Reviews of Vizio VA19L from Amazon.com
very good
This 19" vizio was perfect for our needs. This item is lightweight, easy to install. The picture quality could be a bit sharper but perfect for a spare tv in kitchen or extra room. All in all, we are happy with it.

19" Vizio
The TV works perfectly as described, only problem I found is that it does not support PAL cable format. Other then that it is a great TV for a small room or even to double as a computer monitor.

Small Viewing Angle
I read a lot of positive reviews on this HDTV so I decided to check it out a Target. Its picture looked great, when you were standing directly in front of it, but compared to the rest of the HDTV at Target it has the worst viewing angle. It didn't matter if you moved left, right, above or below, the picture looked very dark from every angle. I have two other LDC HDTVs (Sony & Toshiba) and neither have this problem. It is unfortunate the viewing angle is so small, I will keep looking for the right 19" HDTV.

One of the best bargains out there
I was one of the "holdouts", I didn't believe the FCC was serious this time about the DTV changeover and I waited till the last day and then some. I called them up and ordered a converter box, which was a piece of s***. It broke with 2 weeks of me owning it, trust me they are not worth your time.
So I was without TV for a few more weeks and then I was doing my weekly shopping trip to Target when I found this TV, went home and did a little research then went back and bought it. What a TV for $200. It includes all your legacy connectors like BNC, composite, component, s-video and even includes (2) HDMI connectors. All the different inputs are selectable via the remote and the buttons on the side.
Picture quality is excellent, not at the level of a Sony Bravia or a Samsung, the only other 2 brands of LCD TV's I would even bother with, but close Don't get me wrong, Pioneer and Sharp make excellent TV's, but with these three you get comparable quality for a lot less. This tv has 2 stereo speakers in the back, you definitely want to get external speakers or use some kind of receiver as the sound is somewhat muffled.
Oh and for setup they include a giant, foldout poster but you don't even need that. Unpack it, put the stand on, plug the antenna (if you are using OTA like me) plug it into the wall and follow the prompts for language and channel scanning.
As for the size I could have purchased a 32" tv for about $500, but if you are a single person like me, no kids and rarely have people over then there is no point in getting anything bigger. I have nothing to prove to people, that is what some people out there buy huge tv's for, to show off to other people. This sits right next to my bedstand, the 32" crt monster is outside hooked up to the Xbox 360.

19 in Vizio HDTV
Great quality TV, have another Vizio 37in, love it. decided to try smaller version, no surprise it has the same Great Quality picture and sound. Got it on sale only made it an even easier choice, I am going to get another for the bedroom.

Left Some Things Out!
A very nice little TV with an excellent picture. My gripe is that it doesn't seem like a complete TV. By that I mean that they have PiP on the remote, but it is deactivated on the TV. There is no ZOOM on the TV. Gives you a message saying the feature is not available. Also, there is no screen size adjustment. You get what the broadcaster gives you. Just that has to get some people upset. They raised the price $50 since yesterday. That will surely keep those sitting on the fence to chose another brand. There is no Analog Audio Out (red & white). The 19 inch Toshiba is a much better choice. It has an excellent picture and all the features Visio left out. Also, it's slightly less expensive. BL

Buy the 22" instead!
As of right now (12/21/09), the 22" version (VIZIO VA220E 22-Inch ECO 720p LCD HDTV) is only a dollar more!

