Reviews of Samsung LN40B630 from Amazon.com

Size matters...

We got this Samsung 40" LCD to replace our 10 year old TV. Wow. We love everything about it. It's very elegant and looks great in the living room. It's thin, so you get more space in a crammed NYC apartment. The picture is superb! Love it

I have had this tv for 3 weeks and ....

it has exceeded everything that I could have hoped for. The picture is perfect and the sound from the
tv is above average. I picked up this tv from Best Buy for $899. The 80,000:1 resolution is what sold me. Compare to a Sony, and there is no comparison. Oh and the 120HZ is two thumbs up.
(October 11, 2009)

WOW great tv

Image looks like people are right in front, great real images, very natural, I paid us$ 883.00 with a free blue ray, so it does not get any better. I feel like buying a 2nd one to replace my Sony Lcd Bravia.

Samsung HDTVs are the way to go....

This television is an HDTV LCD model has the quality of almost the new LED models. Great bargain for an 40inch television. Picture quality is even enhanced when you have HDTV signals. Can play .wmv, .avi files right from the flashdrive so you can watch the movies that are originally on your computer and view them on this big screen. Touch of Color- red makes this unique and different from other standard televisions. not too heavy either.

Excellent HD TV

Love the TV. Have had it for 1.5 months and works wonderfully. Minimal amount of blur artifact, which I notice more on television programs than sports. No complaints though, great TV, great bargain.

What a picture!!!!

This is my first LCD TV and I love it. I did alot of research before buying this particular model. I had been following the reviews and prices of the LN40B650 but when I realized that it had a glossy screen and I have a very bright room, I decided to go with the 630 model because it had a matte finish on the screen. When the TV is on there is very little glare. The TV is a dust magnet but I just keep the softcloth that came with the TV nearby. I have made few adjustments to the controls. The speakers are OK; a bit tinny. I have had the TV for a month and I still sit in front of it and stare at the clarity of the picture. I am extremely happy with this purchase. The delivery was flawless...on time, polite and friendly people. The deliveryman did remove the top of the box before he left so we could make sure the screen was intact. Otherwise, I had to set everything up.

Does it all and then some!

After spending a month or so sifting through all of the latest models and such it came down to this or the Sony Bravia 40". When there was a sale (thanks Amazon!) down to 899 I couldn't say no and picked one up. First of all, I had no problems whatsoever with the delivery company. Actually it was this little old couple so I helped put it up on my table and they were very patient making sure that all parts worked, the stand was put together, and that we had a signal with no dead pixels so big thumbs up for CEVA from me at least.

The TV does everything it claims. I agree with many of the other reviewers that Samsung could have done SOMETHING other than hiding the buttons behind the glass. Not a dealbreaker by any means but I have had to develop the ninja touch without looking or else find the remote. The various settings allowed me to get it just right in no time at all. Having moved up from a tube tv this is an AWESOME set for sports and movies. Football season just got a whole lot better. I can't tell if the 120hz makes a big difference or if it's just going from regular to HD on Sundays.

Highly recommend for other buyers. The number of HDMI ports makes it very accessible for multiple game machines and my Cable/DVR. No glare when the sun is coming in the windows, MUCH better than what I saw on several sets at the local Best Buy.

Good TV

This TV is excellent and the delivery and installation was great! My only complaint with the whole HDTV industry is that they don't tell you you must have a receiver with each set to get the very best picture. I guess I'm supposed to know that, but when will the dish people perfect their connections so we don't need a separate receiver and monthly charge for each set? Probably never.
(October 30, 2009)

Buy it You won't regret it

This Samsung LCD is the finest Samsung I've seen and I have 4 of them.In fact with Christmas approaching will probably purchase anothedr as a gift for my daughter. The blacks are blacker and the TOC makes it stand apart in a room. Watched the World Series on the B630. Truly an outstanding High Def Set.

The Best

Love this LCD HD TV. Easy to operate. Color and clarity is incredible. It is right size for my study. The TV is beautifu with its design. I think Samsung has the best design among all LCD TVs.

Wow Fast delivery & great TV for a great price

The previous Samsung 42" LCD HD TV did not get to stay as part of the separation & it wasn't until I looked at this TV instore that I realized how much I missed the old Samsung. This is a great TV for a great price and most of all I'm completely floored by Amazon's service. I ordered this TV 2 days ago (Sat. evening) and it was delivered this morning (Monday)!! I don't think I'd get that kind of response had I bought it at the local electronics store (big yellow/blue sign with B's on it). So far so good even though it's only been 2 hours :) I will probably increase my review rating after further use but 4 stars just for being great so far & great order/delivery/pricing!!

Fantastic!!

Picked this up yesterday after exchanging my Panasonic plasma due to bad cable & ps3 quality of picture. This lcd was priced the same at $799, so it was an easy decision to get, no regrets thus far. My cable and ps3 games look so much better now. I got fooled by the 600hz and 2,000,000 to 1 contrast ratio on the plasma specs, something doesn't add up there. The Auto Motion Plus 120hz feature makes blu ray movies look incredible with detail, it feels like your in the movie. I run all of my audio through my receiver, so I can't comment on how the tv speakers sound. I highly doubt you can find a better tv for $800 anywhere, highly recommend it.

