Reviews of Samsung LN46B630 from Amazon.com

Satisfied

I think this is a great purchase. I'm glad I got the "630" because it operates at 120 Hz & I haven't detected a blur in the picture. While I appreciate being able to choose between 3 sizes of text on the DIGITAL stations, I wish the same were true about the ANALOG stations. I only wish it had some kind of Channel Labeling to be used on the apparently unlimited "Favorite Stations" you can list. It would be a great help when checking out your favorite stations. If it's there, I can't find it. Other than that, I can't find anything negative to say about this item. I'll only add that in choosing between 40" & 46", I'm glad I opted for the larger & you should have a couple of adults on hand for removal from the carton & set-up. While it's not that heavy, it is a bit large for one person. Also, get an appropriate Surge Protector, so as not to have any warranty problems.

Great TV, Great delivery, Great setup

This is a great TV. Has everything I wanted plus everything needed! Amazon delivered very quickly. Received TV 4 days after ordering. It was great to have it brought in and connected. Couldn't have asked for more, especially at such a great price. Amazon gets two thumbs up on this one!!!

Great TV

Beautiful picture. We have lots of windows and there is hardly any glare on the screen on sunny days. The sound system is plenty adequate unless you want a surround system. Remote is easy to use and intuitive. Would definitely buy another Samsung TV.

Totally satisfied

We are very happy with the purchase of our 46" Samsung through Amazon. Not only is the picture great, but the price and service was excellent.

Great tv and Service

I just made a purchase through electronics expo. At first I was debating on going with a 60hz set, to save some money. Then I stopped by my local best buy and they had this model and also the b550 which was the other series I was considering. Seeing them side to side, it was obvious that the 630 was the one to buy. The picture was bright, no motion blur, deep blacks, an all around great set. I got home to price shop on amazon and came across electronics expo, so I gave them a call. We were able to settle on a price that fit my budget and it was shipped out promptly. I am very happy with this set and would recommend it to anyone looking for an amazing 120hz tv.
(October 20, 2009)

Not Really Surprised

I had a 40" Samsung (LN4061) for just over a year and a half and was totally sold on the matte screen and quality of the picture. When this unit was stolen in a burglary I knew that I wanted another Samsung. I decided to get a 46" model as I was no longer constrained by a width requirement. I also wanted a matte screen as there are no window coverings here. If you are concerned about glare, the matte screen models will make a believer of you.

I ordered a returned unit that was without some accessory that apparently isn't needed. It was delivered on time and the person stayed until I checked out the unit.

I am absolutely sold on Samsung and don't hesitate to tell friends and relatives about them. The 120Hz screen refresh rate is impressive. I haven't seen a 240Hz model, but I can imagine how much of an improvement they are.

I also don't mind not having to pay tax on items bought through Amazon.

Be sure to budget for expensive repairs

The downside of Amazon.com reviews is that they deal with delivery, setup, and performance--but not long-term reliability. I own last year's version of this unit--the LN-T4669F. And if you look up my review there, I say I love it. And well I should say so. Just like the current model, the performance--and bang for the buck--are great.

But. After owning it a year and a half the power supply went zzzzzt! and now, $350 and two weeks in the shop later, it's as good as new. Of course it was out of warranty, and Samsung said I'm on my own.

To be fair to Samsung, the local service guy (who has great ratings, dramatically unlike Samsung's recommended shop in my area) says that these big screen TVs are not as reliable as our old CRT TVs were. Less mature technology, he says. And he said Samsung isn't less reliable than other mainstream LCD TVs. Also that the Japanese manufacturers' units have gotten less reliable overall, as units from other countries have gotten better. Also, though I live in a very mild climate, I did run my TV for many, many hours.

So my point is that you should be prepared for occasional trips to the repair shop.

But another but: We've now bought two Samsung devices, and both have shown reliability problems. The other one was a DVD recorder (DVD-VR357), which was flakey and got flakier by the month. We replaced it with a Toshiba DVD recorder, which has been 100% reliable during long, hard usage, as have been several Toshiba laptops. So maybe our 46" Samsung TV is no worse than other flat screen units, maybe it is. I don't know. But the next time we get a flat screen I plan to think long and hard about a Toshiba. And also to dig around more for reliability ratings, such as the ones Consumer Reports publishes.

I might also consider one of those extended warranties, though most consumer advocates say they're a ripoff for most products. But maybe not for flat screen TVs?

Samsung 46 inch HDTV

I received the TV very promptly and am really enjoying it. It has a great picture and I feel it was a great value.

Mind-Blowing Picture

Out-of-this-world Picture... Amazing.

It's that simple. I am a tech junkie, and have installed numerous TV's in the past for others. I was ready to upgrade my plasma, as it seemed to be getting long in the tooth. I went to several places, watched the TV's and then starting narrowing them down. I finally edged it to the Sony Bravia, Toshiba Regza, and this model. I kept coming back to the Samsung. Not only is it aesthetically more pleasing just sitting there (which is a plus for the wives) the picture was stunning. Samsung higher-end LCD's have a vivid 3D quality to them not found in other LCD panels. I can't explain it, I just know I, and everyone else looking at them, saw it and was convinced it was the best LCD for the money. Almost, almost, as good as the LED panels.

I brought it home, hooked up the Blu-Ray, popped in Ratatouille and WOW. Even my wife, who could care less, could see the difference. My seven year old was blown away too! It brought the movie to life. I then popped in U-571 to see some natural action and again I was overwhelmed with the picture. It looked like you were live, right there. Then my son wanted to test out the XBOX 360 with Madden 2010. WOW, AGAIN! We couldn't believe how good the game looked.

Well, after he went to bed I flipped on CBS HD to watch The Good Wife. A simple one-hour drama in HD, but WOW again, it looked almost as good, and life-like, as the blu-ray of U-571. I flipped to other channels in HD and I couldn't believe how great it looked over my plasma and I know over many of the other TV's in the store that I was comparing it too.

