Reviews of Samsung LN55C650 from Amazon.com

Samsung LN55C650, a very good LCD HDTV

It just arrived yesterday afternoon. The first thing I would like to comment is the design. It's simple but elegant. Compare to last year model LN55B650, it has a much better design in my opinion. The metal back cover feels more sturdy. The TV stand is not assembled as it was in last year models. It may take more time and effort for people who want to put the TV on a media console but it really help for who want to hang it on a wall.

I owned a Sharp 37" and Sony 52" HDTV and I'd say this TV has the best picture I have seen in LCD HDTV line. Picture is very sharp, bright and rich color. I read a review mentioned about narrow view angle and rainbow effect. But I haven't seen any rainbow effect yet. I have tried to see the TV from different angles but haven't found any problem. 120 Hz refresh rate wasn't improved. I just turn it off.

Samsung applications feature is great. I have tried YouTube, Picasa, Netflix. It took time to create main account and sign in all other application's accounts due to using remote control for typing. But it worked very well. It required an firmware upgrade to play Netflix. One thing I was noticed while streaming movie via Netflix that it was dropped several times. I'm using Sony blue-ray player BDP-N460 to watch online movies in Netflix and haven't had any problems. My internet connection is AT&T DSL Pro, 3 MB/512 KB and both TV and blue-ray player are connected to the same router (D-Link DIR-655). I tried to play the same movie in the blue-ray player and have no problem. I'm not sure what is going on but I'll update when I figure it out.

DNLA feature worked great. I just plugged in a network cable and it automatically connected to my laptops. Content shared folders are organized in a better way and more detail compare to last year models. I haven't tried sound quality since I'm using a home theater system. The remote control feels more sensitive than previous models.

I had purchased Samsung LN55B650 and returned it due to firmware update problem with streaming movies. For some reasons, this model is cheaper than last year model LN55B650. I don't get it. It is way better than LN55B650 in many aspects. I was hesitate to purchase this TV since I had bad experience with Samsung TV LN55B650 and a blue-ray player BD-P1590 (completely fail within a week of use). But I'm very pleased with this model.

In addition, I'd like to mention about a great experience with Amazon customer service. It was very trustful and responsive. I'm very confident in shopping at Amazon. Only one thing bothered me is CEVA shipping service. I have read many reviews complain about this company and I wonder why Amazon is still using them. If you ever see an over thousand dollars, sensitive electronic item was beaten up, you will feel how painful I was. If I don't call them a day prior to delivery schedule, I'll need to wait for another day. They are always behind schedule. It's very costly to wait during working hours.

I'll update my review if I find something else.

Update:

Netflix has worked fine in this TV. I guest the issue was internet traffic. I've tried to play Ninja Assassin via VUDU. It was able to play HD mode (1080p) but not HDX (?)due to low internet speed. I don't know the difference but picture and sound in HD mode is just the same as blue-ray disk. It was included subtitle feature.

Satisfied Customer

I have had the TV now for a full weekend of March Madness, and I have generated a few thoughts so far.

First, the picture is phenomenal. It really stands up against almost anything out there at the moment. I chose the LCD tech over LED largely over price, I just couldn't justify the extra 1000 for what I felt was a marginal increases in performance. The options and interface are intuitive, and tweeking the picture and sound settings was easy. After I "tuned" the picture I watched some basketball and was very impressed by the 120hz engine and software. The picture is smooth, rich, and a delight to watch.

Second, the connectivity is a fun addition. I have an instant uplink to netflix, blockbuster on demand, amazon on demand, and Vudu. I gave Vudu a try last night with a free trail rental of "Zombieland". I have a 12mb/s broadband connection, and it was enough to enjoy full HD without any hiccups. Really a cool feature.

Third, I am less than impressed with the DNLA connectivity of Samsung. I have been struggling to set up a media server that is compatible with my new TV. I was looking forward to having a new way to show all of the internet content I have come to love, without the computer. However, I am just getting started with it, so I may be making a mistake. I guess the interface is a generation behind where it integrates without a problem. I thought about taking a star off for this, but I chose not to because the functionality of the TV as a TV is really what this review should be about.

Lastly, the delivery was prompt, easy, and professional. I was concerned with having a high dollar item shipped, but after this experience I don't think I'll have it any other way. The freight company (Pilot) called to schedule a drop off on a given day in a three hour window. I got a call one half hour before they would arrive to prepare. The delivery personnel were professional, respectful, thorough, and all together great. I preferred this over buying at a retail store because I had the opportunity to have Pilot unpack the TV, place it where I chose, turn it on and inspect it, then accept shipment. If there had been a problem I could have refused shipment and another TV would have come a few days later. If I had bought this SAME TV at a BIG RETAIL STORE for SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS more, I would have had to bring home a box and hope I didn't have to repack and take it back. All together a great experience.

Note: I had to unplug and replug my Comcast box to get a picture on the TV when I first connected. Not sure why but it has been working great since.

If something changes in the future I will update this review, but as it stands today, 5 Stars.

Update: This doesn't have to do with the TV -
I noticed some good products getting a low star rating as a result of uneducated people giving products they don't own bad reviews because "Amazon won't show the price". Get educated people, it is called Minimum Advertised Pricing (MAP) and it is beyond the control of Amazon. A manufacturer (Samsung) can place restrictions on the retailer (Amazon) dictating that they cannot advertise a product below a certain price, but they legally cannot stop the retailer from selling below that MAP price. So if Amazon wants to pass along a fantastic price on an item that is below MAP, they legally cannot show the price until the buyer makes some action that is not driven by a low advertised price (aka put it in your cart). Lil learning goes a long way.

Stunning TV and good sound

About me: First HDTV, but I am an Electrical/Software Engineer so I have a high level of technical ability, with a low expectations. I have been micro analysing which TV to buy for far to long. I attended CES in 2009 and 2010, and have seen all of the new TV that are coming out (probably why I kept waiting so long). This is the perception from which this review was written.

I received this TV yesterday and watched it for most of the evening. Very good picture! I was considering the LG55lh40 but after viewing the Samsung LN55B650 side by side with the LG at Best Buy my wife and I realized there was little competition. We had the tech at best buy let us mess with the settings for around half an hour (starting with the auto-calibration from LG) but just couldn't get it to look right compared with the Samsung. I was rather upset, as I have read numerous great reviews about the LG and it was a considerably cheaper price. Logging into Amazon I noticed the LN55C650 was on sale for $1620 (even cheaper than last years B series) but had no reviews, so I was a little nervous to order it. Hindsight is 20/20 and I definitely made the right choice. The picture is very clear and has that crisp look that Samsung is famous for.

My surround sound system will not be delivered until today, so I was stuck using the built in speakers last night. I was very impressed with the sound this thing could pump out. I varied the sound between 25 and 50 (out of 100) and it was more than loud enough and filled the room nicely. This is by no means comparable to a nice sound system, but compared to any other TV I have heard, it is definitely up there in sound capabilities.

Looks wise, I think this is much better looking than last years B650. I didn't care for the red touch of color that surrounded the whole TV. This model only seems to have the red at the bottom center, and it adds a really nice accent without being overpowering like I felt last years were. This is just a personal opinion.