Great TV!

Just bought last night! First new TV in years, last purchase was 27" tube TV last century. Haven't figured out all the features yet.

The assembly isn't easy (pictures in instructions aren't very good for where to screw into the base), but doable. Setup not too difficult, but again instructions aren't easy for how to have the TV discover channels.

The picture is wonderful. We don't even have high def service yet (normal analog / digital hybred from Comcast), but looks great. Almost no lines, little blur. Good speakers (store was trying to sell us expensive audio). The menu looks pretty easy to navigate so far.

Compared carefully to a Panasonic plasma

I couldn't decide between a plasma and an LCD, so I bought both (with the intention of returning one) and set them up side by side, my cable hookup going to both. The plasma was a Panasonic TC-P42S1, the LCD was a Samsung LN40B630. I did my comparison channel-by-channel with lots of different programming, ranging from talk shows to cartoons to action movies to football games, in both high def and standard def.

Both are very good 40-42 inch TVs, in my opinion. Once I had adjusted the settings to my liking, I was hard-pressed to say that one looked notably better or worse than the other, though each had its strengths and weaknesses.

The Panasonic plasma had slightly more vibrant colors than the Samsung LCD. Blacks were noticably blacker and dark blues and purples looked deeper. The off-angle viewing was fantastic on the plasma, too. With the LCD, a smidge of color was lost when you shifted from 0 to 45 degrees. From deeper side angles, the picture was still watchable, but definitely shifted towards gray.

However, the Samsung LCD had a brighter, crisper image. In a dark room, details stood out better, and any programming that wasn't dark looked a little sharper. During the day, with the sun shining in, the LCD's image held up a bit better, too.

Motion is supposedly better on plasmas, but I couldn't really tell when comparing to a 120Hz LCD. Both TVs did equally well with typical television, and what blurs I saw seemed to be in the source material. I watched a football game for a while, but if the plasma gave a better viewing experience, it wasn't terribly obvious to me. Then again, I'm not a big sports fan, so maybe my eye isn't discerning enough.

Color accuracy seemed great on both TVs, but the Panasonic needed some adjusting to get there. The picture is too green with the default settings.

Both TVs did a near-equal job with standard def programming (aside from the differences above).

Sound: adequate on both. I have a surround-sound system, so I didn't really care.

Hardware failures: I've read complaints about both brands -- seems like it's a roll of the dice either way. I went with a 4 year warranty.

Other stuff: the Samsung had a better remote, a nicer menu system, and more fine adjustments available. I also like the swivel stand and the fact it's a lot lighter than the Panasonic. I didn't try the internet features on either TV.

Overall, both are very good TVs, and all but the most picky videophiles would be happy with either. In 2009, both plasma and LCD have come a long way and which technology is "better" really boils down to your wallet, viewing conditions, and personal preference. It was a tough choice for me, but, in the end, the bright, crisp picture of the Samsung won out. I can live with marginally less vibrant colors, weaker blacks, and imperfect off-angle viewing (if I watch from the other room, I'll swivel the screen).

120Hz Anti-Blur Motion Control makes a Difference

Just purchased the LN40B630. So far the LCD is working great and has exceeded my expectations. The picture actually looks better than when I saw this model in the showroom at BB. It's probably due to the fact that I dimmed the lights in our living room.

Absolutely great picture when viewing Bluray off my PS3. I also hooked it up to my 3 yr old OPPO upconverting DVD player. Although not as good as the bluray picture, it was much better than I had expected and a big leap over the way it looked on my old 720P LCD. I think the biggest improvement is the 120Hz anti-blur motion control. I was considering a 1080P 60Hz without motion control. I am 100% glad that I shelled out some extra money for the 120HZ with Motion Control. From what I have read, 120HZ by itself does not make much of a difference, but 120HZ combined with the mfg's internal motion control software makes the 120HZ a worth while feature. So this is something to think about when comparing one brand 120HZ LCD to another brand 120HZ LCD. Not all 120HZ panels are equal.

BTW, my old LCD was a samsung LN-R328W purchased as a christmas present back in Dec, 2005 (4 years ago). Althought there is some miinor burn-in on a small area on this old LCD, it is still working great after 4 years. But this LN40B630 is a giant leap ahead of that old samsung in terms of picture quality (contrast and anti-blur).

In addition, my hats off to Amazon/Crutchfield for my order. I ordered it on Friday AM (black Friday after Thanksgiving), it shipped out on Saturday AM, I recieved a phone call and e-mail from Crutchfield notifying me of the shippment. The shipper called me on Monday, AM. And the LCD was delivered to my door on Tuesday AM. 4 days from the date of order to my door, including the weekend.

Finally pulled the trigger on this one...

Looking when it was $979... waited until it was at $799 and pulled the trigger. Amazon delivered as advertised. Easy set-up and,as expected, excellent picture.

Great picture, easy to set up

Have had this TV for about a week and love it! It was easy to set up and the picture is great! I'd recommend it. It's just the right size for our living room and we have plenty of HD channels on our cable service.

