Reviews of Samsung LN46B530 from Amazon.com

An Excellent Value and Attractive Set

I was originally considering a similar Toshiba set from Crutchfield, but that seemed to be discontinued. This was the next best value. It is a very attractive set and easy to set up and use. In terms of technical specifications, it is clearly not the best big screen set available, but it may be one of the best values available. I personally have not found things like screen refresh rate to be very important for the kind of watching I do, so this set has been more than adequate. It also appears to be pretty reliable, which always helps. I recommend it.

Samsung HDTV

TV does not have the sharp quality that I have seen in the stores. Remote control is difficult to understand. We did a lot of research about which unit to buy...but this TV does not live up to all the hype. Would not buy one again.

Great TV for the Price

I have owned this TV for about 5 months and I am very impressed with this TV and have many good things to say about it. I currently have this TV hanging on my wall and usually watch it at around a 12-foot distance which I believe is a good distance for a 46-inch TV. I am also using this TV as a monitor for a home theater PC which looks just as good as my other computer monitor, if not better. The only reason i didn't give this TV 5 stars is because of the built in speakers

PROS

Matte screen finish (Reduces glare significantly which is a big plus when viewing in a room with lots of windows)

Built-in video up-scalar is awesome (I am always impressed when watching VHS and DVD movies.)

Power Consumption (Only 230 Watts powered)

Weight (Weight without the stand is less than 50 lbs which is light enough for me to lift it onto the wall by myself)

HDMI connections (3 HDMI connections seems plenty enough for the devices I have currently)

60,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio (twice as good as previous model)

CONS

Built in speakers (Speakers started to rattle and buzz after the volume was turned up to around 50. I would defiantly recommend a home audio system if you want to get the full movie experience)

Component video connections (I had to buy a component switch that could handle my component connections from my Wii, Playstation, and DVD player)

Samsung HD T.V.

I purchased the T.V. as a gift for my parents. The price was the lowest I could find. Delivery was within a week of purchase, and the delivery man even helped my 85 year old father set the T.V. up. The picture and sound is incredible. Sharp, clear, crisp picture even if not viewing a High Def station, and when broadcasting High Def, the picture is movie quality. The sound quality is outstanding, even for my 85 year old parents. My parents love their new T.V. I also own a Samsung HD T.V. and would not hesitate to buy another Samsung.

Smsung LN46B530 46-inch 1080 LCD HD

This is an excellent HDTV. The picture quality is better if you have HD programing. The sound is excellent.
The only thing bad about the HDTV is there is only one set of rca jacks for your DVD player or satellite dish.
That can be fixed with a box from your local Walmart store for just a few dollars. I would highly recommend this HDTV to anyone who is in the market for a new tv. It is well worth the price. I give this HDTV a AAA+++.

Wonderful, Love it

Could not ask for a btter picture! Even the delivery man was so helpful with setting it up, very courteous. Since I am 77 years old I really appreciated his help. I would definitely recommend this product.

Best buy for the price ($879)

After buying and trying out 3 similarly priced and sized lcd screens (different brands) this one was the best. Attractive design, easy to use, picture is great. Had the least amount of backlight bleedthrough of sets tested which was pretty important to me since I mostly watch it at night with all the lights out. Don't skimp on sound, get a home theater system. Sound on this tv is fine for regular television shows, what more would you expect from such small speakers?

Outstanding value

I bought the LN46540 for Christmas for our 12'x16' family room after weeks of showroom comparisons with Sony, LG, Philips, etc. It appeared to have the clearest picture and most vibrant color. I was a little concerned about what I read in some on-line reviews about sound quality or initial picture quality. My fears were unfounded. It took less than 30 minutes to hook up our DirectTV and PS3. The sound was fine. The picture did not require adjustment. We upgraded from a 55" Mitsubishi projection TV that had died. We now count its demise as a blessing! Now we can read all of the tiny credits at the end of a movie. Video game clarity is amazing. The Hi-def TV broadcasts render detail that we have never seen before. The size for this room is perfect. Considering an expected life-expectancy of at least 4-5 years, I think spending a few extra dollars for Samsung is worth the investment. Oh, and the touch of color is subtle, very classy esthetically. My entire family is pleased, and I am now a hero!

