Reviews of Samsung LN40B650 from Amazon.com
Amazing TV!
I love this television! I did about a week of research before committing to this purchase. Amazon had the cheapest price and the best shipping deal. Concerning features this TV does not disappoint. With its crisp picture, fantastic colors and deep blacks everything we watch is miles beyond what we were used to. I'd say the DLNA feature is the best part of this TV. I have it connected to our home network and any show I have downloaded on my computer can be brought up through the tv's built in menu. Over all... GREAT buy!

Samsung TV
This is not my first Samsung TV that I have purchased. It is my first that I purchased as a gift for someone. The person who has received the TV says that it is fantastic. As a personal Samsung TV owner I totally agree with this. No problems with delivery, all was well right out of the box. Delivered on time and is thoroughly being enjoyed by the owner.

PERFECTO
I did my research, ordered this product and it is perfect. It was delivered 2 days after I ordered it and has a wonderful picture.
This was the best price I could find and Best Buy wouldn't even match it.

much more than a TV
Great Unit, this is what I like about it:
1. it has a great image quality,
2. great contrast ratio
3. It plays avi and mkv videos directly from an usb port, (portable hard drive or usb flash memory)
4. the red trim makes it very atractive
5. it can connect wireless with the extra dongle.
Cons:
1. hard to see the buttons in the unit. (not the remote)but at the same time this makes it look more elegant so it is not a big con.

good tv with minor faults
This is a preliminary review as I just got this tv a week ago. We all know the good, so I'll just list the annoying things about it.
1) seems very slow to react to buttons on remote.
2) At full volume, while certainly loud enough for a decent sized room, not very loud. (I would say my old Panasonic was 50% louder at max volume)
Well, that's it!

Great HD TV. Great service from Amazon.com
The Samsung LN40B650 HDTV meets full expectations. Was a little worried about the red "touch of color," but it is hardly visible and actually adds a little to the good looks. Delivery was on-time and very smooth. Initial set-up took just a few minutes. Samsung makes a great product -- Amazon is a great place to buy.
This particular model has everything that anyone could want, with the best of quality.
Since I use cable for the signal feed, I can't comment on the off-the-air r.f. front-end. Maybe someday I'll hook it to an antenna just for a trial. If so, I'll ammend this review.

Samsung LN40B650 HDTV
I love my new TV. It is the second Samsung I have purchased and will continue buying Samsung TV's in the future. The picture is great and I am enjoying all the extras. I was not too happy with the delivery service provided in Rhode Island. They didn't want to take it out of the box and plug it in to see if it worked. I told them that if they didn't make sure it worked, that they could just take it back.

Very satisfied
I'd been looking for a second TV for quite a while, and researching different options. Liked the Sony models a lot, but also liked the Samsungs. This model has great color saturation, and a number of nice features that allow you to connect to web content such as You Tube. Samsungs have gotten criticism, probably deserved, for their sound quality in the past. However, in comparison to earlier models Samsung appears to have improved the sound. I think Sony still has the edge on sound, but on the other factors I felt this was equal or superior in quality, and I got more value for the price. Perfect size for a bedroom TV if you have the room. I bought this through Amazon Overstocks and was very satisfied with the unit and the delivery. The description said minor blemishes to the housing but I've yet to find one, and the discount factor over the regular Amazon price was significant.

Very nice picture...BUT
I purchased this TV because of the GREAT reviews here at Amazon & other websites. Only 1 thing, and a warning to everyone considering this TV. After owning this for less than 10 months, it started powering on & off after being on for 3-4 hours. I spoke to Samsung Customer Service, was told to reset the TV, unplug it from the surge protector I was protecing it with & plug directly into an outlet. In less than 1 week the situation got worse, so that it performed its on-off routine in 1.5 hours of being on. I Googled the problem, and found out that many were complaining of the same issue, and that these TV's are fitted with a bad power supply. Thank goodness it was still under factory warranty, as the service people came & took it in to replace the power supply (which, by the way has taken more than 2 weeks).
It seems this problem has affected ALL Samsung LCD models, from 30" up to 50". The service guys actually told me to be sure I had an extended warranty, as even though Samsung has updated the power supply software, they could not assure me that this won't happen again.
In the meantime, I am stuck without my beautiful TV for the 3rd Sunday in a row without being able to watch football on the big secreen. What a bummer! We asked what brand TV do they have to service less--Sony! Too bad we didn't spring for a bit more money & buy that one.
Hopefully, this trip to the service people will solve the problem, but it's very worrisome that
a new TV would go bad in such a short time. From what I have read while researching the problem, a lot of folks had this happen to them after their 1 year manufacturer's warranty was already up.