Multifunctioning, Well Designed Television

Let's just start off by saying that I LOVE this TV! I got it a great price when it was on sale on Amazon so that played a major role, however, I would've paid full price for this had I known exactly all of it's features. It's just a well designed machine from 'head to toe'.

1) The 120Hz picture quality is AMAZING -- You can definately tell the difference when watching sports or fast moving objects on the screen with the 120Hz feature. 1080p of course, HD movie viewing is absolutly great. My son has an Xbox 360 and PS3 hooked up to this TV and they both look fantastic when playing on it and watching Blue-Ray DVDs.

2) The infolink feature is not necessary, but a really convenient feature to have. It displays the daily/weekly weather forecast in the corner of the screen for wherever you are with the touch of a button. It also has stocks and news feeds if you like from USA Today.

3) 4 HDMI Cables is a big deal. Really, you don't realize how much it matters until you're hooking up Speakers, Xbox, PS3, Cable Box, etc etc. I also bought a set of wireless headphones for this TV and it's nice that there's seperate audio output jacks just for this purpose.

4) 2 USB ports! This is extremly cool in my opinion. The TV plays pictures, audio files, video files (was quite impressed by the variety of formats it plays -- mpg, mpeg, avi, and a few others), all from your USB Thumb drive or external hard drive!

5) Sound is very good for built-in speakers. I am very satisfied with the crisp sound produced, and it's loud, I only have mine at about 15-25% most of the time.

Overall, the picture quality is amazing, the sound is great, the features are amazing. GREAT TV!
(December 08, 2009)

What a deal!!!!

I got this TV at $799 during an Amazon special pricing, one of the last ones in stock as it is now down to a few used ones only. The delivery service said they had 700 TVs from Amazon to deliver in two weeks. Movies on my SD DVD player the quality is awesome and digital (not HD) cable looks great. I can't wait to upgrade to HD. I really wanted the 46" but for a 9 foot viewing distance this was just right. Any larger and I would have seen a lot of pixels. I'm sure Samsung is moving towards LED TVs exclusively now but I took advantage of an awesome product.
(December 08, 2009)

Completely Satisfied

I have researched for 3 years for a flat-screen LCD. In those 3 years I have found that Samsung was the most highly recommended brand for LCD. My cousin worked for Circuit City and studied about and watched all of their TVs and recommended this TV above all of the others (this was before the LED technology was available). Finally, the price was right and I purchased it. I am not one bit disappointed. I have watched almost every action movie I own and I've only had it for 4 days. If you want excellent theater sound, you have to get a surround sound system (I already have one), but that is true with any TV. It's amazing and I don't even have a blue-ray or hdmi cable attached and it still blows me away.
(December 09, 2009)

Excellent Price for a TV!

I happen to got this at the lowest price of $799. It was an excellent deal for a tv with 120hz. It makes such a big difference when I compared with my other tv with was running 60hz. I also tested it with a blue ray. The images were remarkable. It was clear and fast, no pixels in moving images on screen.

**Also, I received the tv in a 5 days. Pilot Air delivery was excellent, no damage to box or product.
(December 09, 2009)

My first LCD TV

Everything has been working very well on it to date. Set up tying into Dish satellite was no problem as well as receiving HD over the air stations. Still learning some of the different features and capabilities. I'm in agreement with the majority of the others who have given this TV good ratings. Delivery was well coordinated with no issues.
(December 11, 2009)

Excellent. I finally pull the plug and bought it

I finally broke my piggy bank and bought this TV. My CRT has been an old faithful and I'd not need to splurge for a TV even though I've been working in the arena of set top boxes with HDTV since 2004. But the pricing, specs and reviews of this LN40B630 finally convince me that the time was right.

A special note to Pilot Courier services. Kudos for a good job.
I bought the TV on a Black Friday Saturday night and it was due to be delivered on 12/2/09. Tracking showed that it arrived in the metroplex the next day on 11/29 and was excited that I might get it earlier than was noted. However, morning of Dec. 2 came and still no TV. I called them after lunch and was told that they couldn't deliver it because they didn't have my contact phone no. to make an appointment for delivery. I got upset but long story short, they called me back and said they'll get it out to me between 5 - 9pm that very day. It finally came at 10.10pm, I was surprised that they went out of their way to make sure I got it that very day.

I set it up right away and 30 minutes later we were watching TV!!
(December 14, 2009)

Great TV

I was looking for a 120 hz flat screen with good performance and reliability ratings that was not so expensive. After much research purchased this one, which came with a free Blue Ray DVD player. So far I am happy with it in every way. Great color, beautiful picture, nice features.
(December 16, 2009)

Great TV and great value

The Samsung has the best picture on the market today. The Dolby sound is great. Some reviews were critical of the sound. This TV puts out great sound. I guess some critics are looking for ear drum damage.
The TV looks great and is easy to set up if you take the time to read through the manual. The quality of style and workmanship shows. You will not be disappointed.
(December 17, 2009)

Great Television!

