Reviews of Toshiba 32AV502R from Amazon.com
Good product!!
I had this Toshiba for a week but had to return it. It was a good tv. The sound was very good when attached with an HDMI cable. Picture was good and what you'd expect for a 720p unit. Personally I like Toshiba tvs.
However, mine had a high pitch (feedback-like) sound coming from the unit. After a week I couldn't take it anymore. I purchased mine at Be$tbuy locally and they were out. Still looking for another tv.
If you get one for a good price, (and it works) I'd say it is as good as other brands.

Best 720P SET......
So I was in the market for a 32 inch set for the bedroom and decided to go with 720P, since 1080P just isn't necessary for this size. I looked at the Panny, LG, and the Sammy 460 series and this Toshiba's had the deepest blacks out of the three. Blacks are more important to me being a Kuro owner. I've had this tv up and running now for 24 hours straight for over a week and no issues thus far. Very sharp picture with HD running through it. SD doesn't look as sharp at all, but that is the case with any LCD. Good blacks(for an lcd). The screen is a matte, so you don't get the reflections. Off viewing axis is better than most LCD'S, but being a plasma owner, it sucks in comparison. The color accuracy leaves something to be desired. Luckily the picture menu allows you to correct this. The sound is decent, although you will get vibration with certain dialog with the bass turned all the way up. Here are the settings I came up with for the best possible picture and fixing the color issue, which is a green push. This was done with a ISF calibration disc in a dark room. If you wish for a brighter picture for sports viewing or because you have the tv in a brighter setting, then bump up the backlight. Note: I will keep updating these settings until I feel they are perfect, so keep checking in from time to time.

710p LCD TVS
Very good second TV for those Guest rooms, or other non primary viewing areas of the house. Very good Pictures in the digital format, with 2 Hdmi inputs for DVDs/Blu-ray.Digital input slot for digital sound and a PC wired connection, so that unit can be used as a PC monitor. I purchased the unit mostly for the Grand kids, to watch their DVDs on and watch cartoons.

It is Ok
Picture is great... But... when I turn up the bass the body of the TV vibrates. It vibrates to the point of I had to turn off the TV speakers and use external sound system. If you're buying this unit online don't throw the box away! You may need to ship it back. I returned my first unit back to the store to exchange my TV and saw four other open box units. I'm just putting two and two together.

Great TV!
I have just purchased this TV from Best Buy as it was on sale a good amount. Brought it home and it rocks! The quality of the picture is just amazing when it is hooked up to my DVD player. I might have to give in and get a blue-ray to see how that looks! Input cables are in a good place so I can keep my TV against the wall. Wish the sound was a little better, but then again I have a surround sound for when I want the premium sound anyways.

Great TV for the price
Got this in today. UPS delivered with a hole in the box and broken styrofoam blocks. TV was fine, though.
No dead pixels and everything is functional. Picture is very good with strong clarity and fine tuning controls that help a lot. Black levels are better than my Philips 1080P set!
Setup is a bit lengthy and the manual is not as detailed considering how big it is. Play with the controls for awhile and you'll get the gist of the tuning controls for picture.
Works with cable or Antenna OTA signals just fine. Strong signal too with a signal meter that is very helpful.
If using OTA HD antenna, set the TV to an "antenna" input and then do a channel search. Once it worked, the OTA signals look better than the HD Uverse.
The sound is VERY clear with a decent bass to it. Compared to a Sony, Samsung, and Panasonic that I listened to at a store this was MUCH better sounding.
Channels change quickly with the remote. Remote is universal with up to two other input controls. Size of text on the screen is good without being too big. Info buttons show the display of the show info very quickly.
Will put on a good power surge protector after reading a post about power supply issues. Most of that tends to be because of power flucuations from the socket or cheap surge protectors. However, sometimes things just die as I've seen on both regular and HDTV's.
Excellent set overall. I compared this to my 42" 1080P set and the difference was minor. Awesome for the bedroom, den, or even a main HDTV.
Will update if I have any problems. Paid with Amex so that I double the warranty for free.

Great buy for the price
My new TV arrived today. It took 5 minutes to unpack and set it up. Another few minutes to adjust it the way I wanted. This is a great product for the price. Picture and sound quality are superb. As my last TV was a Toshiba, I didn't have to reset anything on my cable remote. Don't know where all these other buyers are coming from to give anything less than a 5. If I could have, I'd have given this a ten. This isn't a $1500 TV, but that's not what I bought. I am very happy with my purchase.