I am convinced I bought the right TV, and the bonus is it looks good too. It has a glass stand, elegant look with the slight rose color, and swivels on it's base, which most other TV's did not. All in all, this is a TV worth considering if you are around the $1100-$1300 mark, and I would really look at this before I dropped another $1,000 on LED. I don't believe you will regret your decision. Pop your first Blu-Ray in, and you will destroy the box, never to take the TV out of your house and back to the store.

very satisfied

Now that I have the tv, I'm very satisfied with it. Beautiful picture-couldn't be more pleased. I had some trouble with the shipper in getting it, but Amazon was most accommodating in rectifying the situation.

Samsung 46" LCD TV

I have found the Samsung 46" LCD TV to be an excellent performer overall. I am happy with the matte display panel and the "Red" touch of color and the modern design of the unit overall. The display is very realistic on the HD programming and the normal TV broadcasts have excellent detail. I have observed one anomaly, from time to time on some DVD movies the transition from scene to scene are jerky, but I presume that perhaps custom adjustment of the judder control may rectify this issue. The remote is quite long and curved towards the bottom end, and contains an expansive set of controls. Overall I am satisfied with the Samsung purchase.

Tv is great. Delivery was ahead of schedule. The delivery men were very professional and thorough. They set up theTV, gave comprehensive instructions and made sure everything worked. Very impressive. Thanks, Amazon.

Great TV, but not perfect

I love this television. The display is excellent and it works very well. I only have a few complaints. The failure to include an S-video port seems premature, but I can accept that most technology is moving beyond this. I knew it was missing from my research and I did not need it. However, I was really excited about using the picture in picture with all my devices. Unfortunately, PIP only works when the second display is coming through the television input. Perhaps that's the industry standard, but it seems silly to me. I convinced all my devices to work with a dual display by purchasing a signal selector with a coaxial output, but it was really impractical and silly to have to do this. For most people, I think this television would rate five stars.

Everything I Expected

I've had this TV for about 4 months now and am VERY happy with my purchase. I have HD cable, blu-ray player, Onkyo SR-507 Receiver with 5.1 surround sound, all set up with HDMI cables (purchased thru Amazon at very low prices). Since I'm using surround sound (SS), I can't comment on the TV speakers (SS highly recommended!). I found the factory settings to produce a somewhat surreal picture so, after creating my custom settings, the picture is AMAZING [especially great for Blu-Ray, DVD (HD upconversion with blu-ray player) and HD Cable channels], which are as follows:
Backlight - 7
Contrast - 100
Brightness - 47
Sharpness - 20
Color - 50

Perfecto!!!!

I spent many weeks comparing prices and reviewing this product. I finally broke down and purchased the T.V. and cannot be happier!!!!!! This T.V. is clear, the sound is great, and the overall T.V. looks abosolutely wonderful!!!! I couldn't be happier......

Picture is great. Repair went smooth.

Picture is great. Very happy with the size. A problem arose a few hours into watching. A horizontal white line of pixels appeared on the screen. Fearing that I would have to box it back up and ship it back I called the number given and was relieved to hear that they were going to send a repair person to the house to fix it. A week later he came, replaced the screen and its been great since. No regrets buying it online.

After living with it for a couple of weeks....

I like it even better now. I calibrated with DVE (Digital Video Essentials) and the picture became much more accurate in color and clarity.

Worth waiting for

I was finally given permission from the wife to buy a new TV! I spent over two months shopping for a TV and was always comparing every TV to the features in this one. When this dropped to $999, I jumped.
When I connected it to basic cable and auto tuned it, it found HD signals from cable for the local stations!
Notes:
There is no S-Video inputs, so you will have to use component cables for older accessories, (I knew this before buying.)
The built in media player plays videos! (divx, xvid tested!)
The media player only plays from an attached USB device.
Cannot define HD channels. The TV will let you set up channel names only for the analog channels.
Have not hooked it up to internet as the only benefit is RSS feeds for stocks, weather and news. (currently not worth it for me to run network for this feature.)
(December 08, 2009)

Internal NTSC tuner is unaccepatble

I have worked in video production and we have owned a Philips LCD HDTV for over 3 years so I know what to expect of these devices.

If you do any viewing of SD = Standard Definition - analog channels via a cable TV service and withOUT a cable box, you will NOT be happy with this TV. Although the set provides for fine tuning these analog stations, it's not enough. The picture never gets to an acceptable level. When I fed a live analog cable channel from a standard VCR via a simple RCA video cable to the Samsung, the image was significantly better than the Samsung's built-in NTSC tuner. Only then was the image equal to our older Philips LCD set.

For those with digital cable service or willing to use a cable box, this will probably not be an issue.

Also, there are NO S-VIDEO inputs anywhere and the standard audio-out jacks offer only a fixed level output.

There is no headphone output.

------------
The HD displays - as expected - are spectacular. This is true whether they are from the built-in ATSC tuner, the component inputs from a DVD or the HDMI input from a hi-def Blu-Ray player. The number of controls for picture quality is excellent.

Very fast motion and lower 1/3rd crawls are noticeably better on this set than our 8ms Philips.

As with most LCD TVs today, audio quality from the built-in, down-firing speakers is clear but tinny. Frankly my 10 year old tape cassette player has richer tone and it only cost $40. Again, the old Philips LCD-TV with speakers on either side of the screen sounds much better.

-------------
We've only had the Samsung for a day but it's probably going back.

Purple Bars

TV was just delivered and hooked up. I have great picture quality but there are large purple bars scrolling slowly from bottom to top. Any ideas as to what may be causing this problem?

Good TV, good price.

I needed a temporary TV for my trip to DC. I was going to be in town for about 4 months and couldn't go that long without having an HDTV to play my PS3 on or watch TV. I basically looked for something under $1k that was about 46"s and did well with video games and regular broadcast TV.

Bottom line, for the price, this TV is really good. PS3 games and Bluray look great with the HDMI input and SDTV looks good as well. It has a game mode that allows all the processing to be turned off so that there is no lag, and truth be told, I turned it off for TV as well because the 120hz mode made everything look too much like video.