Cons:
The 120HZ feature, which was heavily complained about in the LN55B650 still has problems. The first thing I did when I got the TV was watch The Dark Knight BD (1080P) on my PS3 using a V1.3 Cat2 HDMI cable. I thought something was wrong with the TV as it was doing very strange things with background motion, but after turning the 120HZ feature off the picture cleaned up perfectly and I no longer notice any problems while watching it. I tried all of the different 120HZ modes, and they all had the same problem. That said, I turned it back on while watching HDTV (720p obviously) and it seems very clean with the 120HZ.

It is 2010 and they still can't put a wireless radio built into the television? I find this to be ridiculous that you have to purchase a separate module in order to get wireless. My router is very far away from my TV and it will be expensive to have network cables added.

I will update this if I notice any other issues.

Great pic - some issues

The TV has an unbelievable picture. The issue is that it is turning off during viewing, and it has an issue going back and forth on tint while viewing. I have called Samsung and they are sending someone out to check it. We will see. Lastly, on some shows it skips a frame every 10 seconds or so - really weird. Like skipping forward. It happens on only a few shows. Weird.
I will let you know how it ends up.
If you have some recommendations to fix it - let me know.

View Angle lacks snap, not as bright/colorful as 46"

I have the Samsung LNT4665 46" LCD and I have been very pleased with the output. Thus I decided to stick with Samsung on their 55" model and I am not that happy with it.
It seems to have a more narrow angle of display. If you are too offside, the picture turns dull * has touches of grey in the picture. If you are facing dead on, the picture is ok, not as snappy and colorful as the 46". Both were set at similar output modes. (Dynamic setting, contrast & brightness were the same). on the 55" I also turned the HDMI to Low.

No need for LED or 3D

I have had this tv for about a week now and I can say this is as good as 2d tv can get. I researched between this , 3d led, or led tv. This is the best way to go since 3d technology is still new with barely any content. My cousin has the samsung led tv (un55b6000) which doesn't show any noticeable picture improvement over this tv.
The sound is fairly standard but the picture quality is mind blowing, black level and clarity blows my old tv out of the water (lnt5271f).
FYI this compared to the 240hz samsung LCD (ln52b750) this has no noticeable difference except being bigger!
So save money don't get the led or 3d since picture quality won't make any viewable difference.
Settings require adjustment so here are mine ( I like a lot of POP and play ps3 and blurays)

Dynamic
Sharpness 20 (very important because when I got the tv first my games looked jaggy and not smooth because this was on 55 which is HORRIBLE)
Automotion smooth
Hdmi black level low

Everything else can be left on the default setting.

Once you see uncharted 2, god of war 3, and metal gear solid 4 with these settings you won't think twice about buying another tv again!

FYI other reviews problems with the tv are because their settings are not adjusted. Also note I'm a big automation plus fan and this one has the best implementation of it yet.
(April 18, 2010)

Great picture out of the box

This tv is all that I expected and more. The picture quality is superb out of the box. I normally make small tweaks from the factory defaults, but this tv did not need a single adjustment. The HD is crisp and the colors are true to life. The first sporting event I watched was the NCAA basketball final and I felt like I was in the arena.

An added bonus is the internet connectivity. We stream Pandora all day long - awesome. I am very pleased with this television and I'm so glad that I didn't drop the extra cash for the LED model.
(April 20, 2010)

Great experience so far

I ordered the television on Sunday 4/10, and it arrived at the scheduled time on Friday, 4/16. The delivery was trouble-free, and the delivery team had the unit setup and connected within minutes. The picture is absolutely phenomenal, and is even better in our home than the models we saw in stores. We compared the Samsung's side-by-side with various models in store, and the brightness and clarity of the Samsung picture always seemed the best. I am connected to Verizon FIOS using their HDMI cable. No problems of any kind. I have not explored any of the specialty functions yet, but the TV itself is great.

We are impressed with the overall process, and plan to do business with Amazon again in the future.
(April 20, 2010)

Very happy.

The picture on this thing is stunning. I even bought a blu-ray player to test it out and am glad I did.

So, why another Samsung when a previous one broke after just a few years? It's the zoom. It zooms nicely to fill the screen when a non-HD channel is showing something in wide screen format. You see, the DVR puts out a picture (4:3 aspect ratio). Great for an old style TV with a 4:3 screen. Most newer screens are wide screen and display that 4:3 picture by centering it. You can either widen the picture to fill the left and right edges of the screen or leave those edges black and waste 25% of the screen area. When a show/movie is wide screen, the DVR centers it top-to-bottom in the 4:3 picture which, on a 4:3 screen wastes 25% of the screen area. Combine the two 25% losses and I was losing 44% of the screen area unless I zoomed the picture.

So, either I accepted a tiny little picture in the middle of the screen or zoomed in. Well, I can't figure out how to get my Visio to zoom correctly. Every zoom option seems to flatten things out in one way or another. In other words, it makes everyone look like Eskimos. Except Eskimos who look like pancakes. My old Samsung did it right, my new one does too. It is so nice to use the whole screen instead of just that little center portion.

Now to some other cool stuff.

The new Samsung properly detects screen formats coming into the HDMI inputs. That's expected. I have the DVR connected through coax though. (DVR has busted HDMI) I only set the aspect ratio and zoom for the DVR input -once- and the TV remembers the setting. It automatically switches to the zoom I want for the selected input. I like.

There's a bunch of other stuff for getting movies and stuff off the net. Haven't tried it out yet. Don't know when I will.

I'm just really happy with this TV.
(April 22, 2010)

I'm Happy With It

I'm not a videophile. That said, the picture looks great. It's in a room with lots of sun and bright surfaces and the glare is minimal as in I don't even notice it.

I love the internet connectivity. Streaming of music from Pandora, Netflix, etc. is really nice to have.

Amazing set - price $1399 local in LA

Ok - I walked into a Fry's in LA on Thurs AM and was going to look at 55" and larger LCD TV's - I'd made the mistake a month earlier not buying the LG 55LH40 when they had a price on it of $1279, and noticed a sign in the store that said Network ready blu-ray DVD player for FREE with the purchase of select Samsung TV's. I looked at the LN55C650, and the LG right next to each other - then at Sony and the pic of this TV was better than the already sharp and crisp LH40 and LH90 [which was network ready as well].

I noticed that the 2010 LN55C650 was on sale for $1399. The B650 [the 2009 version] was selling for $1699 and the LG LH90 was being marketed at $1899. I took a moment and played with the remotes and noticed that the C650 was in standard mode and all the others were in Dynamic. Right there the set was already brighter, sharper and clearer than its competitors and $500 cheaper. I used my blackberry to go to Amazon and Bestbuy and Amazon was selling the TV for $1648 and Best Buy was at $1899. So, here was a deal offering me a network ready [meaning they send me a free Samsung USB LAN card when I register at a custom Samsung link] plus give me a blu-ray DVD player for $1399.

How can anyone go wrong? I brought this unit home. It replaced a Mitsubishi WD-52527 52" DLP set. The difference in sharpness was literally astonishing. We were using a DVI cable but the Mitsu was only a 720p set. The difference between 1080 and 720 is akin to almost the difference between 480p and 720p.

We have FIOS from Verizon and using a full 1080p image the definition and detail is amazing. When watching TV shows that are lighted for standard def but filmed in HD the image is so detailed it looks fake. You can see so much it is as if you are standing right there watching the show being made - but its sharper because you do not have the focus limitations of your eyes. We watched Mercy on NBC the first night - it appeared that you were standing right there watching the acting which was unnerving because you could tell they were acting.

American Idol was like being right there on stage. It was so sharp it looked fake.