Great TV for the price

This is my second HDTV and I love it. So easy to setup and very clear picture. I know some other complaining about the sound of the TV but I am satisfied with the sound. I don't expect home theater sound out from this TV. It has good quality sound. For the price it is very worth it.

Great Buy Awesome tv

This was my first flatscreen and im really impressed with it. In fact it was cheaper then the 32 inch of the same brand. We got such a good deal we couldnt pass it up. Shipping took a while but it was around the holidays.

Samsung 46 Inch LCD HDTV

I am a single mom of two tech savy teenagers. At first I was overwhelmed by the numerous makes and models of all the LCD HDTV's. I'm so glad that my research paid off. My kids and I love the picture quality and the superb sound that this tv has. An educated consumer is a smart consumer and also makes for a very happy family!

Just Perfect...

I bought this tv to hang on my brick fireplace. It is the perfect size for the room and I love the picture. Clear, sharp and gorgeous color. Super easy to set up (took me less than 5 mins to have it up and running). The delivery was on time, very friendly personnel, and the scheduled delivery was the nicest feature...I didn't have to leave work early, it was delivered on my schedule. Just the perfect last touch to my remodel! And the price was the best I found anywhere...including Walmart and Sam's. Let's just say I am pleased all around with this purchase.

Recommend this TV

I had been saving for my intro to the HDTV world for a good 18 months. I originally was going with a 40" TV and was eyeing a Sony, the KDL 40S4100 (then replaced by 40S5100). I later decided I would put the TV in a different room and was looking at 46" TV's. Once settling on the 46" size, and with my budget, I wanted an inexpensive one that still looked crisp but maybe didn't have all the features I wasn't using before anyway with standard TV. I expected to automatically go with the 46" version of the Sony model I was set on. After looking at the TV's in stores though, the Samsung LN46B530 stuck out as the best color and crispest picture of the TV's in its price range/feature range. The Sony appeared somewhat dull colored next to this Samsung in stores, though it seemed to depend what store I was in and how they were hooked up. My brother has the LN46B650 with has the 120hz, but I didn't want to spend the extra $400. I took my chances with the LN46B530 and 60hz.

I have had this TV for about a month now and have no complaints. I had it for about a week before getting the HD receiver and was worried I would be disappointed even once HD was hooked up, but it really is night and day.
I mostly watch sports on it, and mostly hockey for sports. I haven't seen hockey on a 120hz vs. 60hz next to each other so I don't have anything to compare to, but I don't feel like I am missing anything with watching sports on this 60hz. I read some reviews on this TV where they had some issues with some inputs, etc., but I have not experienced any problems whatsoever (yet, only had it 1 month).

One feature I like about it is the swivel feature since my room is setup where some seats don't have a real direct angle to the TV. It was easy to setup very quickly. If I were to wall mount this, I suppose the lack of any side inputs would be a negative, but I was not wall mounting it.

Simply Perfect

I purchased this Samsung 46" LCD TV from amazon.com and once again amazon keeps its promise of prompt, efficient and quality service. Shipping was two days late because of 3rd party carrier but amazon refunded me $48 shipping charges despite the shipping was free to begin with. Amazon does care about customer satisfaction and once again they have proved to me that they are willing to go extra miles to make sure I remain a loyal amazon customer that I am. This samsung TV is bang for the bucks I paid. Excellent architecture, great picture quality, and easy to setup. Updated the firmware from [...] without any problems. I had a laptop with a dead LCD screen but the VGA port worked just fine. I setup my laptop for windows media center environment in my bedroom and setup was a breeze. Recognized my laptop with a VGA cable and the auto picture setup from the VGA source is totally awesome. I looked at Visio Brand products in costco and I was amazed to see how many returned Visio products [...] receives daily. Samsung televisions are rated best in LCD picture quality and surprisingly the price for the television with identical specs was cheaper than Visio. In fact samsung has a 60,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio as compared to 35,000:1 on a Visio Brand. I would highly recommend this television to anyone who is looking for a inexpensive entry level quality Flat screen LCD TV.

like it so far

We just got the tv yesterday and so far I like it a lot, the picture is a little bit blurred in some channels but that is because we do not have cable so we do not have hdtv.As far as the speakers go, I think they are great, at least by my standards. The sound can get pretty loud and still clear at half of its volume, so to me they sound very good. Initially, after reading the reviews I thought I would need to buy a surround sound system, but I am not going to now. When connected to my laptop, the tv has a great picture and I use it to watch music videos through youtube. It sounds and looks great. I think it is a great buy all in all.