I only have two complaints. One is that the codecs supplied to play downloaded content don't cover a lot of formats. This was a big enough problem such that many of my downloaded 1080p movies would not play with sound. The other is start up time (from hitting power to seeing an image) seems really long. Like about 4 seconds. That doesn't sound like a long time, but it could be an issue with some. It's sort of weird that an LCD TV would have this long of a start up, but I'm telling you about it, you decide if it's a factor. Other than that, for the price, it's a good TV.

Great TV, will recommend

Did over 3 months research on TV, finally decided to go with this one. I was looking at Bestbuy, Sears and couple other places, at the end, I decided to get it from Amazon. Well, I have been buying things from Amazon from time to time, but never this big. I was a bit worry at first coz I use the free shipping as usual, just to save some money.... :P Well, it turns out pretty good. The delivery service was good. They call me 10 mins before they arrive. Nice...

As for the TV, no complain so far... It works right out of the box. Didn't even have to read the manual. I set it up in just few minutes. Nice image quality, so far I only use 120Hz when I watch football. will get some movie later to test it out more... Overall, good quality TV, well built. will certainly recommend..
(December 14, 2009)

Great TV

I bought this TV (actually the LN46B640) because of the reputation, and it did not fail me! Picture is fantastic with HDMI and component, sound is awesome. The only thing I don't like is that mine did not have the optical input, only an optical out. Doesn't make sense to me, but if you use HDMI it doesn't make a difference. I would recommend this television to anyone who can afford it!
(December 18, 2009)

Great Picture!!

We got the TV in record time. It was delivered inside the house, taken out of the box, set up & they made sure the TV was working before they left. The picture is beautiful. The people in the TV almost look like they are in the room with you. Great picture & great TV.
(December 21, 2009)

Very nice for the price

Got this TV after several months of research and in person comparisons... I bought if for $1,000.

PROS:
*Feature to price ratio is above most other brands
*Very nice picture of course, huge array of color modifications
*120Hz really makes a difference on the way moving images look (alltough I've compared several 120hz TV's never seen any other TV that looks like this, makes everything look like a 3D soap opera, it's tough to describe, you need to experience it! even my family members have pointed this out)
*Customizable 120Hz menu
*Good looking TV, I would say Samsungs are the best looking TV's on the market
*Touch sensitive buttons (like the LG chocolate phone) always get complements with everyone when they first see them
*Swivel base (haven't used it, but still a nice feature not found on all TV's)
*Hidden speakers (unlike some sony models that have them on a bottom bar)
*Picture in picture (only works when the two sources you are trying to view are HD sources)
*Remote control has a piano black finish and is backlit
*The LCd screen has the mate finish (helps in reducing light reflection)
*Media play over the 2 USB ports (view pics. watch videos, play music)

Cons:
*Sound, allthough it is loud it's not that good... but then again, you can't ask much from two small and hidden speakers. Get a home theatre system
*The TV bezel allthough its pretty nice looking it also is a dust magnet and can be easily scratched if you are not careful, this goes for the remote control as well.
*The touch sensitive buttons would have been perfect if they would lit, can't see them at night and of course you can't feel them either. You can also turn on/off the TV by accident whenever you are cleaning it.
*Does not support regular Wi-Fi connectivity for the RSS news feeds, need to buy the samsung USB dongle.

This is all I can think of for the moment.
All in all it's a pretty good TV and offers pretty good bang for your buck.

(December 23, 2009)

4.5 (the little things matter)

If it weren't for the fact that the volume control on the remote is cumbersome, I would have rated it 5 stars. You have to continually press the volume control to increase/decrease one unit at a time.

great television

I was somewhat concerned about buying a LCD television through the internet. I was concerned that this large screen television might be damaged in shipping. The TV arrived in excellent shape. My wife and I are extremely pleased with the performance of this electronic devise. The setup was fast and easy (even for the electronic naive age group). The quality of the picture is very clear with excellent color definition. I would highly recommend this TV as well as the vendor (through Amazon).
(December 30, 2009)

Beautiful picture, weak tuner

Others have commented on the picture quality of Samsung's B (2009) Series 6 TVs, and I have nothing to add in that department - with content produced in HD and a strong signal, the picture is stunning. But it would be nice if Samsung had put a little more effort into their ATSC tuner - it's a poor performer even compared to my el-cheapo (free with $40 Govt coupon) digital to analog converter box. I like to view blue-zone (30 miles away) TV stations with a rooftop antenna on a rotator, and where the converter box gets a rock solid picture and a 50% signal level, the Samsung shows a 1 or 2 bar signal level with lots of blocks in the picture and dropouts in the audio. Where the converter gets a 20% signal and a reasonable picture with occasional dropouts, the Samsung gets nothing at all. For $1,000 I was expecting performance at least equivalent to the freebie converter, if not a little better.

Obviously the company is focused on satisfying users with Blu-ray players and HDMI signals, and they do a great job in that market segment. But the ATSC tuner appears to have been slapped on as an afterthought. The cell-phone-like "signal bars" display is buried in the maintenance menu; it doesn't have it's own remote button as with the converter box. The bar display is slow to respond and not as informative as a 0-100 level meter. There is no way to add new channels to an existing channel list; the auto scan function always wipes out the current list before scanning.

Over-the-air viewers may want to look elsewhere for a decent tuner, but unfortunately most DTV reviews don't even bother to test or report tuner performance.

Samsung LN46B630 - Love It!

We hooked up our new tv before christmas and just love it. It was easy to set up. The picture is incredibly clear and bright, even before we had HD. The only thing I'm disappointed about is the sound quality. It sounds "tinny" with no bass presence. We already had external speakers, so we just plugged it in and now run it through our stereo. Sounds great now. I was also not impressed with the picture in picture feature. If this is important to you- do a little more research. It doesn't quite work the way you would think. Overall a great tv.

Samsung LN46B630 46 in LCD HDTV

Great TV with crisp clarity, especially with HD. Arrived as promised. Performing as expected without problems. Only complaint - delivery person not able to do anything except plug in TV to be sure it was working, due to contract issues. In cases of elderly, people who live alone or people unfamilar with setting up TVs, the ability to set up for the customer and initial problem solve would be very beneficial. With that said, I would buy from Amazon again.
(January 07, 2010)

Great TV, great service from Amazon!