We have another 56" Samsung DLP television and needed a smaller set for a back room. Both sets are terrific. The new set, of course, gets the attention due to the higher 1080P resolution. The setup of the 40" television was straightforward. The television feed is from DirecTV and we also have a Samsung Blu-Ray player connected. If looking for a solid set with a terrific picture, you can't go wrong.
(December 23, 2009)

Great gaming TV

First of all, this is a review on the actual product NOT the shipping and handling or anything else not dealing directly with the TV. I was given this today as a Christmas present and its great. The set-up was extremely easy and straightforward. Took about 10 minutes tops,to put it on the stand and start watching. The picture quality is amazing. If you are a gamer, this is a great TV to hook your system up to. I have a PS3 and it looks stunning. Uncharted 2 on this TV is breathtaking. The thing i noticed while gaming on this TV and a vizio of a similar size is motion blur. There was little to no motion blur when playing on this TV, which is great! The vizio has motion blur with every turn of the camera, it was nauseating. Also, the TVs standard speakers sound great. Pick this up and you will enjoy it. With 4 hdmi ports you can hook up everything and anything you need to. The TV also has all the features you will want such as, a sleep timer, channel back, fave channel feature and relatively quick response times. You won't be disappointed with this purchase.
(December 26, 2009)

Good TV at the price but..

This is an excellent TV at the price. It has pretty much everything that I was looking for at this price point. Its been only a month since I got it and so far no issues.

Only reason I gave 4 stars to it was due to the uselessness of the ethernet port provided. It is kind of misleading. You'll expect the TV to be DLNA compliant (or have DLNA capability, whatever..) but it does not have that. It simply gets you data for three not-so-useful widgets. There are so many capabilities once you add an ethernet port which are not being provided. It could be Samsung's way of differentiating between different models but then why provide an ethernet port in the first place.

Other than that no issues whatsoever.

samsung lcd tv

the picture on my samsung lcd is so clear, i have been debating if i really need a hi definition input. so far, i am just using my cable input. the other wonderful surprise was that the delivery man made sure my tv was in good working order before he left. some of amazon's competitiors wanted to charge another $150 to do this.
(December 28, 2009)

Football and Boxing Look Great on this TV!

This TV has been great so far. I've been watching a lot of football and boxing on the HD channels and the picture couldn't be any clearer. The touch of color blends well with my furniture too for a very classy look. I would definitely reccomend this TV!
(December 30, 2009)

samsung lcd

The delivery was on time and the delivery person unboxed the tv and made sure it turned on. It is a great product. The picture quality is first rate. It is easy to use and has easy to understand controls. The only issue may be to try to use the tv minus the remote. It is difficult to see the controls on the tv itself. I only use the remote so its great for me. I would reccomend this set without reservation.
(December 30, 2009)

Excellent Picture Quality

I did a detailed and thorough research on LCD tv to zero in on Samsung for picture qualtiy, functionality and ease of operation. It has fully met and at times exceeded our expectations. It took us less than 1/2 an hour to take the tv out of the box and set it up in our family room. It was very easy to connect the tv to cable and stereo receiver and DVD player. The remote is very well designed with lighted key pad for ease of use in the dark. It is loaded with spare HDMI and USB ports to easily connect your pc, camera or other devices to watch and enjoy pictures, video or surf internet on the big screen.
Amazon delivery was better than I expected. The delivery service called ahead of time to schedule a time window for the delivery. By the way, Amazon had the best price and free delvery! I can't think of any cons. A great tv at a bargain price!
(December 31, 2009)

Samsung makes a great TV

I bought a Samsung 32" and a 52" through Amazon last year and now this 40" as Christmas presents. Excellent TV, much better picture than Sony. I also have a Bravia but not as good as the Samsung. Suggest you do not pay more than $[...] as this TV is available from Costco and BJ's as well. Price has recently increased on Amazon as I only paid $[...].
(December 31, 2009)

Excellent Quality & Value

The Samsung 630 series is an astounding buy. I didn't purchase on Amazon, so I can't speak to the shipping, but the quality of this TV is of the highest caliber. Initial setup took less than 30 minutes to fully assemble the stand, secure the screen, and start watching Blu Ray movies. The unit seamlessly links with my Samsung BDP1600 Blu Ray player through Samsungs BD Wise and the two way communication between player and television is a nice feature that allows the two to synchronize settings, etc.

The screen is crisp and the outer frame looks excellent. The TV has more than enough inputs to accommodate a large number of accessories. You can easily hook up multiple HDMI devices, which could be a serious concern on TVs with fewer inputs.

The 120htz Motion Plus feature is amazing for Sports, but new buyers should be aware of this feature when first using the TV to watch movies. The feature in essence increases the frame rate by extrapolating new frames by average the existing ones. The end result when watching sports is outstanding, but the default settings when I initially installed my Blu Ray player was quite jarring while viewing Blu Rays and DVDs. However, it was quite easy to adjust this setting once I realized what the problem was. Lowering the Blur Reduction and Judder reduction to around ¾ each produced an excellent quality for viewing movies.

Overall this TV is a 10. The price and picture quality are both outstanding.
(January 01, 2010)

hardest part was the stand........but then.........

ive had this tv for 2 weeks. I upgraded from a samsung 60 hz to this 120 hz. Blew me away. The stand took a few minutes longer as a screw was abit tough, but after turning it on,it was outstanding right out of the box. 60hz to 120 is alot better. Sports looks great, but movies are almost too life like.As for the sound; in all honesty, ive had the samsung sound bar from my previous set,so i just use the external system. All in all, a great looking tv.
(January 03, 2010)

awesome tv

Just what i wanted - did a lot of research and am very happy - shipped faster than expected and arrived in perfect condition
(January 05, 2010)

Awesome!!