Watching baseball games - omg - its like you are right there watching the pitcher from the batters box.

Sure, alot has to do with a clean signal being delivered over a fiber optic line, but remember that TV shows are mostly filmed in 720 - not 1080.

Movies have that same strange otherworldly appearance of actually being there in the room with the actors.

The ONLY modification which I made to the default settings was placing the anti-blur/judder to 'smooth,' and setting the video and audio to Movie. Everything is stock and the set is in Standard mode, not dynamic. Others can give you more detail on the specifics and technical review, but I have high standards and this set met mine - and exceeded them. Thats hard to do.

The blacks are crisp - meaning Samsung must have updated some settings from the B650 model - this set rocks. If you can get a good deal on one - buy it. But for $1475 out the door for the set, California's stupid electronics recycling fee and the usurious 9.75% tax, if you get a price even close to it - BUY IT.

Totally pleased

After researching larger televisions, this was my choice. I am totally pleased. I am not as yet sure that 3D is sure to take off, so I stuck with up to date LCD. But I did want internet connectivity. Internet does work great. Picture, sound, ease of use are all as I had hoped. For the price, I could not be happier.
(April 25, 2010)

Do not buy any other TV

I looked for about six months. I waited for the 3D TV to come out knowing that there would be a sweet spot, where a product would just make it worth buying without burning a hole in your wallet. This TV is the best one for the value. It is imposing, gorgeous, and absolutely awesome!

I compared this TV to the Sony 55 Inch, and the new Samsung LED 55 3D. What I saw was that the Samsung LED and the LCD were exactly the same...except the price tag. The SONY TV picture was great...but the TV itself looked terrible. This TV is simple yet elegant.

If you are planning to spend between $1200 to $1700, this is the TV for you. For the money you get a product that has great value, appealing when even when it is off, and absolutely mindblowing when it is on.

This TV has taken our movie experience to another level. Coupled with a great sound system, you could feel like you are in the movie. The picture clarity will remind you of a sunny spring morning. You will finally experience the movie environement in a whole different way. You will see the breeze flowing through the leaves, the charred skin of the bbq chicken, or even the pimples on their faces. It is so clear that you will be blinking 2x just to make sure you are not seeing things.

buy it..

Pleasntly surprised

Bought this television sight unseen based solely on reputation. None of the local retailers had this model in stock as of yet being is is new. I looked at older Samsung models to try to get some idea of what to expect from this one. For the money I paid compared to even the older ones I feel I got a super deal. The overall quality including the picture are truly amazing. At this price point you can absolutly not go wrong

Great Tv. BAD Shipping.

Just recieved my tv today. Monday 5/3/10. And Tv is great. Only problem was it was late 4 days. I payed an extra $50 to get it here within the week and amazon really let me down on this one. I'll probably most likely never order another big product from them again, because if your not within the state or close to where they ship out the products.. its a waste of money. Dont do it. I've ordered things from amazon before but obviously never a large tv. But Hopefully they'll give me a refund for this...Anyways, this tv is quite nice. To keep it simple, I like it. Sleek design, alot better looking than last years and great sound. So, bottom line, the samsung lln55C650 is a great lcd. So I would of given this tv 5 stars but again, Amazon really let me down, but I definetely would recommend this tv for someone that's looking for a great deal and not going to waste their money on those 3D gimmick tvs.

Great Picture, Features could use some work

I bought this television because it was time to replace the bulb in my JVC rear projection. The Samsung LN55C650 fit my price and size requirements, I did look at a couple of Vizo or whatever from Wal-Mart because they are by far some of the cheapest LCD TV's I have seen but what can I say, you get what you pay for.

I have had the LN55C650 for only a couple of days and I must admit that I have had a hard time finding another LCD that even compares with this one on picture quality. I did find that the 120hz option tends to make high action scenes kinda jumpy, but you can turn it off with great ease. The TV also has internet apps like Pandora, YouTube, and Netflix(although my email today from Samsung's tech support let me know that it is not just my TV, none of the C650 models can actually use Netflix... yet... You can install it and look at a screen that tells you to update (there isn't one yet). The Samsung rep did tell me that it will be fixed soon though and with this TV's price I can wait a couple of months for an update.
DLNA on this TV worked like a charm for me using nothing more than the DLNA media server built into WMP 11.
All in all if I had the money I would be buying another one today. Highly recommend it!

Nice TV

TV is great, delivery not so good. Text said "2 man delivery" ... there was only one (and he was easily in his 70s!). My wife had to help carry it into the house.

Buy from Amazon by all means, but you'd better hold your breath on delivery day.
(May 09, 2010)

Very satisfied!

This new lcd TV is a replacement of an existing 50" Samsung plasma in my living room which is now moved and located in my family room. At first, I was a bit hesitated to try lcd because of the issue of angle viewing and picture quality in the past. I was also impressed with LED however; it is a little bit expensive and heard some reviewers of regarding issues of clouding on the screen. I also considered bigger plasma, which I was very happy with the picture quality and sharpness with my old one. Since we are in the era of energy savings I eliminated plasma on the list.

I test drive the movie "wanted" in bluray the first time I turn on my new TV set. What I noticed is the picture quality and sharpness is actually comparable to my old plasma. I was so impressed that even the built speaker sound was pretty good and decent enough for TV programs. My wife comment is that she noticed strange movement on the screen that for her it felt like watching behind the scenes. The main characters appear live like watching a TV sitcom interviews. I have researched online that what she found out is the "soap opera effect" which I was able to turn off on the settings and everything were great after. This setting shall be default to "off" position coz a lot viewers don't really appreciate it.

I strongly recommend this lcd tv. All the features and qualities, the reasonable price including the delivery are outstanding. A true five star.

Great buy, great TV

I've had this TV for about 8 weeks at the time of this writing. I felt I should get some usage out of it before sharing my opinions. I finally decided to replace my early model oversized rear projection HDTV that I've had for ten years. I knew I wanted a Samsung LCD based on reputation. The lower-end LEDs still have some issues, so I decided to stick with the tried-and-true traditional LCD. This new model wasn't available in any store yet, so I bought it from Amazon having never seen it and finding no reviews. I also bought the USB wireless internet device to go with it so I could use the integrated Netflix.
The default picture had the much-touted "soap opera effect" and was terribly distracting. Everything was like watching a homemade video. After some fiddling with the settings that I found online for last year's model, the picture is fantastic. There is some minimal glare from the windows behind me, but not to the point of being distracting. My old TV had much worse glare issues. I'm also pleased with the viewing angle. Yes, I suppose the picture is not quite as sharp as straight-on viewing, but it's still very good, and nobody in my family has ever mentioned it or attempted to change seating based on the angle.
This model has about a dozen built-in internet applications, including Youtube (cumbersome) and some games (lame), but the real gem here is Netflix. I used to use a Roku box, but this is seamless, and if you're lucky enough to select an HD title and have adequate bandwidth, the picture is great.
For the time that I've had this TV, there is nothing I don't like about it. It even looks good when it's off.