I bought this TV on Black Friday for a great price. It took about a week to show up at my door. I took it out of the box and found out that it was damaged; the screen was cracked. I called Amazon immediately for a replacement. The customer service experience was excellent. The TV was shipped out the next day and again it took about a week to reach me. It was definetely worth the wait! This TV is great. My only issue so far has to do with Wii and karaoke games; particularly the Sing it games. Even with the gaming mode turned on the sound from mic to TV speakers is delayed by a few seconds, but this may be a Wii issue?. Other than that and so far I am very happy with it.
(January 08, 2010)

Very satisfied

Picture quality is great. I notice no blur in fast action sports as some have warned against with LCD. Sound is fine for a lot of programming but I have a Bose surround system which I use when sound is important.

Since this set has a QAM receiver, you can receive the unscrambled HD signals directly off the cable without paying for a HD cable box(cable companies are not allowed to scramble free channels such as PBS, NBC, CBS, etc.). Run the cable into a splitter and feed one coax to the TV and the other to your low definition cable box for the scrambled channels. Then run the cable box into the aux inputs of the TV to watch the scrambled channels (in normal definition of course). You have to run the channel scan function. I used all the default options and it worked fine. If you need to watch the scrambled channels in HD you have to pay for the HD cable box

My only complaint was the delivery service. They were very prompt and the two men were polite but they immediately opened the carton when they brought it into my house, plugged the TV in to show me the screen lit up and then started to assemble the stand. When they were unable to put the stand together I told them I'd do it as I was afraid they would do some damage. I escorted them to the door and when I got back the TV had toppled over! Fortunately, there was thick carpeting with a thick pad underneath and the TV worked fine when I plugged it back in and hooked up the cable. I would prefer they had left it in the carton and let me assemble the stand and remove the TV. The directions say "assemble the stand before removing the TV from the carton". I would have been much more careful.

VERY VERY PLEASED AFTER INITIAL DISAPPOINTMENT

Purchased the LN46B630 after weeks of research. I received excellent service all the way from AMAZON despite being sceptical about purchasing such a BIG TICKET item online. After I setup TV initially I was getting a GHOST SCREEN (PICTURE VERY BLURRED)after calling SAMSUNG and doing some checks it was discovered that I had a Power Supply issue (WHAT A RELEIF)in my house as enough power was not reaching unit. This was corrected and I am pleased to say this was the BEST $1,089 bucks ever spent. THE PICTURE IS ABSOLUTELY SPLENDID.I would not hesitate to recommend this unit
(January 11, 2010)

Great TV, Delivery sucked

Love my new TV. The picture is amazing, and I don't have any issues with sound that others have been complaining about. I tried playing COD MW2 on the XBOX, and after switching to the game mode it was like I had a brand new game with amazing graphics.
My only complain is with the delivery service. Two guys set up the stand in five minutes when my girlfriend was home and left. When I got home, I checked their setup, and they only used two screws, instead of four, lost the other two, and did not screw them in all the way. I had to go to a hardware store to purchase similar screws and redo the setup myself.

outstanding tv; questionable handling

Just received this TV, purchased from Amazon, not a partner site. It is an outstanding piece of equipment and value. Very nice picture, with many settings to customize if you wish. Samsung has become an impressive brand.

My only issue is with the handling somewhere along the line. The packaging was not damaged as far as I could tell, however, 3 of 4 corners of the plastic housing behind the clear bezel of the TV are missing chunks of plastic that just cracked off and are totally gone. A literal hole in the housing. Doesn't seem to affect performance, but I do expect better and to receive what I pay for, not damaged goods. This is my first disappointing experience with Amazon. Otherwise, it's 5 stars.

Beauty of a screen. I have it hooked via HDMI to a Win7/i5 box running a single GTX260, screen res snapped right in at 1920x1080. Mind you the ONLY signal I feed this thing is the Computer, with no audio going to the TV - and my review of it is for people who intend to do the same. The first adjustment I had to do out of the box was change the picture aspect to fill the screen. Out of the box it was overscanning just a little. After switching it to (I think) FILL, it snapped my desktop perfectly onto the screen with no overscan, and the pixels were a perfect fit. Tiny menu text looked crisp. I have not had enough time to fully mess with all settings... but what has worked for me is to put it in GAME mode, and then tune the SHARPNESS setting all the way down. If you put your face near the screen, you will see some weird edging effects around static pixels when there is any sharpness turned on at all. Turn it down to zero, and the TV stops trying to smooth out font edges. I run GBPVR on my system, and playback of videos and recorded TV looks great. I even record analog cable, and it doesn't look bad post compression on this screen from 10 feet away. Gaming - I play lots of shooters, and most importantly, IL-2 Sturmovik. I had to manually set it to support 1920x1080, but once set it looks insane. Flight controls were mushy and difficult in any setting out of game mode. I landed and took off like a beginner, and there was no way I could have planted an F4U Corsair on a carrier deck with the TV lag. Game mode solved it. The gunsight is the size of a trash can lid when zoomed in - and resolution is superb. I also setup COD World at War, which supports 1080p natively. Sick graphics. There IS ghosting, which cant be avoided in an LCD. The ghosting, IMHO, is not distracting at all in games or movies. I watched WallE in 1080 with my kids the other night and it looks insane. So big with such great res, I noticed all the little things the movie makers hid along the edges of the frame. Wow. I had friends over last night and was setting up scenarios in IL2 for them to fly as noobs. I put them in a Mig15, and let them loose on wings of B-17 bombers with the flight controls just one foot from the screen, and their face just 2 feet from the screen. All were impressed - and one mentioned that if I aileron rolled the Mig like that again I would have to mount a bucket somewhere nearby! :D Buy an old antique buffet table from craigslist to put this thing on, and game away! Matte screen (630 models) is A MUST for gaming unless you want to see your whole living room behind you, and a mirror image of yourself in the middle of your game. Bluetooth kb/mouse also a must since you will be far away. They aren't cheap, but worth it. I got the DiNovo kb and love it. A buddy of mine also mentioned that buying TVs at the END of the year is a good idea since they improve production methods as the year goes on. I picked my B630 (2009 model) up in January 2010 and its working like gangbusters. As for control, I dont use the TV remote unless I'm messing with picture settings. I use my bluetooth kb/mouse and a usb IR receiver/remote to control it. I dont regret it AT ALL. Beautiful addition.