46" Paradise... Almost Perfect HDTV

This will be my 3rd HDTV purchase as somehow I have been unofficially designated the HDTV guru of my friends and family. I have done ALOT of research (about 3 years worth). I have become quite familiar with the HDTV market and various HDTV brands and what they offer, pros and cons of each etc.

FYI:
Right now is probably the best I have ever seen the HDTV market for purchasing a HDTV set.

Amazon is by far the best source to make your HDTV purchase decision for several reasons.
1. Reliable Customer Service
2. No Sales Tax
3. Extended premium warranties are by far better and cheaper than at the brick and mortar stores.
4. Customer Reviews are extrememly helpful as people that have already purchased the TV may point something out you may not have thought about.
5. Free Shipping

My Previous Purchases (All Purchased from Amazon):
1. Sony KDL-40V2500 (For myself)
2. Sony KDL-40S5100 (For a friend)(contacted sony and had them send be a USB flash drive (for free) with the firmware update preloaded and have not had any problems since)
3. Samsung LN46B530 (For my grandpa)(Does NOT have Red touch of color as I think that feature is ugly)
4. I have setup and installed countless other HDTV's for friends and family members that I did not purchase.

But enough about that, lets take a look at the Samsung LN46B530 shall we?
PRICE WAS AWESOME, Under $850 for a 46" 1080p Samsung?? Where do I sign?!
Out of the box impression is quite normal, packaging is plentiful and the TV is well protected for shipping. The panel itself is NON-REFLECTIVE which is great. For those of you who may not have thought about it, most HDTV's are insanely polished and look great in the store, however when you get home what happens is that window or lamp is making a glare in the middle or half the screen. Beleive me, it may not be that big of a deal at first, but after a while day after day after day it really becomes annoying.

One thing I did notice is the power cord that comes with the TV is NOT very long, maybe 5.5 - 6ft tops. No worries, all you have to do if you need a longer power cord is go here:
Belkin 12ft AC Replacement Power Cord (AC Male to AC Female) And it will work just fine.

The TV stand that comes with it is nice and sturdy and swivels from side to side. There are no side inputs on the TV, however the TV controls are on the lower right hand side of the TV which is nice if you either wall mount or use the provide stand. Comes in handy if you can't find the remote. Conversely, on some TV's the buttons are on top of the TV which could create headaches if the TV is wall mounted.

Keep in mind that this TV is shiny everywhere except the screen so dusting will be a weekly chore to keep it looking nice. Remember, DO NOT use windex or alcohol or soap and water to clean off the viewing screen. A soft cotton cloth LIGHTLY dampened with just a little water cleans the screen just fine. There are HDTV cleaner solutions but I would recommend against it. The TV does come with a small microfiber dusting cloth, this is also ideal to use, however, keep it dry. The shiny surfaces surrounding the TV are fingerprint magnets.

Contrary to other reviews, I found the TV's internal speakers to be satisfactory and without buzzing even at maximum volume. Granted the TV doesn't have much bass but I didn't really mess with the volume settings much. Of course a surround sound system is the best option, but if you don't have surround sound it really isn't that big of a deal.

Standard Definition channels look the best I have ever seen in a HDTV. I wasn't really expecting much since this is a 46" HDTV so I figured SD viewing would be slightly painful, of course I was pleasantly surprised. I did read a review that said that the TV has an internal upscaler but I was unable to produce any evidence of this via amazon or samsungs official site specifications. The TV DOES have an internal ASTC tuner that allows the TV to receive and decode DTV transmissions from your local TV stations via the air waves via "rabbit ear antenna".

HD of course is phenominal, I was never really able to tell much difference between 60HZ and 120HZ, certainly not a justifyable cost to be sure IMO.