Game Changer

I have been dreaming of a 52" Samsung LCD HDTV ever since I saw one in Best Buy, and from all the way across the store you could see it was in a different league from all of the rest. The competition has narrowed some since then, but according to Consumer Reports, the Samsungs are for the most part the highest rated at 74 and 75 out of a possible 77; the 77 was awarded to a 7000 series Samsung TV that is no longer made and is replaced by a gazillion thousands of dollars 3D model. When the new LED's came out, I had read all of the reports, and according to the manufacturer they were supposed to be better. The problem is they are not. Consumer reports mixed the 74 and 75 ratings on both the LCD's and LED's, both garnering the same scores. My friend went and bought 2 LED's, the 40 and a 32. So I sucked it up and went into Best Buy and saw the LED's side by side with the LCD's, and I could not see any difference, and I mean any difference between the pictures at all. As a matter of fact some of the LED's didn't look as good. (Maybe it was the settings) So I immediately came home, and bought this 55; the LN55C650. I got scared when I saw the 52 was no longer available, I thought maybe they will phase out the LCD's, and I better get one while I can. This darn thing was going for well over twice the price less than a year ago.

Many, many reports have been written about the problem of the LED lighting in the Samsung LED models because they went with a side lighting configuration. The one I saw myself. The blacks are not black, but rather gray. I saw it next to an LG and it was true the blacks in the LG were richer and deeper by far, and the crazy thing was looking at the LCD, a Samsung LN55C630 55-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV (Black) the blacks were just as rich as the LG's. Also many complain of when using the LED as a computer monitor, which is another totally mind blowing, and cool experience, part of the reason for buying one of these is it has a PC input, or should I say inputs since you get a VGA input, as well as a DVI which you need a simple plug that goes from DVI to HDMI in the number one input marked DVI. Anyhow the complaint with the side light LED is that the light bursts along the edges as a backlight bleed when using it as a computer monitor, and also during certain types of viewing. Also the "clouding" as they are calling it is when the bottom corners have this illumination which lightens up the blacks, seeming like this is the source of what causes the rest of the screen to lose the deep blacks. It becomes apparent in a dark room. Ok let's get onto what I am excited about. I have not seen the backlighting burst of light along the edges, but I have seen the grayer black's right in the store.

High def fever strikes home. I bought a couple of Acer H243H bmid 24-Inch Widescreen LCD Display (Black)ACER LCD monitors at 1920 x 1080p and was amazed at the picture. When my friend who bought the LED's, and then I took him into Best Buy to do an A-B comparison, he returned the LED's and bought 3 LCD's, all Samsungs again for the same amount of money. So instead of one 40 inch, and one 32 inch, he wound up with two 46's, and one 32 for the same money. After I ordered the 55 I couldn't wait, so I went ahead and bought a 46 the LN46C670 which is equal to the Samsung LN46C650 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV (Black) I put the 46 in the bedroom, and the 55 in the living room. I realized that after viewing high def, I wasn't going to be satisfied with the bedroom set. I told you about the fever.

I am running my home network with a Multimedia Center PC Windows Ultimate Vista 64, and feeding 2 stations for TV viewing with the Cisco-Linksys Media Center Extender with DVD and they have "up scaling" which gives you a 1080p equivalent. Most all TV stations are broadcasting in 1080i due to bandwidth considerations of having to pump through the enormous amount of data for 1080p, so with the up scaling, to make up for that, you can really see the difference. Unless you have a Blu-ray player, or HD DVD you are probably not getting 1080P. I have an antenna on the roof, and receive all of my programming totally free, and at the highest def because over the air waves do not have the same distribution challenges of having to run the signals through a pipe. You ought to look into that.

Go for this 55 inch model, it has the extra wattage in the audio, pumping out a whopping (satire) 15 watts a side instead of 10, and yes you can hear the difference between the 46 and 55 because of that. Set it to SRS Surround and tweak the equalizer in both models. Also the internet built into the set is definitely something you want to have. With Google TV coming in the fall, and the so many great applications they download for free, you have instantly downloadable movies for cheap. I was hoping to get Amazon Video on Demand because they have the latest releases as cheap as 99 cents, and no monthly subscriber fee; so you can enjoy a movie when you want, and not pay for one when you don't. Google the Google TV feature, it is "Smart TV" and as they claim will change the way we use the big screen forever. Why not integrate our TV's totally into the mainstream. It's pretty exciting. I don't know if the internet TV feature will avoid you having to get the Logitech module or not, but there is a chance that it will. I love the already included Pandora free radio, no commercials, and all my favorite music, old and new pumped into the TV, or you can go online and do it there also. This TV with the ethernet port already has a ton of content built right in. The first time you hit the internet content button it will download the latest apps. There are more apps to come whereas this new medium is an ongoing development. So for the small amount of additional money, move up to the interent TV feature. There are alternative ways of receiving that content though, for example through your PC.

Plasma TV's have an incredible picture, and sport crazy contrast ratios and go for a song. The problem is that they do break, and are un-repairable because the screen costs more than the TV, and they also have serious burn in problems. I understand, and not from firsthand knowledge, that if you leave a PC on in one for over 15 minutes it leaves a shadow that doesn't go away. Don't quote me on that, it is only hearsay.

To really experience this TV in all its glory, it is good to have a surround sound system. I am using my existing 2-channel stereo systems for now, but by adding a sub to that, it is already giving me a peek into what can be; a mind blowing movie experience, but like my brother says, "It is too much. It is good for the occasional movie (or sporting event) but for day to day, you want to just use the speakers in the TV" I'm saving my pennies, and doing some research on building the surround system. So far a great way to hide the speakers is to get the Yamaha NS-IW480CWH 8" 3-Way In-Ceiling Speaker System (White) Two pairs of those should take care of the rear and side channels. Then a small set of bookshelves for the front, and a Yamaha NS-C444 2-Way Center Channel Speaker and adding my sub a Velodyne 12" Velodyne DLS4000RB 12-Inch 200-Watt DLS Series Subwoofer with Remote (Black) should round it out. You don't need a super expensive regular speaker setup for surround, the top speakers only require very little in the way of wattage or speaker size. Getting a good sub on the other hand takes watts and more in the way of size. I am sorry for getting off on a tangent; I am super excited about the whole experience.

Ok to wrap this up, it is my suggestion to go a little larger than you normally would. There are two main reasons for this; one is that don't think old tube sizing dimensions. A 55 inch LCD is only.. what? 33 inches tall, but super wide. So if we had an old square TV, a 35 would seem large, whereas a 32 in an LCD would be much smaller in comparison. Also you need to realize that this is going to be a long term investment, and the experience you want to go for is the feeling like the person on TV is right there in the room with you, or in the action scene you are right there in the middle of it. A lot of people think old TV dimensions so they tend to buy something that in reality has a bigger number attached to it, like a 40, but after getting it home and viewing it for awhile, they wind up wishing they had at least one size larger. Also, another change in thinking is that with old TV's the resolution was so bad you needed to get real far away from it to make it appear smooth. With the super high resolution you can get a lot closer. See the chart for see what the range of sizes are for your viewing distance.

Finally the most controversial comments of all. To me after owning these, it has created a feeling in me, every time I watch it, and even every time I walk through the room that this is something special. It makes me smile, and I get a lift. I get the feeling in both rooms and especially in the living room with the 55 that I now have a media room. Ok it is not one of those crazy special rooms with the theatre seating, and a whole wall projector screen, but I get some of that same feeling. To me it is a game changer. Forgive me for saying this, but it is a chin lifter. I feel like I have finally made it. I know that sounds ridiculous, but that is the feeling that I get. It's like WOW this is profoundly affecting my fun time, and is giving me something to look forward to. Maybe over time I will grow more accustomed to it, but for now it feels like a real game changer. Check out the photo I uploaded. I know this is a high quality plastic surround but the finish on it looks like a polished grand piano. I tried to capture it on film as best I could. Get the fever, and no matter what set you get and by whatever manufacturer, join the over 60 million people who own high def TV's in this country.