So THIS is what I've been missing...

After weeks of "sorry, we don't have that model in stock yet" from my local electronics retailer, I decided to give Amazon a shot. Good move on my part - we saved $150, Amazon shipped our set out the day after I ordered it, and it was delivered six days later.

I've been reading some iffy reviews about the CEVA delivery service, but our experience was overwhelmingly positive. I had to be proactive and call CEVA to schedule delivery (they sat on the set for a couple of days and I got tired of waiting), but once the appointment was set, everything was as smooth as glass. The TV arrived in great shape and the delivery guy unboxed it, plugged it in to make sure it worked, and hauled away the box. Sweet.

And now, on to the good stuff:

Picture quality: Awesome. We stepped up from a 27" CRT, so this was like opening a door to a whole new world. That being said, don't expect miracles from standard definition programming. The feed from our (standard def) cable box looked OK but a little blocky when we got close to the screen. When we fired up the new Harry Potter DVD through an HDMI connection, the picture was VASTLY improved, even from a standard DVD. Finally, we popped in "Finding Nemo," and WOW. The image filled the whole screen (no black bars) and the picture was stunning, with deep blacks and vibrant, crisp colors. I can only imagine how good HD programming or Blu-Ray will look on this bad boy.

Audio: Just fine for a TV. We have our sound going through a home theater system anyway, so we won't use the TV speakers. We did notice a small sync issue, where the TV's audio arrives a split-second before the picture does. After a little research, I found this is a common problem for LCD/plasma TVs. At any rate, it's almost a non-issue since the delay is so small.

Viewing angle: The picture quality does suffer a bit when you watch from an angle. Dark colors get a little washed out, and blacks seem to get a slight greenish tint. The difference in quality isn't major, though.

Matte screen: Fantastic. One of the main reasons we bought this set since we have a lot of ambient light in the room. It really tones down the intensity of surrounding light sources. Good stuff.

Swivel base: Rocks. I honestly didn't think it would be such a big deal...until I started hooking up our connections. Convenient access to the back panel, the ability to angle the set for better viewing...This feature is like a giant dollop of whipped cream on an already awesome sundae.

Aesthetics: Extremely cool. Don't get freaked out by the red "Touch of Color." It's really very subtle, and adds a nice understated elegance to the set.

Network connection: Haven't used it. Probably won't.

Honestly, the few problems I have with this TV are due to the limitations of LCD and standard def technology, not the quality of the set. Samsung hit a home run with this one.

Awesome picture!

I was initially dubious about making this purchase, as I already have a Samsung 42" DLP HD TV. In the end, I am glad i bought it, even after a side by side comparison with the DLP. The picture flows smoother on this set, sometimes making an older broadcast seem jumpy. Watching a lot of hockey on this set will definitely make the purchase justified

Love this TV

I really love this TV. The matte screen has hardly any glare and the color is always great!

Great price on a great product

Great price thru amazon on a great television with an exceptional picture. Enjoying watching netflix on large screen, easily matches up with samsung blu ray netflix ready player. Will be purchasing another for the bedroom soon.

Great tv at a great price.

This is an amazing tv. It looks beautiful, & the picture is fantastic.
The souund is not great, but it has analog and digital audio outs \, so i just hooked it up to some powered monitors and it sounds great now.
The freight company delivered and set up the tv, they even took my broken old tube tv for $20!
Can't stress enough how happy I am with this purchase.

Great TV, not so great shipping

Absolutely delighted with my new Samsung LN46B630! This is my first LCD HDTV so of course I'm in awe. But still, I can tell quality when I see it. It's wonderful. I particularly like the matte screen. The skylight in our living room is no longer a glare problem.
Amazon was quick to ship yet the delivery was a week later than the "expected delivery" date. Tracking showed that it sat in the last waypoint for a week. I suspect they were waiting for other deliveries going my way. Frustrating when you're dying with anticipation.

46" led

have had this hdtv a bit over a month. picture quality very good. instruction book leaves a bit to be desired. still cannot program PIP. otherwise happy with samsung.

Great budget TV!

This is a great TV for someone who doesn't have many components to attach. Great picture and great deal.

Awesome TV! Great Value, but delivery process needs work

After months of looking, comparing, pricing, I am happy to say, it was worth it. One of the biggest selling features for me was the Matte screen, which was a must for my family room and all it's windows. The contrast ratio was another. We looked at some higher end sony's side by side with this and could'nt believe the difference with this Samsung, and for far less money. After watching the availability of the TV disappear for awhile, I never thought I would get one. I even went to my regional electronics retailer and worked out a great price and ordered one since they could at least give me a delivery date. Then I get the call that they are being discontinued! I checked Amazon one last time out of despair, I was pleasantly surprised! First time I ever used "One-click ordering"! That was on a Sunday with estimated delivery the following Friday.