This is my 3rd HDTV and overall this is a GREAT TV and the best I have had so far!!! Picture is amazing!! I can't believe its currently selling for only $880!!! Well done Samsung!!!
(January 09, 2010)

Perfect in every way

Easy set-up and menu; well-designed, great-looking TV; and most importantly, superb picture quality! We've been loyal Sony buyers for years, but the Samsung 630 features at its price point were too impressive to pass up. Glad we didn't -- we're very satisfied. (Don't let the red Touch-of-Color scare you -- it's an extremely subtle accent -- barely noticeable).
(January 12, 2010)

Amazing clarity and options.

I think I really did my fair amount of research before I made this purchase. I compared the price, features, contrast ratio, Htz., and Plasma, LCD, DLP,. This 40" size is perfect for the bedroom. About 8-10 foot from where we view. We also purchased a blu-ray player to watch movies and the clairity is "Wow".Samsung has the best bang for the buck if you want a great Television. Purchased it on black Friday for 799.00 from Amazon.com. It came free shipping and was free of any damage. Totally recommend this TV.
(January 11, 2010)

SAMSUNG AGAIN AND AGAIN

AWESOME TV PICTURE QUALITY IS GREAT,PLUGGED MY EXTERNAL DRIVE WITH MY MOVIES AND MUSIC WORKED LIKE A CHARM PLAYED ALL FILE FORMATS I RECOMMEND THIS TV TO ALL GOT IT AT AMAZON 700+.A STEAL SEXY TV.
(January 13, 2010)

pretty much perfect

I bought the 610 which has very few differences(none being picture related) and was really taken back by the mezmorizing picture. It far surpases my previous 42" JVC and am very glad I made the change.

pros:
- brilliant brights colors
- descrambler (free hd channels!)
- variety of picture settings
- 120hz smooth setting really enhances sports

cons:
- dark scenes look more like black/red/green flickers than truely black. This may be more of an issue with video technology than the tv because pixar movies don't seem to have this same problem

on a side note, I would definately recommend the 40" over the 46" if you don't have at least 10 feet b/w you and the tv because the images in my opinion are annoyingly pixelated. After all, all they did was spread them out to make the picture bigger.
(January 19, 2010)

Samsung 40-inch LCD TV with Red Tough of Color Shines

You can't go wrong with this TV, which we have in our family room. Its picture with HDMI connection is razor sharp on HDTV channels and well above average for standard definition. Hookup is a snap and the audio is better-than-average through the under-mount speakers, though our Samsung is fed through an AudioSource amplifier to Bose bookshelf speakers and a Dayton audio 8-inch subwoofer. There are plenty of adjustments for picture and sound so you can get flesh tones just right and set up the 120 hz motion to your liking. Delivery from Amazon was as promised and seamless.
(January 30, 2010)

Very Pleased with my decision

As someone who took a lot of time out to review different product specifications and find a TV that could be used in various rooms, and have a long lifespan, I am very happy with my decision. I waited until Black Friday to buy this TV, and certainly did not disappoint for only $800. I am a former employee for a large electronics retailer, and I can tell you that it is well known that Samsung is top-dog when it comes to LCD televisions. At this point I have owned the television for just over 9 weeks.

This TV really fits all of the needs of anyone looking for a high quality TV that will do everything you could want a TV to do. The 120 Hz screen refresh rate is more than enough when it comes to LCD technology. The human eye cannot perceive a difference beyond this point, so if you are looking for a quality TV that you are not overpaying for, 120 Hz is the way to go. I've watched numerous sporting events on this TV over the past few months, and I have not been disappointed in the slightest about its performance.

The 80,000:1 contrast ratio creates a vibrant and colorful environment on the screen. I watched Planet Earth in HD recently, and absolutely loved the level of detail this TV was able to bring to the screen. Its not a top-end HDTV, nor is it an LED TV, but it certainly does the job for me. I take the performance of my TV seriously, as I know what to look for having worked around them, and this TV has not disappointed me.

The speakers are not the best on this TV, but flat screen televisions were designed to be compact, and speakers were the obvious choice to lower the quality/ability in order to achieve that goal. With that said, I would always recommend purchasing a surround sound system with the purchase of a flat screen TV. Having a great screen is only half of the battle. If the sound does not match up with the television, you won't find yourself in the story taking place on the screen. (This is why theaters have good sound systems & big screens.) Get yourself a quality sound system with an HDTV and you will find yourself immersed in the story.

This product has plenty of inputs and outputs. Currently I have an Xbox (component HD), N64 (coax port), Srround Sound (audio out), Cable (HDMI), and computer input (HDMI). If you have a lap top with either TV shows, movies, or a DVD player, you can plug that computer into this TV and use the TV as a monitor or to view your media. I regularly watch TV shows from the internet player on my TV through my computer. The HMDI cable carries video and audio, so the entire system works with just one plug.