Samsung 55 inch TV

The TV is crisp clear and the sound is the best I have ever heard from a flat screen TV. I really like the swivel base. It makes it easy to adjust the angle, which I do because I watch it from the kitchen and the living room.

Great set, bad PIP

Samsung is still behind Sony in use and funtionality. The TV works very well but Samsung engineers made some mistakes. The inablity to not connect a keyboard is a huge issue with the overall ease of use with the internet/web based applications. Another quarky issue i noticed right off the bat is with the "PIP" picture in picture option. I bought this tv on the premise the pip would be fully functional. I've used many sets over the years, basially all sony's and they got the pip right on the mark. Samsung however has opted to only allow the sub picture to use the cable/air input which doesn't permit you to source any of the hdmi/component devices to it. This blunder is a waste of the pip option. The Coax input will basically be outdated in 2 years which will make the pip feature obsolete on this set. If you want to get a set with pip you're going to have to look else where as all samsung TVs are made this way.

Great Set...Great Price

Being the early adopter, I looked into the 3-D Samsungs and the LED Samsungs. I made a personal decision that while 3D has a "cool" factor, it was still awkward, expensive, and potentially a gimmick that won't be around for too long. The LED's were twice the price of the LN55C650 (paid $1,400) and offered a worse viewing angle and uneven side backlighting, despite having better black details and overall contrast.
I am completely satisfied with this set. It looks amazing, has ethernet and wireless connectivity options (I use ethernet because it's available to me, and faster), great networking capabilities for streaming movies, music, and photos from my various computers. Additional media through USB drives and direct camera hookups (except Canon SLRs!) make this a versatile package, and did I mention only $1,400!! I used the extra money to by a 7.1 home theater system to complete the living room.
I highly recommend this set to anyone looking to upgrade from a 720p/1080i set or gasp! a CRT.

Be Amazed!

I have to honestly say that over my electronics purchases over my lifetime - this tv is the best value bar none! 4 years back I purchased the state of the art samsung lcd 32" tv which was great at the time - but I just recently replaced it with this model. You will be blown away - my old favorite DVDs Predator, Aliens, etc... Look so amazing its unreal. The video footage looks so good it looks pre-production because it looks so real. It is a whole different viewing experience. You will be re-experiencing your favorite DVDs in realistic quality! I also have a EPSON projector and it just doesn't feel the same as this tv. This tv is crystal clear - with amazing color and sharpness. You can look up my other reviews - but I honestly have to say you cannot go wrong with this tv. To me its just magic - that you can buy such a high quality viewing experience at this price! Simply Amazing!

Great TV and a fantastic picture

I bought this TV about 2 weeks ago and it took me a while to set it up and get it looking good. first thing you should do is make sure none of the eco-settings are on or you'll get the problems of the screen going from bright to dim every few seconds. I have my set on standard contrast because dynamic was really really bright. the screen is very crisp and im really enjoying movies and TV again. the automotion plus is kinda ok with me on some movies and a pain in the butt in others. it makes everything so smooth that it kinda resembles VHS recorded comercials. then there are other times where it actually stutters a little. I plan on watching the original star wars trilogy this weekend to see how cool those movies look on it.

I plan on running my internet connection to the TV as well because it's setup for netflix and Amazon-on-demand so Im sure i'll be using those services a lot. Xbox360 games look amazing on this thing. Im very happy with it so far.

Great TV!

After much research and agonizing, I replaced my 12 year old Sony rear projection 53" TV with this Samsung 55" LCD TV. I got free delivery (which was great) and a great price from Amazon.

I have to say I am so happy with my choice! Even before I got the HD service from Direct TV, the picture amazed me, and once the HD service and my home theater was set up, I was blown away!

Great TV Great Price

Great feature set and performance for this price point. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a great 55" HD TV.

Samsung 55 Lcd

All I can say is I love this tv!
We tried out the Samsungs new Led 3d tvs. Over priced! I did not like them. I am not really into watching movies with glasses that are $150.00 a pop. I do not like the soap opera affect at all. With this Lcd, it is easier to turn the soap opera affect off than the Led. Because Led is the most clear sharpest picture. Some folks like that. Not me, I like to watch tv and not be distracted as if i am watching a cheap soap or home video. I got an head ach from it. The picture quality on this tv is amazing.

There are many features with this Tv that are the same with the new 3d tv.s And the price is Fabtastic with this one!..You can still connect to the internet with this one also. The back lighting to me, is fine. The blacks are very nice. The sound is good, you can change sound settings depending on what you are watching or how it please's your ears.

Get a Good Hdmi cord and blu ray player that is wireless, I got the Samsung BD-C5500 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player. Hooked up to the Net just fine.
Put it on your wall mount and you'll get many complements as this tv has a beautiful finish.

For the Price of this 2010 top of the line Samsung Lcd tv, you can not go wrong.

By the way,
Delivery was great. Tv came in perfect ( I was a little worried ) condition and it was a white glove service. But, we just had the guys bring it into the house and we did the rest...

Arrived broken but ...

I got the TV shipped to me but the screen was cracked--not good--but Amazon customer service was stupendous and outstanding. I didn't want to take a chance on another shipment of this size so I went ahead and bought it from Best Buy for the same price and paid more for sales tax, etc. However, I love the TV and it is still fantastic for the price--best deal I could find when I was doing research.

Great TV

Ordered this TV in late April to replace another Samsung. Arrived quickly and the shipping company Amazon uses unboxed it, checked it was working and removed all of the extra packaging materials.

My family and have been amazed by the overall picture quality. Incredibly sharp HD images and bright colors. Our old set was good but this is great. The only downside is you often see how artificial the sets are in the programs you are viewing.

The Internet apps are a nice touch, but now I find my TV telling me I need to update its software... Netflix app is frequently used and is the most useful for us.

Integrates well with an existing Samsung Blu-Ray player and with my DirecTV HD box.

To top it off got a much better price from Amazon than from any of the local big box retailers that carry it.

My only real complaint is that the base is a bit wobbly.

Samsung LJN55C650

Wow! I thought my Sony Bravia was great but this TV is even better. I thought the touch of red would be distracting, but you don't even notice it. This thing is awesome.

Samsung 55" LCD TV LN55C650

An outstanding TV. I have been watching various brands in the stores for several months trying to figure out the best picture quality and value. I quickly noted that the Samsung's had by far the better picture quality. This one went down several hundred dollars so I bought it through Amazon.

Totally amazed by the depth and quality of color on this TV. Would highly recommend to anyone out there looking for a 55" if they're wanting to get the best.

Samsung LN55C650 Review from LCD TV Buying Guide

The C650 series from Samsung contains some older upgrade technology features such as CFL backlighting, 3.4" depth, Touch of Color bezel, 120Hz Auto Motion plus and the ultra clear panel. This model falls in the lower to mid range of Samsung's LCD/LED lineup. We thoroughly enjoyed last years B650 series LCD so were happy to review the successor model. And as anticipated, we were very pleased with the results. We hope that Samsung will continue to offer/produce a value oriented CFL backlit LCD TV as their technology contained in these TVs offer exceptional value combined with excellent quality.