After ordering, I expected to receive an email a few days later scheduling a time for my delivery; I had taken the "estimated delivery date" off from work so I would be sure to be available. Nothing. After reading previous posts, I looked up CEVA on-line and started punching in numbers off of my Amazon order email to see if I could track the tv. Not sure how, but I pulled up some info that still indicated the same delivery date but it had an incorrect email address for me. Well, it was correct except for it was missing an @ sign!! I called my local hub who did some digging with the number I gave them and said that it was missing a letter on the end, that might have goofed something up. She also said she had sent out an email with info that I never received. I told her I had taken the day off (big deal this time of year in public accounting) for this delivery and was expecting it to happen. She got on the phone and found out that the tv was in the next state and told them to get it to their hub immediately. She then told me it would be delivered by 5 pm the next day (the day I planned) and she would send out an email when it left out for delivery. On delivery day, no call or email, so about 3:30 (unusually patient for me!), I called for a status report. She told me they were out for delivery and that she had sent an email. Sounds like there is a glitch in the ordering process, as someone must have manually typed in my email address instead of pulling everything from Amazon. Nothing every ended up in my spam folder either. About 20 minutes later, the truck pulls up. They unpack the tv, and it falls, screen side down on to my foot! Apparently, the foam holding the tv in the box had come loose. There didn't appear to be any damage (I had him write what happened on his delivery order next to my signature), so we proceeded. They didn't have a screwdriver to assemble the stand so after getting one for them, it was up in no time. Havine been in a truck all day in single digit temps, I new I needed to wait awhile to turn the set on, but was leery to let them leave only to find a bad tv later. Just in case, I kept the box and waited about an hour and a half.

Waiting gave me time to set up my TiVo, home theater, etc. Why would tv makers NOT have a swivel base like Samsung? It makes it so easy to get behind and make the connections. I got everything ready to go, and watched the clock. When it was time, I tripped the power center on, and stood back. Never before did my TiVo set up screen look so good. The screen is incredibly clear, and the glare is minimal with the tv off, which is a huge plus. I have not changed any settings yet, other than to label some of the input devices. Not sure I need to do any fine tuning since things look great now. I had to fire up a dvd(standard def) to see what the picture really looked like. I put in Finding Nemo (previous reviewers gave me the idea) and all I can say is, Holy Crap! My twin 3 year old daughters eyes never looked bigger and my wife said numerous times, "I never noticed that before". This was in standard def, I can't wait to get a blu-ray player to test it out. HD programs look awesome; on short notice I tested it with Mickey Mouse's Clubhouse! With the clarity and depth of this screen, Goofy is a little scary looking. We have even looked at some movies using a USB memory stick. Very cool.

I am very impressed with what I have seen so far and never thought I would enjoy a tv so much. My only compaint (and it's obvious) is with the delivery process.

Love this TV

I bought it from Amazon and was worried about delivery mostly, well the guy called before he arrived and took it out and turned it on to make sure it worked. I love the TV, everything in HD is just amazing to watch and blue-ray movies are great.

Very good TV, incredible price, fast delivery, very happy with the purchase

If you are looking for a good TV at an afordable price this is the one

Amazing TV..Worth every penny !

I bought this TV a few months back. I was contemplating between the LN46B650 and this one. the 650 had internet widgets and was a newer model. This TV as the Infolink RSS reader. Although this was the older model, I went for this one because of the semi-matte screen. It doesn't reflect much light while the 650 model, although had a slightly higher contrast ratio, but it had a glossy screen, which was reflecting a lot of light.

The sound on this TV is really good. I had a Sony 46 inch for 2-3 days, but returned it due to poor sound quality. The picture quality on this TV is amazing, the controls are easy. I would highly recommend this TV.
(February 23, 2010)

Excellent TV

It's a great product. hands down... clarity, speakers(20W), the feel, navigation... I still did not try the infolink or connecting my laptop yet, but played movies using a thumb key.... the best i liked so far...
(February 23, 2010)

Great TV

I recently purchased the Samsung LN46B630 and love the picture quality. This is the second Samsung LCD I have purchased in the last year with the first being a 52". The only downside to the 46" is that the volume control increments are actually too small meaning that it takes a little longer to adjust the volume (i.e. when commercials crank up the sound. The sound quality though is above average. Also, I orginally bought a 40" in lieu of the 46" but found it to be too small for the room I had it in. Amazon had no problem with the return and handled it quickly and efficiently. I had my replacement in a few days.

Excellent Customizable Picture Options,Picture as Good as LED

I bought this TV from Amazon in Feb. 2010. First let me tell everyone about the shipper. Amazon uses a third party Company named Pilot, in the Pittsburgh area. I had to contact them to even get a Delivery date, then they forgot about me. So I ended up getting the TV the next day, that was fine. The company however is not set-up for home deliveriers, they are a commerical Company of heavy operator's of goods and services. They ship things UPS and FEDEX won't. Ok, This Samsung LN46B630 is a great tv. I researched for about a month before I deceided to purchase this Model. You will need 2 people to put the base on properly, it's not as easy as eariler models. It is very sturdy though. It comes with a string, so if you are using the stand, you can anchor it to the wall. Peace of mind knowing it wont go anywhere, I did use this feature cause I have 2 small ones running around the house. Picture quality is top notch. It was set to vivid which I switched to standard along with several adjustments which improved the picture greatly. (I am using it as a monitor, which runs through my Denon AVR4310CI. It has the Anchor Bay Video processing chip which upconverts all signals. It does a great job converting our cable service, Comcast to 1080P. With the vast array of adjustments from the Receiver and the TV, The Picture Quality can Rival some LED HDTV's with ease. Also this is a 120HZ set but runs at 60HZ alot of the time,(You can select between 4 Auto Motion Plus 120HZ options, Off, Clear, Standard, Smooth, Custom & Demo.I have Mine Set to smooth.) When you click the info button, the top let corner tells you picture quality and HZ. I have not noticed much jitter at all, and we watch alot of sports as well as play alot of video games on the PS3, (Which looks like you can step into the picture and join in!) I can say that about cable TV as well, some programs just look to good. I've played Blu-ray's, DVD's and even VHS and all sources were very detailed. It has plenty of inputs 4 HDMI-CEC. Which means they will control your other devices. You select the input for PS3 it will turn it on for you, or shut it off, pretty cool feature. The screen is a matte black, which is alot better since we have a high light living room with lots of windows. On really black scenes, you noticed a little pixel junk. Which I only saw in the lower left corner. It didn't really bother us and is only noticable with a good eye. As far as the sound goes, I'm not sure as we have a HT set-up. So we don't use the audio from the TV-SET. Also this set has Internet capabilities. Samsung calls it info Link, which there is a one touch button on the remote for this feature. You get news, weather and sports. I gave this HDTV 5 Stars because of the great features and ease of use with the remote. As well as an Outstanding Picture Quality, and a Great Price.

excellent picture, beats my Sony Z series

having always been a Sony fan, my first HDTV was a Sony Z Series 1080p 240Hz 100k:1 contrast (a notch below Sony's top of the line XBR series), i took a chance to purchase this Samsung B series priced very competitively. The TV's picture quality, sharpness, color richness, smoothness, quality build etc ... outright beats my pricier Sony. I'm exceedingly pleased, highly recommending this set.

on a less upbeat note, CEVA the "white glove" carrier refused to deliver my TV on the day promised, and could only schedule a delivery 4 days later! I couldn't wait so I drove 45 miles to pick up the set. Amazon acknowledged the problem and issued me a 5% credit.