All in all, I have found this to be a high-quality product. The TV also hooks up to the internet, though because this is a new technology, I expect that software updates will be in the future to upgrade this unit to stream Netflix movies and other online services. Its an inevitable next step in TV development. If you're looking for a cheaper, very high quality TV, look no further. Samsung is LCD's top dog, and no one will be knocking them off for a while.

Samsung Red Touch of color review

We are very pleased with our new flat screen TV. We have not had any problems with it and the picture is very clear with still and action scenes. The only thing I could improve is an on/off switch on the TV itself, for when the remote is not handy. There is even a three dimensional aspect that enhances the picture. We are glad that we purchased this model and saved money through Amazon.com

TV

Delivered as promised except that the delivery was delayed for about 2 weeks since evening deliveries were not available. I had to ask for a weekend delivery, and then first weekend was full.

Amazing

This TV is absolutely amazing. Much lighter than my previous 40 inch Samsung LCD HDTV. It's true 120HZ 1080p screen is absolutely amazing. It makes you feel in the movies. I have a BLU-RAY player and the HD of this tv is absolutely amazing! The price is definitely reasonable considering i payed double 2 years ago for the same TV with half the HZ. I'm overall satisfied with the TV in every way possible.

Great buy

This is a great LCD HDTV. I'm definitely getting bang for my bucks. Great price and quality television. The financing option is a major plus as well. I highly recommend for anyone who's been thinking about a new TV and can't quite afford the newest LED's on the market. If you're thinking, and you're not doing that bad financially, jump on deals such as the one I got. You only live once!

So far so good

I've had this Samsung LCD HDTV for just over 2 months now. I am enjoying it everyday. The red color to the frame is easily seen in my living room. Some reviews mentioned that it's not visible, may be something to do with the lighting?? The picture is very clear with vibrant colors. My one complaint is with non-HD channels, fitting the picture to the full screen slightly distorts the shape of people on the screen. I don't like watching those channels in widescreen mode, which I guess is how it's meant to be viewed, because I don't like to see the side black bars, if that makes sense! I am very happy with the purchase, especially for the price on Amazon!

Samsung B630

Excellent picture quality, excellent product. Take some time learning how to operate the product from whomever you purchase it from. I should have done more research as to the HD channels and options I had from my cable provider.
(February 14, 2010)

Love this thing

What's not to like about it? Crisp picture, you can make your own picture settings easily.. Just a great product all around. I've had it for a few months now and don't regret this purchase one bit.
(February 15, 2010)

Best ever

Bought this as a recomendation from 2 others that had " glare" issues. I have south facing windows behind me without shades and have no problem watching anytime of day. The 630 series is awesome.
(February 23, 2010)

very nice

I was leery about ordering a large television online, but after the lack of inventory from Best Buy and Sears, not to mention overcharging for extended warranties, I decided it was worth the chance. The fright shipment took about a week for delivery. I picked the unit up at the local freight depot to get it a day early. The box was in prefect shape. I know what many large boxes look like when they arrive UPS in our office. I was very impressed it was unscathed.

It's a great TV, easy setup, looks very nice. I am glad I decided on Samsung over Sony, just because it looks nicer. The couldn't tell the difference between picture quality. We watched some of fast action Olympic sports and there is no apparent blur. I have yet to watch any action movies. $79 is a small price to pay for a 3 year on-site extended warranty plan. Sears wanted $180.
(February 23, 2010)

Olympics in HD!!! Incredible on this LCD

Samsung is truly amazing. I was comparing the different options for quite some time. This one turned out to be a little more expensive than the Sony and Vizio, but the picture is nothing short of incredible.
(February 27, 2010)

Beautiful...

It took a couple days longer to get here than expected but it was worth the wait. I researched HDTVs for at least a month before buying and the Samsung LN40B630 kept coming out on top. It was the most "bang for the buck." The instructions and set up were simple. The picture is absolutely beautiful. I am well pleased with the purchase. I was a little apprehensive buying it from Amazon because I had never purchased a major electronic device on-line. However, I have bought many things from Amazon and have never been disappointed and was confident that the buying experience would be a good one. Great deal!
(February 27, 2010)

Excellent video quality

Excellent video quality.
I paired the TV with a Motorola Cable HD box and the Samsung BD-P4600 Blu-Ray player, all interconnected with high quality Sony DLCHD HDMI cables and I must say that the quality is absolutely flawless.
I am literally amazed by the quality of the Netflix movies that I currently stream (wirelessly) a well ast the You Tube cntents.
Speaking of streamimg from Netflix, I watched the National Geographic documentary "Yellowstone: battle for life" and I was able to stream in HD... fantastic quality.

Only 2 (minor)cons about the TV:

1) the flange that connects the TV to the pedestal is somhow "flimsy"
2) the TV built-in audio speakers are basic (clearly designed to be connected to a proper home theater system)

Other than that, I would reccomend this TV to anybody. Great purchase, great bargain, exceptional quality.

Big difference for Samsung

My old LG was having issues so I upgraded to this Samsung. I don't know what caused the difference, but the images immediately seemed more real. No matter what the source, picture seemed like you could reach through the screen and touch the people there. The ATSC tuner also received more channels than my previous HDTV. Fabulous!
(March 03, 2010)

Amazing Picture!!!!