Solid Value
Picture is better than expected for this price. The tuner allows HD content on many channels without a digital cable box (due to QAM, I suppose). The speakers are adequate for a relatively small room. We would like it to have an on-screen clock, sound leveling, and an adjustable base (height or even just tilt), but these are minor concerns. The remote is hideous (looks like it was made by Texas Intsruments in 1979) but functional and logical. Overall a great value, especially if you can get free shipping.

Good PQ with Flaws
Got the TV at good price. Update to 12/09 newer firmware(version 1.09?), which I feel it produce better PQ. There is 2 problem with the TV (at lease the one I have):
1. TV surfing. I have cable which has analog and digital channel. This TV went blank sometime when I surfing channels between analog and digital like channel 7 to 7.1 to 7.2. The TV seems can't lock the signal and I have to turn off and on to get out the freeze/problem.
2. Not detect Video signal from my Viewsonic VMP70 media HD player. No idea why. I have been use the Viewsonic VMP70 media player with my Samsung and Dynex(bestbuy brand) with no issue. This toshiba just display no signal when I connect it with HDMI where I use HDMI connection for the media player with my Samsung or Dynex works fine. So, if you have Viewsonic VMP70, this TV is not for you. However, the WD HD media player works fine with HDMI. I didn't try use other connection like component or composite.
Other than above 2 issue, it works fine(play games, watch TV -not surfing) with good picture. Recommand to update the new firmware for better picture.

Standard definition signals look better than the standard def on other 720p TVs
I bought the Toshiba 32AV502R for my elderly grandpa. I wanted to get something for him that was easy to use and took up very little space. This TV is working out perfectly for him. He watches TV solely in standard definition. The picture on this Toshiba is better than either of my Panasonics in SD. The colors appear vibrant even in standard definition. The picture in standard definition isn't perfect of course and will likely not impress people used to HD TV. For my grandpa though, this isn't an issue. He likes the picture and is able to use the remote easily.
We also tested the TV in HD and found the image to be quite pretty. The blacks were dark and the colors were vibrant.
The TV fits nicely on my grandpa's smallish credenza and doesn't overwhelm his small bedroom. The case is shiny and the speakers are unobtrusive.
Overall, my grandpa has had a great experience with this TV and so far it has been the perfect TV for his small space.

32 Inches of Pure Pleasure
Just hooked my new Toshiba up with a Sony upconverting DVD player and find it a match made in heaven. Especially since the Sony seems to work off the Toshiba remote as well. That was an unexpected bonus. At this size, you really don't need a blue-ray player. The colour, clarity and features of the Toshiba compare favourably to my 46-inch Sharp 1080p. I was very impressed after calibrating the smaller 32-incher using Michael D's suggestions (although I tweaked his a wee bit). Nice set! As long as it holds up for years without crapping out, it'll stay a 5-star wonder. If not, you'll hear about it. :-)
BTW If you're wondering why I didn't buy another Sharp (32-inch model) it's because the Toshiba was on sale and looked good. I buy the lowest-priced brand name model when shopping and then cross my fingers and hope the thing holds up. So far, the 32AV502R looks to be getting mostly stellar reviews. And for good reasons, including excellent sound quality. Let's hope longevity figures in there eventually, too.

Great TV for a Great Price
I bought two of these, and they are wonderful TV's.
Pictures are perfect as well as sound. The only thing I don't care for is the closed caption, chore to put on when you want the words.

A great deal for shoppers on a budget
There are some great reviews already in place on this TV, so I'll keep it simple.
I managed to purchase this TV for 340 when I caught it on sale just before black friday (thanks Amazon!). And for the money I don't think I could have asked for more! There are a few presets in place already for picture settings, but I recommend using the one that's supplied in one of the reviews here. Beautiful colors and crisp quality of images in this TV.
Has 2 HDMI slots in the back as well as 2 component and 2 A/V and S-Video. One of my absolute favorite features is that each input can have its own customized picture settings!!! So no worries about having to reset them each time you use them.
The only thing about this TV lacking is the sound options. You really don't have any sort of settings to change or improve and the overall sound is fairly good, but nothing amazing. A sound bar or surround sound system will be needed to give you the true HD viewing experience one would want.
That's why I give this gem of a TV a 4 star rating instead of 5 stars. But if you're not a sound junkie or don't mind buying a sound bar then you've found what I believe to be the best 32" 720p TV under 400 dollars!!!