Beautiful picture, Clarity amazing!

Our new TV is a very special addition to our home. We can't get over how beautiful the picture is. Working with Amazon was a great experience too. Simple and quick...

Excellent HD TV for a great price!

I've been shopping since before Thanksgiving in local outlets and researching sources like Consumer's Report and this Samsung 46" HDTV w/1080 and 120hz is the top rated unit. I ordered this through Amazon and it was shipped timely and flawlessly without any damage. The carrier delivered the unit and set it up in my living room-- took about 15 minutes. The HDTV itself is as advertised and thus far works perfectly with great screen definition, excellent audio and no problems to date. I can't say enough about the quality of the unit and the fantastic price that Amazon offered. No complaints!!
(March 03, 2010)

Very Pleased

We looked around for a TV for quite a few months and are very happy with the TV we have. We have had it mounted on the wall for over a year now and could not be happier. We even considered buying Sony but this Samsung blew it away. The colors are bright and vibrant. Sound is good but we also have a surround sound system that makes it way better. All over a great purchase!
(March 25, 2010)

Just what we expected!

The touch of color is subtle, picture quality is outstanding (Finding Nemo and the Lion King were amazing) and the matte screen is perfect for our brightly lit room. The swivel base is a bonus, viewing angle is great and set up is a snap. We waited for it to go on sale at Amazon. Nobody sells them cheaper than Amazon plus you get free shipping! Ordered it on Monday had it on Friday. Only issue was the freight company gave us a five hour window, from noon to 5 pm, but showed up after 8 pm.

LCD TV

This is a great TV, I got it during the black friday/cyber monday, so it is a good value at those prices. But, now that the LEDs are coming out, the LCDs are a bit of a second class in the top tier. Still, if you can't shell out twice as much, the Samsung 600 line is great. And whatever size TV you are thinking of buying, I say go up one size, it's worth it!
(April 01, 2010)

Great TV

I've had this tv for over a month now & am very satisfied with it.I had my satelite provider update me with high definition reciever. Even the service tech said you can't get a better picture than that. Its clear, got great color,no problem with the sound. The only thing is the PIP that takes a few steps to get to.Wish it was more user friendly.I have the set in my living room with three large windows but no glare.Very happy with my purchase.
(April 01, 2010)

Amazing TV, excellent picture quality!

I've been using this TV for over four months now and I love it. The picture quality, especially when you see High Definition channels, is beyond my expectations. The sound quality of the TV is OK, so I connected my audio system and now the overall set-up is awesome (though it would be better when I have a good home theater system). I also bought Samsung BD-P1600 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player along with the TV and the combination works great. You can have one remote working on both, TV and Blue-Ray player. The News and Weather Update feature on TV is also a plus, but its not something I use very frequently.

TV was delivered well on time, but the guy who delivered didn't fix it well with the guide stand, so my TV was little shaky, but I was able to open and fix it myself without much of an effort after having Samsung deliver me a free replacement guide stand of the TV.

So far so good; I am enjoying it and I would highly recommend it.

Great HDTV

I purchased the Samsung LN46B630 a few weeks ago. I can say that I am thoroughly impressed with the quality of this television. I had been monitoring the price online for a while. When it dipped to just over $1k, I went for it. The 630 is great because of its matte screen (as other reviewers have pointed out). I have two huge bay windows, and it does a nice job of muting any light that can leak through. If you're concerned about getting the 650 because of the few extra features it has, I would say you're better off with this TV. I never use those connectivity features like infolink. I think most users would rather let their cable/satellite/tivo box do the work and just leave the tv as a visual display only. Also, MATTE SCREEN! Way better than the glossy models, unless you have a basement with no windows or something.

The shipping container was very sturdy (and quite cleverly designed). I had no doubts the tv would come out of the box without any damage. Initial setup was easy. I'd like to stress a point here. When the tv asks you whether or not you want it for "Home Use" or "Store Demo", select home use! Somehow, mine got set to store demo. The problem here is that every 30 minutes, the tv refreshes to factory default settings. So if any customer walks by and changes the settings around, they go back. I didn't realize my tv was in store demo mode until I popped in a blu-ray disc. The image quality was terrible! I realized that the auto motion plus was on "Standard" and turned it off. I prefer to leave it off. In cinema, the camera always has a point of focus. With auto motion plus activated, everything gets processed to be in focus. So backgrounds look oddly clear, and there's no real depth of field. Very ugly. Either way, I noticed that the tv kept reverting to store demo. I'll note here that the instruction manual that comes with this tv is not very good. It skims over the most basic things you need to know, but doesn't help you at all when it comes to tv calibration.

I did some googling and found a support forum on samsung's webpage where a technician told another customer how to turn "Store Demo" mode off. For me, I had to hold the exit button down for 10 seconds. This reset the tv and allowed me to return it to "Home Use" mode. One last gripe I have is that the capacitve touch buttons on the front of the tv are very difficult to see. I understand that it wouldn't look very good to have them standing out or lit up while watching tv. However, the obvious solution would be to move the touch buttons to the back/side of the television. I never use them, and I hold my remote doesn't break before I get the chance to purchase a harmony one universal remote from logitech.