This is one amazing TV! The picture is unbelieveable! I went from a 32" to a 40" and couldn't be happier. Easy set up! The matt screen is a must for my sunroom. Takes up very little room and even when not on it look great! Very sleek. My daughter has the 46" and loves hers also. The 40" fit my room size better. Clear picture from any seat in the room. I shopped around and couldn't match the price + free shipping not to mention the no interest payment plan.
(March 03, 2010)

Great tv with a few issues

I love the tv, it was exactly as described; however there is one major issue with the tv that people should know. This tv has the power button on the front bottom part of the tv, but it is not a button you push in; it is a button that is I think heat sensitive because you have to press power sign on the glass which is hard to see unless your looking straight at it. Think of the tv as a rectangle and on the bottom part of the rectangle smack dab in the middle is on button sensor. This is not in the manual which makes it even worse when trying to figure it out. I believe that was the only poor thing about it. I wish the picture and picture worked with TV to TV, not just component to TV and it doesn't work great with cable unless you play around ALOT with the picture stuff like sharpness and color, etc.

Also, if you have an xbox, please realize that it can only go to 60hz so don't get the tv if your getting it mainly for gaming purposes.

With the delivery, it took like 2 weeks when it said I would get it within 4 days. I didn't mind too much because the shipping was free, so can't really complain they sent a 40 inch for free. The shipping people were really nice when they scheduled the drop off and they were right on time. I would buy from them again.

Excellent!

I want anyone reading to know I am a TV nut and early HDTV adopter. The slightest picture imperfection (excessive grain, inaccurate color, color bleeding, etc...) will drive me crazy and I am happy to report this Samsung has displayed none. This is my 3rd HDTV purchase and first in the 1080p 120+hz era.

Got my hands on a this set last week for under $650. Hooked it up, calibrated with DVE and all I can say is WOW.

Needed very little tweaking out of the box (Movie Mode). Picture is outstanding. Anyone in the market for a TV of this size should not hesitate.

Colors are spot on. Blacks and whites are very good (after calibration). Gray scale is very accurate (after calibration). Screen uniformity is also very good.

Still playing with 120hz motion control. I think I like soap opera effect (at least when watching cable).

Blu-rays really look outstanding. You will not get a better TV in this price range.
(March 09, 2010)

Very pleased with this purchase

I was looking for an lcd tv to replace our old tube tv in our family room. I found this tv at best buy for about $150 more. I was glad I also looked at amazon. The experience couldn't have been better. My brother has bought 2 flatscreens and also had no issues.

As far as the tv goes, we already had a samsung plasma and loved that as well. The picture is as crisp as our plasma. I did have to play around with the settings a bit to get the right colors, especially facial pigments. Also, the 120hz feature had to be dialed down a notch to avoid making filmed tv shows like sitcoms less jittery. Most shows I learned are at 60hz and so will appear jittery on here. Exception is live tv as far as I've noticed. Basketball games for example were perfect. I did see that turning the 120hz setting to its highest made the people on the tv seem almost 3-d. But that jittery stuff was just too distracting.

Sound is good for a tv speaker. There's some pseudo surround sound you can turn on but in the end this not a home theater and we don't need that for the kids to watch. You can get it pretty loud and clear.

We still have to get a blu-ray but even the pictures from the dvd look clear.

Eventually we'll try hooking up a pc to this and see how that looks. The only thing I wished for these tv's was to have built in wi-fi instead of having to buy an adapter. Cha-ching!

Definitely buy this tv. Especially for the price you will NOT regret it.

Great Purchase

I've had this tv for about 2 months. I got it for $849 and feel that I got more than my money's worth. Excellent picture and audio. Xbox 360 is great, the PC is great, HDTV excellent. This is my first HDTV. The ability to connect the PC is what takes this TV over the top. The VGA connection is excellent. Through the PC, I've been able to use Netflix, Hulu, Boxee, etc.

One thing of note for those curious about shipping. Shipping company called and scheduled a delivery. The delivery actually was 5 hours early and just so happens that I was at home at the time. The driver only brought the tv in and left. There was no setup or pre-checklist that he adhered. I was fine with that.

How it went for me...