Great TV for Small Spaces
I purchased this TV in October 2009 when my laptop's graphics card was dying. I had a USB TV Tuner which worked well, but I decided to buy a TV to relieve some of the stress I was putting on my laptop. I looked around for smaller TVs seeing as I live alone in a dorm room and don't have enough space for a TV much larger than 20". In addition, I wanted something small enough to be able to ship home without paying an absurd amount of money. After browsing the selection at Amazon, I decided to go with this TV since it was small, relatively cheap, and from a brand name I at least recognized.
I was a bit worried before the TV arrived based on some of the complaints about picture and sound other reviewers have cited, but I must say I have had no problems with this television. It is true that when not viewed at a direct angle the image gets a bit darker, but most electronic screens are similar (my laptop does the same thing) and the smaller size likely amplifies this effect. Still, I never got frustrated with this little quirk. Also, I'm OK with the sound quality. I can hear it rather well on lower volumes and it sounds clear to me (I mean, you can't assume a TV was built with incredibly nice speakers - most people buy those separately). It does have a headphone jack, so if you wanted you could just buy a cheap set of laptop speakers for the television if it bothers you that much, but I see no need. It seemed to me that some of the connectors in the back (I'm assuming for S-Video and some others) were a little cheap looking, but since I don't own anything that I can hook up to such connectors I can't really comment on whether or not my instincts are correct. The AV input on the left side of the TV is out of the way and convenient - it's nice to not have to ruin the aesthetic beauty of the TV by having AV cords sticking out of the front as would be the case with some TVs. I have not tried using it as a laptop monitor quite yet nor have I used the HDMI input, so I may update this review once I have done so (I plan on hooking my XBox 360 and laptop up to this TV next fall when I'm in a larger living area).
If you are looking for a small television to fill some niche in your home, I would recommend this TV. It probably isn't the most flashy item on the market, but I was satisfied with the video (digital channels look gorgeous as you may expect) and audio quality of the TV. While I was a bit hesitant on spending $200 on a television that I may have only used for a few months, I believe it was a good investment and plan on using this TV for a few years now.

Horrible Sound Quality
Sound quality is horrible. I first thought there was something covering the speakers. Turning up to an audible volume, causes accompanying sounds to be too loud. When changing channels, one station will be loud and the next channel very quiet. There is a menu setting to adjust for this and it does help, but the volume still flucuates between channels. Lowest volume setting is too loud for bedroom if spouse is trying to sleep. Menu displays are unnecessarily too small to read from my bed which is about 10 feet away. Picture quality is average. I'm only giving it a second star because of the low price.

Great TV
Purchased this as a Christmas gift(later than I should have) and it arrived right before the holiday. This little beauty has a fantastic picture and we've had no problems with the sound/audio, so far.
My only regret is that I didn't order a bigger screen tv. We are very happy with this, plus it was a bargain for the price.

VIZIO - Great for the price
I got this television and use it in my bedroom. It isn't really large enough for anywhere else in the house but perfect for occasionally watching TV in bed.
The picture quality is amazing. The sound quality is good, very clear and I have never had to turn it up past 8.
Set up took less than 10 mins and that included the time to figure out how to get cable from the living room hooked up to the TV in the bedroom.

Amazing little TV
I purchased this little guy as a TV for the guest room to replace the old analog set that I never bothered to buy a digital converter for. Before digital became law, my old analog set which was connected to my antenna in the attic, could only pick up about 10 channels, most of them fuzzy.
I connected this Vizio set to that same antenna and it found 40 digital channels and 8 analog channels in Mexico (I live in Arizona). Although I "No comprende Espanol", that is an overall impressive number of channels received over an attic antenna.
Even the weakest channel is far superior to what the old analog set produced.
The picture quality of the strong channels is excellent and contrary to what other reviews have said about sound quality, I find no problems whatsoever with the sound.
I give it a 4 star on appearance only because the backlight behind the Vizio logo at the bottom of the frame remains lit in amber when the set is turned off. In a dark room at night when you want to sleep, this light appears rather bright. The only means of eliminating it is to cover it with something or unplug the set from the wall.
Final note. If you have an attic or rooftop antenna, don't swallow that baloney from sales reps about needing to buy a specialized digital antenna. As for good quality outdoor TV antennas, what worked for analog will work for digital. If you're using rabbit ears then you may want something better.

