Reviews of Sharp LC40E77U from Amazon.com
Good Buy!
Great "current day" price for a great tv! Not very tech savy but from what I've seen so far it is awesome! I probably wouldn't use a 40" tv as a computer monitor, but hey... to each their own. No dead spots on the tv, blur from fast motion games not an issue, and big difference from my samsung 52" plasma 720p as far as quality! Watched the Dark Knight movie on blu-ray and some of the Special FX looked kinda fake... Step it movie guys the tv's are winning! Very happy so far with tv and will update as I get more time with the tv.

Good for air antenna
We had the Sharp Aquos LC42D85U and it is a beautiful set. One warning however: after working with Sharp for 2 months to get the D85U running right we found that the advanced signal processing electronics can easily result in lip synch problems if you are getting your signal from an over the air antenna. Sharp wasn't able to fix this problem with software updates but did replace this set with a new LC40E77UN that shows no lip synch problems. If you have cable the D85U will make you happy, otherwise look at the E77UN; it is the set for you.

I really like this product
Great picture, sound and at a great price! I have this for a few months now and I am very satisfied! Delivery was fast and there were not problems at all!

NICE!
Not a techie person, but found this TV so easy to set up. Beautiful picture and the sound quality is OK. Hooked up to surround sound and it's great. Love the swivel stand. The anti-glare screen works well. Way too many nice features to mention. The price is right and the quality is there.

Great TV, Fantastic Deal!
I was surprised in my quest to upgrade my HDTV to a larger flat panel, that I would also be able to afford 120hz! I had narrowed my search down to the 60hz version of this TV until I discovered this great deal for the new 120hz version. So off the bat, the deal is fantastic!
As for the TV itself, I am very impressed.
Unpacking (J&R goes the extra mile and adds extra packing to the box before shipping) and setup were easy and took about ten minutes by myself.
The picture quality is amazing. I have upgraded to this TV from a Philips 26" 1080i Tube HDTV, so I am not new to HDTV, but I was surprised how much better this picture was. It is crystal clear, bright, sharp (no pun intended) and stunning. Besides the usual suspects like the moving pictures, the text on this - whether from the TV setup menus or from my Satellite receiver's menus and guides, etc. - is super sharp and exceptionally readable. The blacks are black, the whites are white and the colors are vibrant and perfectly saturated; from things I had read, I thought I was going to need to have a new LCD TV calibrated, but I don't see the need (I ran color bars to it and everything looked perfect!).
One thing that I was little disappointed with was the automatic picture control. Not that it didn't work as advertised, but in some lighting situations, I found that it muddied the picture a little - it wasn't always noticeable, but in certain scenes it became apparent. Not a problem though as I turned it off and tweaked the Backlight and Brightness to exactly where I wanted it and all is good.
This TV comes with plenty of inputs - 4 HDMIs!
The setup menus are well organized and easy to use and intuitive; I have never had to refer to the manual to figure out how to do something. The Input selection is straight forward; someone one here complained that you had to scroll through the list instead of just hit the button until you get to the input you want - not exactly true. First, if you tap the input button it scrolls through the on-screen list, but works like my previous TV did; but, the setup menu gives you the added bonus of turning off the inputs in the list that you aren't using so you don't have to scroll through them.
As for the tuner, I can't comment as I use satellite and couldn't get an antenna signal here without a 1000 foot pole to put it on. But, I don't think that tuners are a major concerns in TVs for manufacturers anymore as more and more people are getting satellite or have cable or are moving to things like Apple TV.
Overall, I can fully recommend this TV and even Sharp's customer service as I had to call them with one question.
(A note on initial setup - even if you aren't hooking this up to an antenna or some other source that hooks into the antenna F Connector, don't skip the channel search during the initial setup screens as this setup of tasks will come up every time you turn in the TV until you do. No need to connect a source, just pick Analog and let it do its thing unsuccessfully.)
[A second note after using this TV for a few weeks: I discovered an interesting anomaly: When I first turn the TV on, my Dish VIP622 Satellite Receiver Remote barely works for the first minute or so and then slowly begins to respond over the next couple of minutes; then a few minutes later, the receiver acts like the INFO button is being pressed repetitively (even with the remote batteries out) and this lasts for a few minutes and goes away. Then everything is normal. If I change the remote frequency, the problem disappears completely (unfortunately, that screws up my Slingbox). This problem started with getting this new TV and I have experimented and narrowed this problem down to the warm up period of the TV - as it warms up, it is affecting (and emulating) whatever frequency the remote uses. In the end, this may only be a problem for VIP622 owners and then only if you also use a Slingbox (because it doesn't appear that you can change which frequency it uses).]