Amazing deal - very impressive!!
Fantastic picture quality with this unit, very eay to set up and access menu settings. Very glad I shopped around in the 32" class before making a purchase and settling on this unit - analog audio out ports are not found on every unit, but this Toshiba does have them. Perfect size for most small to mid-size room applications, beautiful black finished unit case, great full-function remote (another feature that other units lacked)

Excellent entry level display.
I bought this tv a few months ago to replace an older 26 inch Toshiba CRT HDTV in the bedroom as that set had issues nearly from day one. As such I was not looking to go with Toshiba when I went into replacing my bedroom set, but when I got to the store and did some research it was pretty clear to me that this tv provided a size and picture quality that quite honestly couldn't be matched at the same price point.
For a 720P entry level display it has both incredible black levels and a very nice and uniform picture. It also has a ton of picture adjustments that were easy to understand and use as well. Was able to dial in a very nice calibrated picture very easily. On top of the excellent picture and feature to price ratio it is also a very nice looking and under stated unit in its own right.
In fact the only thing I can't speak highly of is the sound quality but it still gets the job done as a bedroom set. I sure wouldn't want to have it in my living room without a surround sound set up but honestly you can say that about pretty much every TV can't you?
Long story short this tv is a steal of a deal at a sub $400 price and really just about the ideal bedroom TV in my opinion.

humming noise....
Just got the TV.
Picture and sound are nice. Its in a bedroom sized family room. There is a slight hum from the TV (I double checked with everything else off). At low volumes its more noticible. Its a common problem just do a search on humming for the model. If you turn backlight all the way down it gets better. Also, I did notice while watching an action movie (Swordfish) the sound did not always keep up. Its a very slight gap in sound almost like when they just delete a bad word out and dont replace it with anything else (not the case on this movie). It happened a couple of times and I dont have a high definition cable box yet. It may not happen if i use a HDMI cable?
Its a decent TV for the money but the hum is an issue.

My Review (what else would it be called?)
Packaged well, shipped fast. I plugged the tv in the wall. I put the coax in the tv. The Resolution is average on coax. The picture seems dark at times, like on darker movies. Sports look great. (to bad I don't waste my time on that) Standard programing looks great too. The DVD player I have in the bedroom is only Composite out and looks really good for NON-HDMI output. Haven't connected any HDMI devices as of yet. Other than that, Nice tv. Perfect for the bedroom or maybe a smaller gameroom.

Toshiba 32AV502R 32 inch 720p LCD HDTV
This is our first experience with an HDTV. So far, so good.
THe picture is good quality. We were surprised to find that even movies made decades ago, look much better on HDTV.
There were a lot of menus and setups involved when we first got it. That was a little daunting.
Overall, we're very happy with the television.

TV is ok but image quality not great - traces
I've had this tv for about a month now. Overall, it's an ok tv.
My biggest issue with the image quality. I've fiddled with the preferences a bit but still can't fix the problem. The overall colors are alright, black levels are good. BUT - there is a noticeable and irritating "trace" effect with the color red. Especially if a person has really red lips, as their head moves, there's a trace of red that follows. Same affect with quick body movement. I have over the air tv (which I understand, is part of the problem) - so even programs that are broadcast in HD still have traces. And I still have this problem with DVDs and video games, even when I use higher end connections (like the hdmi).
Is there a certain setting I should have? Or this a problem with the tv? If it is, I am very disappointed in the quality of this tv.

Fantastic.
This is my first HDTV that I have bought, simply put, gorgeous!! The picture on this tv is super crisp. The blacks are incredible, my only complaint which is minor is the sound, the sound is great but there is a bit of vibration when it's set too loud. I have noticed no ghosting at all! which is surprising for a 60hz LCD. Perfect for any type of gaming, Forza 3, MW2, Mass effect 2.
All in all for the price, this baby is great!