Viewing angle is great. I have a couch that runs perpendicular to the TV from a close distance, and even the spot closest to the tv has a good image quality. Video games look fantastic (I use a PS3), and I imagine the image can only get better with proper calibration (which I have yet to do, actually).

All in all, I think that purchasing an LCD at this time was a very prudent move. Plasmas and LED backlit televisions are nice, but the price points are way higher. To me, the cost/benefit ratio is greater with the samsung 6-series. I'll hold onto this one until actual LED televisions (no, not LED-backlit) drop into the price range of the average consumer. Once organic led technology becomes cheaper (which will be years off), I'll most likely be ready for my new HD (or whatever resolution they're promoting then) television.

Samsung is good!

We shopped for a flat screen tv for more than 6 months. We read every review we could find and shopped at all the local retail stores. After all the research, we had narrowed our selection to Sony, LG or Samsung. After visiting a local dealer and listening to the salespersons comments, we chose the Samsung. We chose to purchase from Amazon based on our previous good experience with Amazon and the fact that Amazon offered Samsung extended warranties. I telephoned the warranty service and was impressed with their response, also.
(April 19, 2010)

Picture can't be beat!

This is the second 42" Samsung LCD TV that I've owned, and its picture is even better than the first one! The programs in HD are truly every bit as spectacular as advertised!!!!!

I got a good price (freight free), free setup and two years 0% interest financing by purchasing it through Amazon, and I would recommend it to anyone.
(April 20, 2010)

WOW!!!

I've owned other HDTVs this one is the best I've owned my only regret is that I didn't get the LV46B650 which is basically the same set with a few more features. This set has a stunning picture and 120 Hz. The styling is unique the touch of red disappears in normal room lighting and just looks black the only time you notice it is in sunlight. The base is made of heavy glass and not plastic like most sets it looks and feels like a quality set. The menus are animated and user friendly. I also hooked up a computer to the set and it makes an excellent computer monitor. When it comes to HDTVs the are not all the same this is one of the best. The only thing better would be a LED HDTV with 120 or 240 Hz but for the price this one get my vote. Take my advice stay away from the Vizios (I own one) and proscans (nothing but trouble)of the world they don't even come close to Samsung.
(April 23, 2010)

I love my TV!

I decided to step away from a popular "V-brand" and go upscale for my newest TV, and I'm nothing but thrilled. This is (or was at the time of purchase anyway) the highest model TV sold by Samsung without a gloss screen. If you're getting a glossy screen, why not just get plasma? The LCD in this set is what I would call "mostly matte". It does still pick up reflections, especially if you have a lamp across from it. But for the most part, it's fine in well lit rooms. The picture is excellent for SD and HD, and its ability to play video directly off external flash drives and hard drives is fabulous. (For the geeks: internally it's driven by a customized Linux system and runs MPlayer, as near as I can tell.) Video just works.

A lot of people on AVS complained about input lag with this TV, but I haven't noticed anything while gaming, even in high speed games. There is a "game mode" but it looks fairly awful, so I avoid it. I have had some problems using it as a PC display, as it seems to overscan quite a bit, but under Windows there's an overscan-resistant resolution that is slightly lower than 1080p that seems to work well. Be careful if you want all 1920x1080 pixels, though.

Quality is fantastic, though. It's a nice TV.
(May 15, 2010)

Simply the best

I purchased this TV to upgrade my 2007 Samsung 40" 720p set, and boy what an upgrade it turned out to be. I love all the little upgrades they made to it in that span. Switching between inputs is way easier. The USB port is great for watching content off of a flash drive. The thing looks great even when off. The glass stand is very sturdy, and the clear border looks great too. Not sure what the hoopla is over the touch of red color though. It's barely noticeable, the room has to be pretty much fully lit to notice. The touch panel instead of buttons is a bit impractical too. I've turned the TV off several times just by dusting the front of the TV. Also makes it impossible to adjust the volume in a dark room. But all these things are just minor setbacks considering how great the TV is in itself. Blu-rays look fantastic on this thing, and games on my 360 look great too. I'd highly recommend this set to anyone looking for a great TV around a thousand bucks.

Ten buckaroos out $$$$$$$$$$!!

The reviews on Amazon really helped me choose this model. The other 46" model for another $200(better sound and 100,000 contrast instead of 80,000)more sounds great too, but I have separate sound and did not need it. My friend has one of those models, and it does have the best TV sound I've heard, which includes a subwoofer built-in.

I connected the TV HDMI, Windows7 HDMI, Xbox, PS2, a PsP, and they all look super good. Window7 computer I just built primarily using AMz really looks spectacular on the Samsung 46". You can toggle between computer, Xbox, playstations, over-the-air HD antenna, cable HD, and also do picture-in-picture or picture-by-picture for the selected inputs. Watch a movie and play a video game at the same time(multitaskers!). I was using a Dell 24' HD monitor with the manual switching. The only other real TV I've owned was a monster sized Sony 27" Trinitron TV. Here's a shocker, the delivery man was able to carry this by himself to my door!! For a $999 investment, it's fun to join the folks with real movie theater sound AND picture now.

I think everything looks(stylish) and feels great. The LCD picture is the best I've seen. The black levels during the Laker Phoenix game last night were superb. The court was beautifully lit against the dark seating. The action of the game produced NO visible artifacts or blurring. I paid $800 for the previously mentioned Dell(I love it to), but this seems like the deal of the century compared to the Dell.

My last couple of comments, DVDs and games are WOW factor of ten. Gears of War, Half Lives(any), Stalker, Assassins Creed2(free from AMz with Intel i7-860!), Prey, Far Cry, And Tomb Raider: Underworld look like different experiences. Put a regular old DVD on this, and you will want to watch every DVD in your collection over again!! This TV will make your low-def DVDs look nearly hi-def, seriously. This is definitely the best HD computer monitor, HD game display, and HDTV imagineable.

Samsung 46 Inch LCD TV

Great value when purchased. I was disappointed I could not get high definition but not the TV fault. My TV cable only has 4-5 hi-def channels available but plan to increase this within a year. Good TV after four month's use.