Excellent picture quality, slow remote
I have owned this tv for almost 3 months now and I am completely satisfied with the picture quality. I have to admit that I had to change the picture settings before I could achieve the best picture quality. The only reason I have given this tv 4 star is because of the slow remote control operation. Samsung markets this tv with internet widgets but accessing and playing around with the widgets is so slow that soon you will give up. Other remote operations are very slow as well.
Overall I am satisfied with this TV. Great value for the money.

Everything went well. Delivery was on schedule with the TV mounted on its base. I had no difficulty making the connections and am very pleased with the picture, especially for the HD channels.

Samsung HiDef The Best
Great HiDef TV..... Easy set up, lots of features but two complaints.......One I can't register this product with Samsung. I entered the serial number several times and the Samsung site keeps rejecting it and yes I am checking and doing it all correctly. Next complaint is that Amazon is not currently registering this Samsung for its Video On Demand. It will soon (They Say) and that is a good and wanted feature...... I love the 2 USB ports as they are very useful and Samsung has a computer connector and I have connected my Gateway and use it as my monitor. Easy to switch and easy to learn, scan, do things with.... A great and easy remote. In all this is what I thought it would be and more....... Lightweight too and the picture something else.....
Now if I could register the dam thing with Samsung and Amazon would get that Video On Demand capability it would be perfect.......

Awesome TV, but the Internet Widgets are SLOW
This TV has a great picture quality that is crisp and clear. From my research, it seemed that a complaint about this TV was that the glossy screen is prone to glare. I find this not to be the case. I have had literally no glare on my TV, unless I sit at a very awkward angle. The 120hz does take a little getting used to. I'd say that most tv shows now look more life-like, more like a home video taken with a consumer camcorder. But for sports, it's definitely better to see all the action cleanly as it happens, and not as a blur. As many others have mentioned, the speakers are in the rear of the TV, so the sound is a bit hard to hear and not the best. But the sound is decent enough that I am fine without a home-theater system.
The only complaint to make about this TV is the internet widgets. They are WAY TOO SLOW! If you have many widgets installed and press the button to activate, they take a long time to load up before they are ready to use. Using them is also a drag. I've tried the YouTube widget and there is too much of a lag to make the experience anything but pleasant. So basically what I have to say is don't buy this TV just for the widgets, but for the picture quality.