OK, but problems mounting it.
Picture: The wife likes it. 'nuff said.
Setup: The channel scan is really sloooow. No big deal, but be prepared to go have lunch while the scan works.
Mounting: Oops! Guess I didn't do my homework. This TV was intended for the bedroom, on a wall mount, in a corner so it would have to be both tilted and swiveled. No can do. The wall mount points on the back of the TV are spread WAY out, and will NOT accept a "universal" mount. The only wall mount it will accept is their own Sharp mount, and it only tilts, and does not swivel. So I had to return the mount I ordered at the same time, and install a shelf on the wall that I could set the TV on (it does have a good swivel base included). Also note that this TV will probably not fit onto those TV stands that have an integrated mount on a pillar. Before you purchase such a stand be sure to have the TV at home first, take good measurements, and shop for a stand with tape measure in hand. Otherwise you'll get the furniture home, and find out it's useless.
Just so ya know.

Calibration Settings + Tips/Tricks
I actually own the sister version of this product (the Sharp LC-52E77U), but the information in this review is equally applicable to this TV since they use the same, albeit smaller, panel.
Since I have owned this TV for a few months now, I thought it would be helpful to share a few tips and tricks I have learned:
PROBLEM: INCOMPATIBLE AUDIO SIGNAL
All my A/V devices (360, PS3, Wii, Samsung DTB-H260F) were connected to my Onkyo TX-SR607 receiver with HDMI, which was set to output to my Sharp Aquos LC-52E77U. And, although the receiver was set to "Audio TV Out" off (and even with it on), the TV kept popping up this error:
"Incompatible audio signal has been received, please check the output signal."
It only pops up for a few seconds, and only when I would switch devices or resolution or whatever. Still, pretty annoying. Connecting the devices directly to the TV via HDMI caused the same error - the only time it didn't happen is when there was 2ch 44.1/48Khz PCM involved.
Unfortunately, unlike every other TV I have ever owned, the Sharp doesn't have a menu option to disable audio. Muting didn't help, either.
The solution? Set the audio volume to 0. No more error!
PROBLEM: NO DEVICE DETECTED (DVI -> HDMI)
When I first got this TV, I plugged in my Mac Mini, using a DVI -> HDMI cable. After using it for a bit, the TV would stop recognizing that the Mac Mini was connected. It turns out that, whenever the Mac Mini would be rebooted or would go to sleep, the Sharp would refuse to recognize that it was connected anymore.
The solution? Physically unplugging and plugging in the TV (not just pressing the power button), and disabling sleep on the Mac. I still have to do this unplugging dance occasionally - like for system updates - but not as often as when sleep was enabled. I guess that's the price you pay for a beautiful 1080p HDMI signal, as opposed to a letterboxed 1600x1200 VGA signal - the max this TV supports.
CALIBRATION SETTINGS
This TV has some definite problems with blues in areas of high contrast. Here are the best settings I have found on the internet, in order of their appearance in the menus:
OPC: Off
Backlight: +6 (you can adjust up or down a smidge if need be)
Contrast: +36
Brightness: -12
Color: +1
Tint: +1
Sharpness: -1
CMS Hue/Saturation/Value: 0
Color Temp.: Low (leave at Mid for color managed devices, like Macs)
R Gain: +11
G Gain: 0
B Gain: -10
Fine Motion Enhanced: Off (leave on for sports if you prefer)
Active Contrast: Off
Gamma Adjustment: 0
Film Mode: Off (I used Advanced(Low) for sports)
Digital Noise Reduction: Off
Monochrome: Off
Range of OPC: +16 Max, -16 Min (it is off, anyways)

Cool TV
This is very nice TV since I bough it 2 months ago we watch it every day. The kids love it. My 1.5 year old spends hour in front of the TV sometimes he gets dangerously close though and touches the screen so we had to also purchase a TV Screen Protector TV-ProtectorTM Special Design TV Screen Protector that fits 40 inch LCD, LED and Plasma TVs
Picture quality is great. So much better than our old TV. Sound is very reach and we love to play music DVDs in the evenings.
It took me no more than 20 minutes to install. Now I have it mounted on the wall after purchasing a bracket from Walmart.
Highly recommend this TV. Also the tuner works great we use it with ordinary antenna and get all major channels in HD - incredible.

Love my TV
I don't have a single complaint about this TV. It was super easy to setup and doesn't weigh very much. The picture and sound are great. I have even used it as my computer monitor by hooking up my laptop with an hdmi cable. Excellent picture quality.

Great TV at a good Price
I had shopped the electronic stores here locally and was told to stick with the 3 S's on more than one occasion (Sony, Sharp, and Samsung). For the price you can not get a better value than this Sharp 1080p 120HZ TV. One of my apprehensions regarding this TV is the brown that is at the bottom of the TV, as you can not tell how brown it is. After getting the TV wall mounted it really blends into the wall and is not noticeable. After getting the TV set-up with my system it truly is a great TV for the price. This is my second Sharp TV that I own and I do enjoy both of them very much.