One gripe I have on this TV is the lack of inputs. Sony seems to be king in this department in my experience. It has plenty of HDMI inputs (3) however there is only 1 component and 1 composite. Certainly you can buy component and composite switches to expand input capacity but of course that is just one/two more things you have to deal with. Nowadays just about everything is HDMI anyways so it is probably a non-issue in your case.

Overall considering the cost and the fact super-saver shipping only took 2 days to deliver, I give this TV 4.8 stars. Minus .2 for lack of plentiful component and composite inputs.

A stellar HDTV for the price

This is my 4th HDTV in the house. First was a Syntax Olevia LCD, next was a Pioneer Elite Plasma, next was a Vizio LCD, and finally this. The picture quality is simply amazing, a very close second to the Elite (a top-tier professional level plasma TV). I'm amazed with the quality I get on this through HDMI for my Xbox 360, as well as the HDMI/VGA ports for my pc. A wonderful picture. Poor quality speakers, but it's not really a big issue. Overall, a great TV for the money. I'm amazed I paid only $100 more than I did for my old Syntax Olevia four years ago, which was 20 inches smaller.

EDIT: also wanted to comment that the free, scheduled delivery was top notch and very on time.

Excellent

We were very happy with our Samsung 46 inch 1080p LCD HDTV. It was exactly what we were looking for and the price was very good. We were very pleased with the service we received-It was here in a very short time and it was up and running right away. We just could not believe it. The picture and color is very clear. We love it. It was a great fit.
(February 19, 2010)

As advertised

So far I am really pleased with this TV. It sits above a smaller tube TV on my entertainment center, which I once thought had a good picture. What a difference! Very clear/crisp. Sound is good. Can't beat the price for something like this.

Amazing Olympics!!

Found this TV by accident at Walmart the Saturday after black Friday (they didn't sale all of them). The price was right in my budget of less then $800. THE best decision I could have made. As of after the first of the year I have not seen any price near this price again. (see the last paragraph)

Take your time and adjust the picture. I first left it at factory settings then I played around with it and found that the best pic I got was playing with the brightness and contrast.

The picture is fantastic, even my wife made a comment on it! The Olympics have been amazing!!!! I am using HDMI cables for my Blu-Ray(also Samsung but that's another review) and Directv. I have been blown away with the clarity of the HD channels. Especially the National Geographic, Discovery and the likes.

One thing to keep in mine I have Directv and not all HD channels broadcast the same HD resolution. By pushing the tools button on the remote it shows you the current resolution of the station. Which is a nice touch.

About Walmart. They really don't like to price match. But I saw my TV price cheaper at a competitors store. So I took the ad in and after calling the manager they matched the price. Bout a week later I saw it drop again, this time they told me they only price match for two weeks. So I asked "what is the return policy" he told me 90 days. I had the box at home and made him an offer, "price match this new price ($36 less) or I will return the TV for a full refund and buy it at the competitors store". They matched the price!!! Makes this TV even sweeter!!

Perfect 1080P 46" TV at an affordable price!

Just received this TV through Amazon and delivered by Pilot Services and can't say that I am not 100% satisfied! I had to upgrade the DirecTV converter and what an amazing picture. I rented a few Blu-Ray movies and that, combined with the updated converter, improved my viewing experience. One thing that some have mentioned is the poor sound from the TV. I didn't experience that at all. I still need to hook up my Onkyo receiver and expect much better sound, but the standard speakers are sufficient to most that buy this TV. Although it is 60Hz, I have yet to notice any notable degradation or TV flicker. All in all, what a great deal for $826!!! Bravo, Samsung!

BTW -- I have a 1080P projector in the media room room in the basement with a 96" white screen and I would say the picture is comparable for much less cost.

A++++++ buy from Amazon!

Samsung + Amazon = Perfection!!!