Calibration: The 55C650 was very calibration friendly without going into the service menu. In fact, from the movie mode setting, there were only minor tweaks needed here and there to close in on D6500K. There is an ample array of calibration controls including white balance and noise reduction. The standard setting continues to have a major blue push. The Movie setting allows adjustment of all picture setting options and brings the picture to life.

This LCD TV has a tremendous CFL backlight. We needed only set the backlight at 7 from the 1 - 20 scale to achieve a desirable picture in a darkly lit room. The backlight strength could come in handy. Use it to control viewing in bright to dark rooms rather than change the contrast or brightness controls.

Processor Testing: The internal processing chip sets for the C650 series LCDs are stout. Edges from test material are clear and crisp with both 480i and 1080i material. Transitions are extremely smooth, even from side to side panning or fast moving objects.

720p/1080i/1080p Picture Quality: Black levels are awesome as is contrast and brightness. Images are crisp and the detail is amazing with HD sources. Here's the big dilemna with HD content; whether to use the 120Hz AutoMotion feature or turn it off. It is not really needed. HD Blu Rays and Broadcast material are already very clear - and the feature can introduce some unwanted kitchy side effects with the background material - even though much improved from last year. I recommend turning it off for most HD content, though there will be some occasional judder effects. I would use it for animated HD content, sports programming HD content, or other HD content that has lots of fast motion. Other than that I would turn it off (see how below in features section).

After turning off the 120Hz feature, high definition content appears vibrant, realistic and extremely crisp. Blacks are rich for an LCD and contrast is a strength. One of the highlight features of the LN55C650 is its picture depth perception. Samsung has been unparalled in this area lately. I believe this is due to the companies Ultra Clear Panel technology which does allow for some glare on the screen but the tradeoff with great depth and rich colors is a winner.

Black Level/Contrast/Contrast Ratio: Black Levels on the C650 series LCD HDTV is super saturated, as black as the glossy black bezel surrounding the screen. We measured post calibration ANSI contrast at an unbelievable 5408:1 with the backlight at 7. We believe contrast is enhanced by the Ultra Clear Panel that Samsung uses for this LCD TV. The TV can get extremely bright and has exceptional range. Contrast appears superb on this TV, and we don't say that about many - especially not LCD TVs.

Internet Options: There is an array of Internet options, some proprietary. Samsung has increased the options. The Youtube option was pretty good. We found the Yahoo! Widgets in finance and weather pretty weak and non-worthy. Some other options are Panadora, Vudu, Blockbuster, Netflix, USA today AP new ticker.

Aesthetic Considerations: The C650 has lots of looks. The 55C650 is 3.4" deep while the smaller units are 3.2" deep. A nice wall mount or table top depth (without having to pay up for the super thin TVs). The framing bezel is a nice width about 2". It's black with a plexiglass overlay that goes just past the edges to give the appearance of glass. I like the effect. Under the center bottom frame there is a unique wide V shape and subtle silver gray and red Touch of Color. A nice little accent to a design that might be slightly boring with it. The sturdy swiveling table top stand must weight 12 pounds. It has an attractive glass surface with a clear neck. The stands allow for about 20 degrees of swivel.

Judder problems

I bought the LN55C650 in May of 2010. I bought it after being pleased with another Samsung LCD tv, the LN52B630. I am having judder problems with this tv watching cable, dvds, and bluray movies. . I know the judder problem is the tv's issue since I removed my old LN52B630 and hooked everything up from my old Samsung the same way to this one. I was very satisfied with LN52B630's ability to handle judder and blur. I experimented with the custom blur and judder settings on the LN52B630 and figured that the LN55C650 (also a 120 hz Samsung LCD) would handle judder in a similar fashion. When I couldn't get the LN55C650 to perform the same way, I tried changing the custom settings and even using the preconfigured (smooth, clear, ect.) settings to fix my judder problem. Unfortunately, nothing I tried worked. The problem happens intermittently and is very distracting.

I called Samsung and they sent out a service request. Two guys came to get my tv and I showed them the problem. They both agreed that there was something definitely wrong. They took the tv for several weeks (now I can't return it because I only had 30 days and it took a week for them to come and get it). I called to see why it hadn't been returned and was told that they could find no problem with the tv. They said that they believed what I was saying but couldn't reproduce it in their tests. They said they would change the main board and that any problems should be fixed. If they weren't fixed, they said they would take it back and change every board on it until it was fixed. They recently brought it back and the problem persists. I guess I am going to have them come back and try replacing the other boards.

I am really concerned that this model may just have judder problems. Neither of the two released firmware updates have addressed any judder problems. If you read ALL of the Amazon reviews on this model, you will see others that are having the same issue. Many of the users have to turn off the automotion plus feature to avoid it. This was not the case on my one year old, LN52B630. On my LN52B630, you could customize the settings to your liking without any weird, frame skipping, jerky movements.

After studying the problem for over a month, I am convinced that the problem has to do with the judder control in the automotion plus settings. The blur controls in this setting seem to work fine. However, as soon as you start to use the judder control, you get intermittent weird movements that almost look like the tv is skipping a frame and trying to catch up. Like I mentioned, my LN52B630 had no such problem. Many of the Amazon reviewers had to turn off the automotion plus feature to avoid this, but you can't get your best picture without the automotion plus. Therefore, you end up with a television with extra blur (with the automotion plus turned off) because Samsung's automotion plus feature is defective. It's too bad, because the picture on this tv is awesome when this problem is not taking place.

Now I am stuck with a tv that I am not sure is fixable. Until Samsung addresses this problem with a workable firmware update, I would suggest staying away from it until Samsung addresses this problem. If it's happening to lots of others (Amazon reviewers), then I'm obviously not the only one. It looks like a widespread problem at this point.

Loved the TV .. the shipping, not so much

Pros:
* Excellent picture quality at a great price via Amazon. Just started using it, no complaints so far.
* Quickly connected to the net via my router, was able to access youtube, netflix et all painlessly
* i was pleasantly surprised when i plugged in my 1TB external HDD and it recognized my movies and played most w/o issues.
* Was able to download and use the iphone app for remote controlling the tv

Cons:
* Shipping was not pain-free. Scheduled a delivery for a specific time slot. No phone call or delivery person. Tracking information did not show any delivery activity. I called CEVA shipping and a (nice) lady picked up. After waiting a bit, I was told the tv was still at the airport awaiting shipment. They said they would send someone to deliver in the next few hours. Delivery did arrive a couple of hours later, but only one delivery guy showed up. I had to help him carry it up two flights of stairs, which I was hoping i would not have to do since an Amazon customer rep specifically said the delivery people would be responsible for delivering to my apartment and unpacking it.
TV was undamaged though.
* Only one AV input, doesnt play nice with my Wii and old Xbox which do not have a hdmi output. but i knew this before buying
* Samsung needs to up its game and provide wifi access to such TVs w/o extra accessories.
* No "PC" share equivalent for Mac.

Stunning 55" HDTV

Just got this TV this week. Haven't had a lot of time to mess with it. I've been studying up on new TVs for some time now. I sold a 7 year old Mits 55" rear projection set over the 4th of July. That was a nice set, but behind on technology and not as sharp as the newer LCD/Plasma sets. I looked at 3-D (can't see myself sitting in front of the TV with glasses, plus limited content for the price), LED (seemed gimmicky--my eyes couldn't discern a difference and I don't care about the slight savings in depth), and finally decided on this TV. CEVA delivered the set and did a great job. Showed up well within the quoted window, had 2 young, strong guys who were very careful and respectful of my home. They quickly unboxed and set it up, asked me if I wanted to hang on to the box (I didn't), and they hauled it away. All VERY FAST! They didn't put their hand out, but I threw them each a $5.