sound
I was loking for a 19 in tv with good sound. This tv has good sound (speakers). I previously had a 22 inch Samsung and the sound was terrible. More like a mumble and difficult to understand. The picture doesn't have the deep coloring of a sony but it can be adjusted. Overll, I am satisfied with my purchase.VIZIO VA19LHDTV10T 19-Inch ECO 720p LCD HDTV

From a first-time HDTV owner
Without a doubt, this is one of the best "cheap" HDTVs on the market. The 19" Vizio is perfect for a bedroom, kitchen, dorm room... even a small apartment. The size is very misleading since my previous TV was a 26" or so (older model) and the picture did not look as big was my Vizio. It's very surprising. The picture is also incredibly sharp even on standard definition channels and/or movies. The sound is also very good. Believe it or not, turning the volume up a few notches is sufficient for just about any room. Plenty of connections on the back of the TV for component and HD accessories so you can use just about anything with this TV. Also, this is the big one, the customization of the screen (tint, warmth, etc) is a good thing. Makes the picture perfect for just about any situation. In short, for the price, you cannot beat Vizio. This is my first HDTV and my first Vizio, but after using this TV for a few months, Vizio has earned a loyal customer for my next TV in a few years.

Great picture but sound is tinny
I bought this TV to replace an older CRT in my kitchen area. Overall I'm pleased and it serves my purpose. It was extremely easy to set up. The picture is fantastic! The sound has a lot to be desired... very tiny and inconsistent in volume from channel to channel. I probably wouldn't purchase this brand for a large screen unless the sound issues have been addressed but for a little used area or a child's room, it's a pretty good value.

Great for the bedroom, works fine as PC monitor too
When over-the-air digital TV became the law of the land, I decided to replace the 13" CRT TV in my bedroom with a small widescreen LCD set, and after much research selected this Vizio VA19L. I'm satisfied I couldn't have made a better choice.
My old CRT set with an indoor antenna never delivered anything but two VHF channels, one pretty well and the other just barely watchable. Since it didn't give me any UHF whatever, I was concerned about whether I'd get anything on OTA digital since that uses UHF frequencies. To my pleasant surprise, this Vizio on an indoor antenna gives me 17 digital channels in excellent quality, five of them HD. And standard 480i programming looks great on it too, which is certainly not true of all HDTVs.
It also replaces the 19" widescreen monitor I had on the computer cart beside my bed. The TV's 1366x768 resolution does not exactly match any standard computer resolution, but again to my surprise, the old Radeon 9600 graphics card in my small form factor system provides 1360x768 which fills the screen perfectly while properly maintaining aspect ratio. And I find my Samsung NC10 netbook does also, though I don't really expect to use that much with the Vizio.
Reading other reviews here I see a number of users complaining about the sound quality and angle of view. I think the sound is just fine for a small set, speech is nice and clear, and since I'm hard of hearing I would sure notice it if it weren't. As for angle of view, perhaps those complaining were used to CRTs. Of course all LCD flat panels have noticeable light fall-off when viewed from an extreme angle, and I have seen some laptop monitors where this was very bad, but the Vizio is just fine as far as I'm concerned -- seems about as good to me as the 32" Samsung I have in the living room.
There are even a few things that I like a lot better than the bigger set. On my Samsung there's just one button for changing inputs, which means you have to cycle through several to change from TV to DVD player and/or whatever else you have connected. On this Vizio there's a separate button on the remote for each input, which is much more convenient. Also, the Guide button on the remote brings up brief program info not only about what's playing now, but also what's on the schedule for several hours ahead. This is very handy, though I suppose it may depend on the particular stations in your area -- I don't know if it does this on cable also since I don't use this TV on cable.
I've had this Vizio now for about seven months, no problems of any kind, and it gets an easy five stars from me. I like it so much I'm just about to order the 22" Vizio VA220E which seems identical except for screen size, for my home office.