I just have to bow down when it comes to the service Amazon provides! Their customer service, product and benifets are second to none! I purchased this t.v. for my girlfriend after going to every store in town. I don't live in a large city but you know, walmart/sams club/best buy/sears. As always, Amazon crushed them. They beat the price of the tv by $60.00 alone. Then you factor no tax and free shipping... Its a no brainer! The only hold up I had with the whole transaction was with Polit. I missed their phone call the first time so it took an extra week for delivery to my area. Amazon refunded an extra $40 for the delay! Wow! I just can't thank them enough! Who else would do that? As for the tv... Its a Samsung! I feel they make one of the best LCD's on the market. Have no worries this 530 series is gorgous!!! We hooked it up last night to HD cable via HDMI and (BAM) flawless picture! I have a Panasonic Plasma 50" S1 series. I love it also. Its a hard choice really between the two. I think the black levels and contrast are nicer via plasma, but the Samsung LCD has more pop! Brigher colors! Anyways, have no worries about this tv, there is no gamble here... As for Amazon, they are THE BEST. Sign up for prime, sit back, and enjoy making the best decision you possibly could have!

Enjoy!

Just a great tv

It's been a little over a week ago when this tv arrived. I had HDtv programming and when I watch even the local news at night I am amazed. I want to watch everything. I am finding that several places have dropped the price to the mid 800-900 range so its a good competative price for a Samsung. Look...its a solid tv. I poured over everthing reading everything I can find. Setting aside all the technical mumbo jumbo I am well satisfied with my purchase. I think you would to. Luckily the new Samsung 3D tvs recently announced don't detract from this tv. Those are still way way more expensive and you will need to by 3d glasses seperate. I just wanted a great looking picture and a brand to back it up so I know the tv will last as long as I want to keep it.
(March 12, 2010)

Great TV for the price!

Great specs, great size, great look and functionality. Couldn't beat this deal for the product. It is a perfect fit for our needs.
(March 22, 2010)

Great Value

Finally decided on this model after extensive research. Decided to save the $200-250 difference between the 60HZ and 120HZ. Cannot tell any difference when watching golf or Fox news, but did notice a slight blurr when watching some NCAA basketball, and the players were moving fast. My conclusion would be if you are in to "fast action" you may want to spend the extra for the 120HZ. For me, it is not that important. By all means, buy a Samsung, they are by far the better picture. And buy from Amazon. They have the best price, always in stock, and the delivery is quick and easy. Be prepared to spend more money with Direct TV, or your provider. The HD signal is superb, but they are sure proud of it. Be prepared to spend miniimum $20 more per month.

Great TV for a low price

After our old faithful tube TV died, we searched for the best HDTV for the best price. With a large selection at chain stores and on the web, we were amazed how many offered the same TV's at very different prices. The chain stores had higher prices, but no shipping cost. On the web, some low prices caught our attention, but the high shipping cost turned us away. Amazon offered this very high quality TV at the best price with the lowest shipping cost. Setup was easy and with our Samsung HDTV, we don't miss old faithful at all! Thank you, Amazon.
(March 27, 2010)

ok

The tv is good, but doesn't compare to the picture of my midrange Vizios. Wish I would have spent the extra $$ for a Vizio.
(March 28, 2010)

poor clarity

I bought the tv last week, and i have to say i'm pretty disappointed with the tv.Looks wise,it's just perfect.Price is pretty good too.Butwhen it comes down to the clarity of the tv,in Standard definition,it's below average at best.can't even compare it to my old sony wega CRT.I even upgraded my comcast cable to HD,hoping to get a better clarity and even the HD is blurry. The sound is actually pretty good .I can't expect too much from a tv anyway. And the three HDMI ports are more than enough. Those people who complain about this could easily get a cheap spliter.
Inanycase,i wanted to return the TV,but because i bought it from an amazon affiliate,i am stuck with it.I didn't know about their no refund policy. My sujjestion to people is,to only buy from Amazon.Return is a breez with no questions asked.Hope this helps guys

Wonderful TV for the price - Can't be beat

I paid about $1100 for this TV last year and I have never looked back on it as a bad purchase. I believe they can be bought on sale for about $600-650 now.

The panel is beautiful, the styling is sleek (it's A SAMSUNG!), the contrast is wonderful, and the menu is decent.

I bought 2 Sony panels which both failed before settling on this set. It has been wonderful since purchase.

Since then I've got another Samsung panel and now 2 23" Samsung Monitors as well. Samsung is where it is at if you are looking to purchase a TV - spend the extra money and get yourself something quality that will last you a good long time!

I would recommend Samsung to a friend, family member, and any random person walking on the street. Their panels are the best. PERIOD!