Massive Positives, Big Negatives But still a winner
Just as many of you have spent plenty of time researching your purchase I did too, almost two full months. I'm sure if your anything like me you've already read the reviews so I won't bore you with stuff you already know. Secondly, I'm very particular about my electronics. I pick them apart early and learn everything about them. After two solid weeks of deliberation, back and forth, testing, tweaking, and retesting I am happy to say I've decided to keep it and here's why in all its detail, both my likes and dislikes.
Best reasons to buy this TV:
1) First and foremost this TV has AMAZING picture quality when set correctly.
2) Superb contrast! Deeply detailed blacks (Caveat) and clear bright whites = AMAZING PQ!
3) 120hz processing! I know some have said it's a gimmick, but I guarantee you I won't ever buy another TV without it. What you will find is that some programming is better seen with it on while some are better seen without it and still others will be better half half, but that will be up to you to decide. 120hz processing has a 3D effect that it is awe inspiring when seen with select HD programming. When you have it on I can't think of any other way to describe it other than what others have called "hyper real." It's a must have in my book.
4) Clean & crisp as a computer monitor but ONLY through HDMI @ 1080P (with a caveat.)
5) Very sleek design. The red is not very noticeable and even when it is it still looks great.
6) You can upgrade your firmware via USB drive and Samsung just released a new one NOV.
Other pluses:
1) The remote design is pretty good. It is sleek black, easy in the hand, and is backlit.
2) Glass stand swivel is something I didn't think I needed but has come in handy.
3) Plenty of picture adjustments and each source remembers its own separate settings.
4) Quiet, there is zero buzz noise like my outgoing LCD.
Reasons not to buy this TV:
1) Huge smearing Problem. Took me two full weeks to realize I wasn't the only one. It really only makes itself shown under certain circumstances but can be reduced by adjusting some picture settings. Here is an example I recorded.
[...]
I was going to return it just because of this, but after working around it I am willing to give a little bit, because it only happens during fast, dark scenes with certain colors and when it does happen it's not TOO bothersome. I'm a gamer and 75% of the reason I bought this was to game better and I'm somewhat satisfied.
2) Slow on screen menu. Its painful sometimes how unresponsive it can be.
3) Here is my caveat for the computer display. Everything is super sharp until you get certain color text on certain color backgrounds. There are too many variables to explain here but red text is the biggest offender.
Macro shot down to the pixels on my display of the problem here.
[...]
Keep in mind those are single pixels that are shot really close up and magnified.
4) This is my caveat for the good black levels. After researching online via forums galore I came across something interesting that some people call a "Panel lottery." Apparently, Samsung out sources some of the work to other panel manufacturers and some have "bluish blacks." If mine had this I would return it immediately. I think if you are interested in buying one I recommend doing some research on this.
Other small dislikes:
1) I have tried contacting Samsung via email and their responses were not helpful and slow to get back. I have not tried to call them.
2) The shiny bezel is a dust magnet. I constantly clean it because it looks so much dustier than everything surrounding it.
3) VGA is not an option as a PC connection. Absolutely, invest in a DVI to HDMI cable/dongle.
4) Buttons on the TV itself are touch sensitive and are hard to see and press.
Other thoughts:
1) With all these different adjustments take your time to find your perfect settings and write them down somewhere.
2) I registered mine online with Samsung and they extended my warranty by 3 months
3) The screen is slightly glossy and WILL reflect direct light. But, it helps with the black levels.
P.S. I will post this on a few other places so don't be shocked if you see it elsewhere.
Hope this helps!

Extremely satisfied
I did a lot of checking and comparing before ordering this unit. I was using a Samsung 32 inch LCD from five years ago which cost $2800(!) and thought it was time to upgrade finally. I couldn't be happier 10 days after the B650's arrival. I needed to delay shipment after placing my order so I could alter the cabinet where it sits. Amazon delivery was within one hour of the promised time two weeks later. And that is ON TIME in New York City on a rainy day during the Christmas season. Perfect. I set it up on the stand easily, plugged in the HDMI cable from my set top HD cable box, plugged in the power cord, plugged in the component video and audio in cables from my old DVD player, turned it on, picked the Source on the remote- and IT WORKS. I haven't cracked open the manual or done anything with any set up controls- why bother when the picture and sound are so astoundingly good. I am sure that I can do some neat things with the set up alternatives, but it doesn't seem necessary to me. My wife and I can barely believe we are watching broad cast HDTV. The movies look like live performances and are crystal clear with perfect color.
I recently hooked up a new Blu-Ray DVD through the unit with an HDMI cable and that is fantastic also. I set the Blu-ray up for 1080p and it is stunning.
I am happy with what I paid for the unit, for the ease of set up, for the picture quality and sound- so what else matters? Thank you Samsung.

So far, so fine *
Improvement to my Samsung LN-T2653H ~ in size, picture quality, & sound (30w vs 10w)
No dead pixels ~ the view contrast ratio is fine ~
Improved remote control layout and system ~
Rotating stand is helpful ~
Stand & color (hardly noticable) problem w/ cnet ~ not with Me *
Problem points ~ glossy screen, from what I understand is a "double-edge" sword ~ improves pictures quality, with the penality of a, mirrored finish ~ it's not that bad, when properly positioned, in a moderately lite room ~
TV touch contols ~ need to be visible ~ there's an easy work around ~ though ~ simply label the controls ~
Also ~ Phone CEVA ~ once prodded ~ the service is "clock work"
If not ~ "rip van winkle service" isn't pretty ~