This TV has a great picture. I immediately turned off the Auto Motion Plus. The default setting is Standard, and each input can be set up differently. For gamers, that means that you can run a separate HDMI cable for your games and have all of the settings specific to that device. I may even run component cables to the TV from my cable box and set them up with the Auto Motion Plus turned on for specific content, such as sporting events. In general AMP does strange things, and I'm not a big fan. I like my content the way it was intended to look. That's just me. I think that's probably the #1 setting that people will fool with, so Samsung should have made it easier to get to from the remote.

I purchased the Wireless LAN Adaptor and it is working fine. Setup was a breeze with my Netgear router. For some reason download speed is considerably slower than my computers. Maybe it's just a function of the internal hardware. I'm lucky to get 1.5 Mbps, and I'm getting 20 Mbps through my cable ISP. Overall, the internet stuff is cool, and I can connect to my computers as well.

All in all, another happy customer.

Great TV for the price!

My girlfriend and I set out to buy a Sony LCD. But once we got to the shops, we began looking further into the LED's and the Samsung line of both types of TV's as well. We both liked the samsung LCD picture more than either LED. The LED pictures were very bright, but had an artificial feel to them, where as the Samsung LCD picture looked vibrant, crystal-Clear, and visibly brighter than it's Sony counterpart. We thought the Samsung LCD had the best picture out of all the T.V.s. Blu-Rays look amazing. Our television programs could be better, but I am pretty sure it is our AT&T Uverse causing it, as everybody I know with AT&T Uverse claims the HD picture is not as good as Directv. The internet TV function is fun, but HD movies from Netflix are not avaialable. At least not that I have seen. Amazon did a great job of shipping the TV quickly. It showed up in PERFECT condition. The box looked like it just rolled off the Samsung assembly line. No Dead pixels. Amazon saved us a pretty penny, although, the TV has already dropped in price since I bought it. :( You can't go wrong with this TV.

Great Value

This was a great price for a great TV. If you can wait the week for delivery it is a much better deal than anywhere else I looked.

Looks real good!

I just bought this TV and was totally blown over by it picture quality. HD pictures are looking really good. I hooked it up to my music system so I can not say anything about the sound.

Reading the reviews here, I was concerned about the glare but I have to say it is not as bad as I had feared.

I have not hooked it up to internet yet. Will update my review once I do so.

High Quality TV

We love this TV. We already owned a 40" Samsung and have been familiar with their products. This TV lives up to all that has been written about it before. The internet connection is easy to operate and fun to use. The TV base is not as sturdy as I would have expected for such a large TV.
(July 26, 2010)

Great picture / shut off auto motion plus

Love the picture, but the tv comes preset with "automotion plus" turned on. This creates a weird looking picture that some call the Soap Opera Effect. It is hard to describe, but it is like you are watching a movie, except you are seeing it made with a high def hand held video camera. Very clear picture, but everything looks like a cheap video with poor production values.

The very simple solution is to go into the menu and shut off automotion plus. Problem solved. The result is a great tv with a great picture.
(July 30, 2010)

WOW is all I can say.

Great product. I had a Samsung 40' HDTV LNT4061FX that I bought in 2008. I was very impressed with Samsung then. (Except one issue. There is buzzing sound that people say it is coming from the inverter and all TVs have that) This time over I decided that I would again go with Samsung but took me a while to decide whether to buy the 3D or not. I went to one of the retailers to test drive the 3D LED TVs. But it did not feel right to me. Not for the price difference. I bought LN55C650 instead. I was extremely happy. And there is no buzzing sound either. They must have solved that problem in the meantime. I bought it in May and waited for 3 months to write a review. Even though both my Samsung TVs are 1080p the picture quality in uncomparable. LN55C650 is superior. Sharp and vivid colors. Details are jaw dropping. I have tons of 720p and 1080p AVI and MKV files on an external HDD. I use this TV mostly to watch these files. I have attached the computer and fed the video files into the TV via VGA but the picture quality is much better via the USB port. I have also connected it to the Internet. Although I like Google Maps and YouTube applications, the InternetTV feature of these TVs nowadays do feel like just a proof of concept application. I am thinking one day the TVs will have their own operating systems, browsers, Wii like remote and keyboard. The InternetTV without a keyboard is painful to the nth degree. I am afraid if I keep punching the same arrow keys any more it will break the remote.

I watched the World Cup with OTA signal 1080i and 720p on two different channels and was very satisfied. I do not have Cable or Satellite so OTA is my only option. I did not find any problems with the TV whatsoever and giving a 5 star considering the InternetTV feature is at its infancy.
(August 01, 2010)

Very dissapointed :(

After watching a display model next to various plasma tv's in a showroom, I decided to sell my Panasonic 46" for an LCD TV. Big mistake. I tried two models before this one, a Sharp back lit led and the 55" 3d led Samsung. The 3d model had uniformity issues which is why I returned it. I thought I would get used to it but I was wrong. The Sharp has the best image quality and viewing angle of the three but the sound sucks. And so I moved to the 650. Viewing angle on the 650 is very small. As soon as you move from dead center, the colors shift and all the skin colors start looking an unnatural pink hue. Black levels are very very good, as well as color reproduction (when dead center in front of tv). But, under controlled lighting, these sets have uniformity issues. Maybe not as bad as the LED models, but it can be clearly noticed. Auto motion plus is also a joke. On TV programing it is not so bad but on my blue ray player, it is awful. The one thing that I do like about this TV is the sound which is very decent for a flat TV. My 30 days return period passed and I cannot longer return it, but if I could do it all over, I would have kept my panny or the Sharp.

What a bargin--who needs the LED or 3-D hype?

Dollar for dollar you just can't beat this deal for a 55" tv. There's a reason Samsung is top rated. They might be a little more expensive but all you have to do is a little research and a side by side comparrison. The picture speaks for itself!!! I don't have any ties to Samsung Company for the record. Will continue to keep tract of the competition but for now they're on top of their game.
This is the second LCD I purchased from Amazon. We also bought the Samsung 40" for our bedroom. Works beautifully.

Was also very pleased with the white glove service from Amazon delivery. Did have a little trouble contacting the delivery people because their telephone contact information was not provided just an e-mail that it was at their warehouse and ready to be delivered. I had to have Amazon contact them to set up an appointment with us for delivery.
Overall am a very happy customer and will continue to trust Amazon.com

Top notch

The Samsung LN55C650 is a top notch TV. The picture and sound are really great. This is the 4th HDTV I've owned and is the best of the bunch. Amazon gave me a geart price and zero interest. The best deal in town!

Great TV

We bought this 55" LCD Samsung TV to replace our old trusty Sony 46" rear projection TV. The difference is so dramatic it just blew us away. The picture is so sharp and the color is so vivid even regular DVD movies (non-BluRay) look so much better. The only issue I have is the non-film looking picture when we watch movies. The default picture settings are so bright/contrasty/vivid, most of the DVD movies we've watched look more like TV video broadcast than film based movies. I tried the movie picture setting which helps a little but still not quite film movie like.