Excellent. Nees better disclosure on screen ops.
This is an excellent TV, in all respects. One small issue is the difficulty I have had in adjusting the size of the screen when I am not receiving HD transmission. I have struggled with that but I don't know whether that was my ineptness in applying the instructions. In spite of this, I would not hesistate to recommend this TV for any one... just be sure you know how to manage the size of the screen.

Great for a Small Space
I set this T.V. up in my New York City dorm room and bought an HDTV antenna for $11.99 to go with it. Even though my room faces away from Lower Manhattan where most of the broadcast towers are, I can pick up all the major networks and a few other channels in crystal clear HD (about 60 channels total). The picture quality is one of the best I have seen on a T.V. this size. The unit is advertised as displaying in 720p, but programs in 1080i and 1080p also look amazing. As is the case with many units this size the sound is not the greatest, but if you are in a small room about 5 to 7 feet away from the screen, it shouldn't bother all but the most discerning. If it really bothers you, it would be easy enough to hookup external speakers and avoid using the tv's speakers altogether. As for inputs there are two HDMI units on the back, perfect for a blu-ray player, PS3, or if you are lucky enough to have an HDMI-compatible computer. There are also the standard component, composite, S-Video and RGB hookups. All in all, I wouldn't want to set it up in a living room, but this is a great TV at a great price for a dorm room or similar small space.

Great HD TV for my Kitchen
I had previously purchased a Polaroid HD 15" for my kitchen I got for the fact it was a good price and had a DVD. BUT....it died in 2 months. I just bought this HD TV and I think it is really nice much crisper and clearer. THE HD part is very good. I am no expert of course. So far it is great I hooked up a small DVD player and the great thing is both products save energy. I posted my photos.

our new t.v
my son loves his new flat panel vizio.
the one he used to have in his room was an old box type that was huge.
this one takes up much less space.
has ample connection accesses.
i have a vizio in the living room too!
the picture quality and options for changing size, color, contrast etc are amazing.
since he uses his vizio for gaming, and we use the living room vizio for live streaming t.v. and movies, a good quality display is essential.
how else would we be able to play a fine round of wii golf, or watch luke skywalker save the universe?

Second try much better
After receiving this 19 inch Vizio the picture went out after being on for five minutes. I re-packed the TV and shipped it back to Amazon for a replacement. I give high marks to Amazon's customer service who did a great job communicating to me what steps to take in getting a replacement. A replacement TV arrived in two days. The picture is not too bad for a 19 inch HDTV which I use in my home office. Can't beat the price and the customer service Amazon provides.

Great for what it is intended to do!
Don't be fooled by the one and two star reviews. This TV is not meant to be the center of your home entertainment experience. It is a utilitarian approach to today's high-def digital programming, movies, and games. As a gaming television it is near perfect, with the ability to provide the most crisp graphics for the price. Even standard def TV looks great!
If you are looking for a great personal television for the bedroom, kitchen, or for gaming: this TV is for you!

It's so great, I never heard about it again!
I'm an Interior Designer in LA. I bought this for one of my most frugal (Cheap) and discerning (Picky) clients to replace a tube TV in his bathroom that stopped working. After the installation, I only received one call from him because he couldn't figure out how to change the sound settings. I figured it out within five minutes of playing with the remote, and since then the sound quality has matched the picture quality and I haven't heard from him since. That's success in my book.
(March 26, 2010)
Prefer my old 16 inch tube TV
This TV looks like any other but the sound is better on my MacBook than on this TV. It sounds muffled and voices are contorted. The picture is also really dark. I tried to change it but could not get better quality. I used to have a tiny tube TV that everyone laughed at so if I am giving this one a poor rating, it is pretty bad. I will return it and pay a few dollars more for a different one

Nice little tv for the money. The ONLY negetive thng I have to say is that I can not turn the volume down low enough. I like to have the volume really low while my husband is sleeping but it just goes to mute to quick. Otherwise I love it

Very suprised in a good way
After reading some other reviews I thought this HDTV 720p would sound terrible but i was so supprised at the quality of sound the picture is adequate for the size and price is a steal im using it for my room with isn't big and for extra 49.99 I pared it with the eagle tech 2.1 speakers and its a mach made in heaven I recommend highly for bed room guest room kitchen or a small room does the job perfect love the settings and all the imput methods like the 2x HDMI PC dvi and RCA Vizio has come far and i will buy from them again. Last but not least the range of viewing is ok but for a 19 inch what do you expect like i said works good for a small bedroom or similar setting 5 out of 5 stars love the tv!!!