Great TV, Amazon lied about delivery
The TV is great! Excellent picture and sound. Lots of inputs for different types of devices (HDMI, computer input, component inputs, etc.). The user interface is pretty good. It's very easy to find most functions and operate them. Also, it gives you the ability to turn off all the features that consumers think they want, but which make the picture look much worse, such as motion estimation/compensation, over-sharpening, etc. You can set them to your liking or turn them off.
Unfortunately, Amazon completely dropped the ball on delivery. I ordered it on Black Friday and was told I would have it by the following Tuesday. This was a blatant lie. What actually happened was they shipped it to a local delivery company on Tuesday. On Tuesday, the company called me to set up a time to deliver it to my house. The earliest opening they had was the following Saturday. So a product that was promised in 4-5 days actually took 8-9 days to be delivered. Amazon was fully aware that they were not delivering the product directly to me. They claimed that the local delivery company would contact me ahead of time to schedule delivery to my home. When I hadn't heard from them by Monday, I called them and they were annoyed that I was calling about a product that they hadn't received yet, and wouldn't schedule a time until they had received the item first. All-in-all it was a horrible delivery experience.

Outstanding TV
I am very happy with my purchase of this TV. I am very careful when it comes to handing my money out. I just love the picture and the flexability of the TV. I watched the Super Bowl and thought the sharpness of the picture was outstanding.

Excellent TV, Amazon the Best, DELIVERY THE WORST
Perfect TV, Good Price, Amazon Service is excellent.
The Delivery is not good at all. Because it is free it should not be bad. The freight company that delivers in the Miami FL area is the worst. This is the second time I tried buying the TV. The first one I ordered them to return it since they were going to deliver 3 days after the promised day (promised for 12/23 and wnated to deliver after Christmas). This time it was the same, even thought the freight company receives the item locally they say that they do not have drivers, and they hold the product in their facility two or three days!!!!
I was about to return it again, but I called Amazon and they realized that this was the second time, and they called the freight company and Magically they could deliver that same promised day.
AMAZON fire the transportation company in Miami FL!

This one does everything on the describtions. I just have one complaint. The execution of widgets are VERY VERY slow, but I do internet with my computer not with the widgets. Not a big deal. So far, I love it.

AWESOME TV!
Buddy had the 650A model. I waited for over a year and a half til TV prices dropped than the 650 b model cam out and I grabbed it up.
All I can say is AWESOME.
HD is Pristine & Standard is still very good.
I'm glad I waited for prices to drop and got this.
I don't use all the extra widgets and what not so can't comment on them.
Only minor thing that is just OK about this TV is that sound is a little tinny. But hey, who buys this kind of TV and doesnt have surround sound or buy a sound bar anymore.....
Highly Recommended!!!!!

Poor Customer Service
These comments are directed towards Samsung only and not at Amazon. I received a TV which had a bad speaker. As instructed I called Samsung customer service. The long and short of the story is that during a 10 day exchange of phone calls, all Samsung did to resolve my problem was to send me out new "firmware" for my TV!! Twice!! Even when it didn't work the first time!! New firmware to fix a broken speaker!! Amazon worked with me immediately to replace the TV once they knew of the problem but I am very doubtful I will ever buy a Samsung product again due to their very poor customer service.

Outstanding picture and performance-Reasonable price
I am amazed with this HDTV. The clarity of the picture is excellent, I had no problem setting the TV. The sound is clear and no background noise. It is a bargain for the options it has. I had no problem with Samsung products. Quality and affordable prices. It is Highly recommended

GREAT (when it is working)
The picture is absolutely fabulous - when it is working. I have had mine less than 6 months and had to replace the panel once already, and am waiting for repair guy to come AGAIN because the picture is now showing bright green pixelation in any area where contrast changes (much of the screen most times). When everything is working as it should it is the best picture i've seen on any flat screen tv, BUT... while I'm not a big fan of extended warranties, I would recommend one in this case. I bought mine from Sears and they have been good about honoring the warranty & coming for repairs, but don't expect this TV to be problem-free.

Fantastic Television!
Samsung is definitely the brand to buy and they have proven it to me again with this TV. I have owned it now for 10 months and it has been fantastic watching anything on this TV. The remote and menus are easy to use and it looks great even without tweaking any settings. I own 2 Samsung monitors and all their displays have been great for me. I definitely recommend this TV.