Very Happy
Pros:
-Great picture
-Great viewing angle (practically 180)
-True Wide screen (no more stupid bars!)
-Clear QAM channels work great (nix your set-top box!)
-Lots of input options
-Toshiba Customer service reputation
-Good documentation
-Light weight (30 pounds)
-Decent sound (you will still want good speakers though)
-Very Nice looking
-Good for Internet TV & HTPC use
-Remote glows in the dark
-Allows 1920x1080 computer resolution if you want with HDMI cable
-Screen is virtually glare-free
-Nice Picture setting presets & customizable too.
-Nice buttons on remote for PC use ("PIC Size" button is key for 16:9!)
-Can hook multiple PC's to it and flip monitor inputs instantly (no kvm switch needed! 5 PC's could be connected.)
-Same computer can be input multiple times for different desktops (haven't tried this yet though.)
Cons:
-Doesn't automatically turn off with PC (keep remote near by)
-No difference in 720p & 1080p (see below)
-PC Text looks better in 1360x768 (768p) than in 1920x1080 (1080p)
-Too big for some low quality Internet Video
-Shows finger prints
-Connecting PC with S-video was almost unusable. Looks terrible.
-Half inch border all the way around in default 1080p or 765p mode. Use 768p with a PC if you can.
-Remote buttons are a little stiff and small. Hard to navigate if you have long nails.
-Only 1 custom preset available for picture settings.
-No DVI connection
Generally I think this is a fantastic TV and monitor. I use it as my primary HTPC monitor with Windows 7 media center and a simple indoor TV antennae. I really enjoyed recording the Olympics in HD and playing back stop-motion ice skating. My roommate has the same TV and is using Comcast clear QAM with no set-top box and no computer. He gets all the digital tv channels.
I surf the Internet and watch a lot of Internet TV and it works great for this too. (Hint: turn down the backlight level for better text reading with less eye strain. Use the "Sports" mode for Internet TV which tends to be very dark.)
All the various inputs allow many advantages over a regular monitor (see pros above.) I can read text clearly from up to 15 feet away. (Great for lounging in bed or on the couch.) The only disadvantage of using the HDTV this way is the limited variety of resolutions.
I saw no difference in quality with HDMI or VGA cable as some other people said. I am not sure what the story is with the S-video PC input. It looked really terrible when I hooked up my laptop. However it looks great with a VGA cable. I will report back if other devices such as DVD players have this problem.
Watching Internet video is good but sometimes not great on a 32 inch. You really wouldn't want a screen any bigger than this because Websites save space by converting the videos to very low quality. I have opened some Youtube videos that I actually could not see. My 14" laptop handled them better.
As you can see from the list above my Cons are no biggy: I find I need to switch the picture modes a lot when going from Recorded TV to text reading to Internet TV, so I wish there were more customized presets allowed in order to tweak them.
The only big thing I regret is I could have saved $100 by getting a 720p Samsung. Some reviews said I might need 1080p if I were using this TV as a monitor. It actually looks worse in 1920x1080 and the the text is harder to read (even zoomed.) In TV mode you will not see a difference with 1080p unless you use a Blue Ray DVD player and sit 2 or 3 feet away on a 32" screen. However I am still very happy with this and feel I got a top of the line product for a steal.
I hope I've provided some good information that is hard to find for people looking for large monitors.
*Note: to get Clear QAM channels in Windows Media Center without a cable card or set-top box you need a TV card known to receive them. For example: Avertv MTVHDDUWB HD Duet (White Box) & Here: Hauppauge 1229 WinTV-HVR-2250 White Box for System Builders Dual Hybrid PCI-E TV Tuner Board

Great value for the price!
I purchased this for secondary television in a "sitting room/retreat" we couldn't be happier, it was exactly the right choice. I made the decision based on a higher end Toshiba model that we have as our main Television, we are happy with that one so this was an easy choice. It has good picture quality, sound is good, it is very stylish, much more so than other lower priced televisions that I considered. We have used this as a monitor for a dvd player and also connected it to a laptop. I highly recommend, this especially for a secondary television, I would purchase another one with no hesitation.

great hd, great value
hums a bit. but not all the time. if u turn the volume up a bit u cant hear it. 720p works well with bluray and hd cable. 2hdmi ports may be one too few. overall a fun 1st hd set. love the widescreen...and host of component composite ports. bluray rocks on this set. wii looks alright in 480p. football, baseball big change from my old sdtv toshiba. hd is more fun and the prices have come down in the last couple of years. buy b4 super bowl time 4 best price.

Excellent picture quality
I bought this item as clearance from CompUSA. I've had it for several months and it works great. Though the refresh is 60hz (low end, newer TV's are 240hz), this model does not have the 'jaggies' when watching motion sceens - such as sports. A friend of mine bought a Panasonic with a 60hz refresh and the jaggies are terrible! Very noticable when trying to watch the NBA finals.
This Toshiba is our main TV, turned on just about every day. So far, it's worked great. It's connected to an HD cable box (Comcast). From what I've understood, broadcast HD is only 720p, but regardless the picture is GREAT!
I'll be looking for another Toshiba in the future.