I have the TV connected to our home network. It is quite easy to set up the TV to streaming movies and music from the Internet and my home PCs. It is so cool to stream photos wirelessly from my laptop and watch the slide shows on the TV. Setting up Netflix and Pandora is a snap too.

Overall we are quite happy with the new TV, especially the picture quality and the connectivity flexibility. The only improvement I wish would be a better movie picture setting and a real internet browser built-in, then it will be perfect.

Beautiful TV, Horrible Customer Service, Good Luck with Internet Apps

I originally purchased a Samsung LN55B650 but after the ethernet port stopped working they exchanged the unit. The biggest issue I have with my purchase is the absolutel lack of support from Samsung. When you call their support line, they can tell you nothing except constantly "I apologize for the inconvenience" and "May I put you on hold for 2 to 3 minutes." I assure you I am not exagerating.

With my initial TV, the remote stopped working after about one month. It took six weeks to get it replaced. It would have taken longer had I not called to help them discover the ticket had been mis-routed and no action had been taken. Then after about six months, the ethernet port went out. I ended up having to test a whole new ethernet line, calling my router manufactuer, ISP, and installing a new router before I could get them to do anything. I had to call multiple times per week from June 25th until I went and picked the replacement TV up from the warehouse (tired of waiting for delivery) on August 5th. I've never seen such a terrible customer service effort in my entire life especially for such a pricey product.

The exchange worked in my favor (I think) as they replaced my LN55B650 with a LN55C650. So I got this year's model. However, I can already see the same trend. When trying to watch and HD movie on Vudu, I constantly got buffering like every 40 seconds. I worked with Vudu reps who confirmed my internet connection was solid. I then called Samsung who insisted the TV was fine even though it only reported a speed test of 300 kbps while my laptop got a speed test of 2.6 Mbps on the same line.

Finally, a tier 2 rep called me several days later to say that he was sending a firmware update to me via UPS that had not been released yet but should address my issue. Well, I received it today and guess what....neither flash drive they sent would work. Shocker!

It's a beautiful TV and the picture is nice. If you're buying for the Internet functionality, be prepared to be patient and expect that you will receive no updates after the model year expires. And expect terrible customer service should you require it.

Have Had it 2 Weeks and Great So Far!

This is my first TV purchase in 10 years and I'm not a videophile but rather a sports fan who wanted a major upgrade. After months of reading reviews, visiting Best Buy and Costco, and reading more reviews, I finally pulled the trigger on this set. Once I started reading about the C650, I agonized over the decision for several reasons: Size (55" LCD vs. 50" Plasma), Appearance (Did not want the red Touch of Color), Glare (major concern but tradeoff with better picture), and Timing (these TVs keep dropping in price, seemingly every week). So to address these issues and more, hopefully summarizing/addressing many of the other reviews I read, here we go...

Delivery - I was very pleased with the delivery from Pilot. They arrived at the start of my 9-12 delivery window, set up the TV and moved my old and heavy 27" CRT to the garage. Had no problem tipping them $20 for the half hour or so they were there. One of them mentioned that they had never moved an old TV, especially one that heavy. If true, maybe should have tipped more.

Size - the 55" is perfect for my space. I kept going back and forth but the 55" looked so much bigger at Best Buy and, as a huge sports fan, I know I'll appreciate it. Although the Samsung plasma (C6500) looks like a great set too.

Glare - On Amazon, I noticed many complaints about glare on the C630 but not as much with the C650 even though I believe they have the same screen. I have a relatively dark room with no direct sunlight. During the day, there is some glare but it's not distracting. Personal preference and lighting conditions are a big part of being able to accept that this screen can produce some glare.

Touch of Color - It's not noticeable. It was on the B650, last year's model, but not on the C650. Wouldn't think twice about that.

Price - I don't see how much lower it can go at $1,450 but, at that price, it's already a great value.

Sound - Good enough for me. Might invest in a sound system at some point but does the job. Actually better in reviews than most other sets.

Off-angle viewing - Not too good. But 99% of the time it won't matter since it's just two of us at home.

Apps - Have just been using Pandora so far and love it.

Wireless Adapter - Buy the Rosewill RNX-N1, per one of the discussions on Amazon. It's much less than the Samsung adapter and works very well.

Dejudder - This is one that I struggled with somewhat. Play around with AutoMotion. With sports it's fine. But with some shows, you need to turn it off.

Settings - Most people seem to like to customize in Movie mode, but I much prefer Standard mode. To each their own.

In short, go for it! For the price, I couldn't find anything comparable.

I love our new tv!

I'd been researching and viewing flat screen HDTVs for nearly 2 years. The best pictures I've seen have been on the Samsung, Sharp, Toshiba and LG-in that order. I settled on the Samsung 650, and was able to buy it for $300 less than any other that carried that model. The colors, pictures and sound are equal to sitting in a movie theater. Our family-especialy my husband- are all very pleased with our new Samsung TV. We have ours hooked up to satellite and surround sound an its wonderful. Our PS3 blu-ray show movies in their best light with this television.

What a great deal

I spent a long time looking at various TVs as my old TV was gradually failing. After reading many reviews and looking at TV on display in stores we narrowed the choice down to Samsung. When I checked Amazon and saw the great price for the 55" full-featured set the choice was a no brainer.

This set has a great picture, the built-in speakers are satisfactory and the controls are handy. I run it on cable TV so I can't comment on over the air reception.

I found that I can't get closed caption when using HDMI, a minor problem. I also found that it doesn't have an S-video input for some of my old equipment, again a minor issue. Overall, a great set at a great price. I haven't tried hooking it up to my computer or the download features-I'm just interested in a great TV.

Amazon was great not just with the price but the speed at which my order was processed. The trucking company that delivered was on-time and friendly as they set up the TV and made sure that it worked.

If you have the room for a 55" set this is the one to go for. I'm sure that the 47" would be just as good, just smaller.

Unbelievable

I order my Samsung Monday and it was delivered free on Thursday. The delivery was suburb. Fast and hassle free. Pilot opened it, assembled the stand and put the TV on the stand and plugged it in. We checked that it was working properly and they were gone. Very professional and I am very pleased with that part of my transaction. Now all I can say is WOW, OUTSTANDING the picture is so crystal clear and sharp. The colors are just out of this world. I hooked up my DVD player and watched the Wrath of Kahn as my first choice and I thought I was on the bridge of the Enterprise. I can not believe what I am seeing, it's like watching all my DVD's for the very first time. I am like a kid in a candy store trying to decide what to watch next. I instantly upgraded my cable service and I may never leave the house again. It's been one week since I recieved my Samsung and I am so pleased with this product. I have left everything on the factory settings, although I have played with the different setting via the remote just to be able to see what I am capable of doing but never changed a thing. My son plays his Xbox and the graphics are killer as he puts it. I highly recommend this TV to who every is looking for a top notch, hassle free product.

Outstanding picture

Like so many others, I researched HDTVs to death for about six months. I had it narrowed down to the Samsung and the LG55LH90. I just couldn't justify the $300 price difference at the time I purchased this TV. Great black levels, great color, and incredible depth to the picture. I was more interested in picture quality than extra features. The reflective screen is not an issue in my room setup. I purchased a Playstation 3 as a BluRay player. The Playstation has wireless built in, so I didn't care if the TV had it. No problems with delivery or set up. I went to a number of stores and looked at the HDTVs on display, but most of them have the picture so overcooked,it is hard to tell any difference. The source material usually was not that great. I based my final decision on reviews here and elsewhere on the web.