Great little TV
Easy setup, great tuner. Doubles as a PC monitor with easy switch back and forth. Good remote.
The only reason I didn't give it a perfect score is the clutter of labels and light up logo on the front panel.

I really have nothing bad to say about this superb television, with it's low price, extra-fine picture and simplicity of setting up, I would recommend this to anyone on a budget. It's great for a small room and my living room is just that. Two-thumbs up!

Surprise - Whatta piecea work !
Well it arrove with Target store sealing tape on it. The manufacturer's box with the tv was merely dropped tinto a bigger box and shipped out - - - - no padding, no insulation, no air bags , nuthin' !
I thot the worse... wurst... rust... I didn't think it would work.
I set it on its pedestal; plugged in the antenna cable and the power cord; loaded the handheld remote with batt-ries and pushed the "on" button. I was thinking that this would be the same size as the one it replaced but that one musta been a 16" tv as this one is maybe 15% or so bigger.
From there on it told me "hello"; instructed me to let it set itself up and that was about it. This thing was ready for the evening news in maybe fifteen minutes..... It musta scanned the entire solar system for channels 'cause it now brings in BOTH PBS alternatives and channels I didn't even know existed. I am using a Channel-Master Omni mounted up in the attic with a 20 db in-line amp (also purchaced via Amazon).
Sound is adequate but I'm a little hard of hearing anyway.
Vision is remarkable. It don't matter where in the room you are - if you can see the screen reasonably; the pichure is clear..... none of that negative imaging nor funky colors when viewed at an extreme angle - - - - - like the LCD tv in the living room.
The volume and channel buttons are on the rong side of the controller but that's a matter of ergonimics. all the other stuff is pretty much easy to unnnerstand. It even has an AGC for the volumn option. That is to say there's an option that modifies to reasonable average volume those super sound commercial messages that blast between the normally set volume in the rest of the program.
Would I recommend this product? absolutely. Besides having the usual features and connections this one offers a superior viewing angle and a volume AGC.

Great value and picture quality. Sound quality is just okay.
The reviews seem to be right on about this TV. It has a great picture. It is easy to use and a great value. it is a nice looking television. I hooked my up to receive OTA signals and the picture quality is excellent.
However, when reviewers say that the sound volume isn't loud enough, that doesn't seem to be true. It certainly gets loud enough. The main issue with the audio is that if you have the volume at a low setting, the audio quality sounds tinny, lacking any bass. But when you turn it up louder, the bass kind of makes an appearance and it sounds relatively fine. For some reason, at low volume levels, the sound quality just loses balance. I don't know why.
But for $135, it's an outstanding value.

Great TV for limited space
I purchased this TV for use in my RV that I use only on weekends during the summer. The space for the TV was small and my old traditional (non-flat panel) TV took up all of it. I decided to go for a flat panel that would take up less space.
The picture quality is excellent. It was very easy to set up. It has an HDMI connector to add my DVD player to it so I could connect the DVD with one HDMI cable. Pretty simple! The remote is intuitive and easy to use.
The only negative I have for this is that I wish I had purchased something a little larger. This is a 19" and is wider than it is tall. Movies play usually in wide-screen mode so this TV can accomodate that, but the picture is still pretty small. I would not recommend this size if the TV is going to be far from the viewer. But for my use, it works well.
It arrived very quickly and all the parts and manuals were with it.