I finally could afford to get a new tv. Getting an hd one, in this day and age, is a given. After many hours of research, I went with this one, the Samsung LN40B630. My needs were pretty specific. I needed a tv that was at least 37" to 46", had multiple hdmi inputs, and was a bit under a grand. I was also planning on using this for my computer monitor. This Samsung, does all that and more. HD from Comcast looks great most of the time, but the non-hd stuff is only so-so. I had originally hooked it up with component for the cable and d-sub for the pc because I had ordered the hdmi cables the same time as the tv (I didn't expect the tv to get here in 4 days but nearly 2 weeks for the cables). Those both looked great. Once the hdi cables arrived, I hooked the stuff up proper. The cable tv looked about the same, but I had problems with the computer, lots of overscan. After going back to the d-sub, for about a week, I finally had time to mess arou8nd with the graphics card (a pny gtx 260, that was only about 1.5 weeks old) and tried every tweak imaginable. The problem was solved by uninstalling the drivers, but before reinstalling, hooking up the hdmi cables). It is now working great, with no overscan. I have yet to hook-up a blu-ray device, but have tried some 1080 content from elsewhere ;). It looks awesome. I like that I only need the optical cable from the tv to the receiver, as the rest is passed to the tv via hdmi. This tv also plays back [nearly] any format from the usb ports, and I mean tons (everything from divx/xvid through mpeg4 & h264 [mkvs!], though it doesn't list dts tracks as an option). I have only used a flash drive, but plan on an external hd in the future. I noticed that its internal decoder is better than playing stuff back on the computer, as least where scene-released tv shows are concerned. This fine set also includes a picture-in-picture feature, but the downside is that just takes whatever is going through the coax for the sub-pic. The sub-pic is resizeable and the position can be moved to any of the 4 corners. All and all, this tv is great for the person wanting to use it for both a tv and a computer monitor. I play WoW and Battlefield Bad Company 2, and they both look as good as can be. Lastly, the 120hz this is kind of a marketing gimmick. It can basically take your source material, none of which is available at 120hz to begin with, and it can place frames in for a smoother picture. I generally switch my setting between standard and smooth. Sometimes stuff has a very peculiar look to it, so I switch it at that point.

I am very happy with this TV. My older Samsung LN32A450 (32", 720p) had decent image quality, but didn't draw in the viewer as much in a typical living room / apt setup (8'-10' viewing dist.). This 40" 1080p screen on the other hand manages to feel open and exciting without getting into huge (-ly expensive) home theater sizes.

The matte screen looks great. Contrast is very good; although the B650 spec is higher, both TVs are already beyond "budget" in this respect and deliver great picture. The benefits to me of a matte screen in my light-flooded home substantially outweigh the slight contrast gain of the B650.

This TV, to the best of my research ability, does in fact have the capability to display a native 24p framerate (for Blu-Ray movies). However, the Samsung "auto motion" technology will have to be fully disabled to view the truly native framerate. However, I discovered the disturbing truth of 24p, which is that it can actually seem to exhibit MUCH stronger "judder" than 3:2 pulldown on a 30fps TV! How come? Because 3:2 pulldown, while it creates uneven motion, also blurs the transitions between frames. Displaying each frame natively at 24fps gives constant velocity to objects that are supposed to move at constant velocity, but it glaringly reveals how deficient 24fps is as an historical (and apparently inviolable) standard of the motion picture industry.

To that end, a small amount of auto motion plus--say, a setting of "2" (out of 10, I believe) for blur and judder reduction--can actually help restore the sense of relaxed presentation that other TVs present, while still displaying the native framerate. Experiment with this setting and settle on something you like--high settings of auto motion plus create a nauseating "soap opera" effect that is far too smooth. Keep it subtle or turn it off!

Anyway, color rendition, brightness, evenness of backlight, sharpness, everything is as good or better than expected at the $850 I snagged this for. At the normal retail price it becomes less of a bargain but remains a great TV anyway. Recommended.

Great TV

This is my first HDTV and I am very happy. I bought a Samsung based on the many reviews I have read as well as consumer reports. I have only had this TV for a month... I do feel that this was a great purchase.

Solid performer

i purchased this TV from Best Buy about 6 months ago. it was my first TV purchase and i spent a long time researching brands and speaking with peers about which way to go. Samsung seemed to have a very strong quality reputation and their prices were not outrageous (although higher than most). I finally got my info together and headed to Best Buy to check out all the TVs they had to offer. This particular TV caught my eye right away as the best looking one of the 40-inchers. It was right next to a Sony of similar specs and seemed to have a sharper image and better coloration.

I went ahead and purchased it. My first tv had a faulty base that made the TV lean forward, very annoying! So, i returned it to Best Buy just to swap it with another of the same model. This next one sat level and looked great! The TV has been solid since day one, never any issue with anything...so far! im happy with my purchase and the only negative thing i can say about this model is that it is a tad too small for my taste. I love watching basketball and football in HD and obviously for sports, the bigger the better. Oh well, next tv maybe, for now this works brilliantly.

Non-glare screen is a winner

I took as long as anyone else to pick a LCD TV. The B630 has a great picture, the sound at normal volumes is ok, but the thing I really love is the non-glare coating on the screen. My previous TV was difficult to watch during the day due to glare, but the B630 looks great. I echo all the good stuff people have written and disagree with most of the listed shortcomings.

I LOVE it!!!

I actually bought this TV on Black Friday '09. Setup was a breeze to my new Panasonic blu-ray player too.
You won't be disappointed in this TV. Picture is ok for TV viewing but that's only because I'm too cheap to pay for HD programming right now. But DVD's are crisp and AWESOME looking. HDMI cables are a must, since this TV does not have S-Video.

is it a 120HZ looks like 60 HZ? Too much Blur!

When I turn is on it says 1980p @ 60 Hz. wish I bought a 240 HZ. Way too much blur when any motion. Even when someone is walking across the screen it blurs. Everything else is good.

40" Great Buy

This LCD is plugged to a sat receiver the HD channels look excellent features and design are very nice audio is excellent as well.
The weight of this LCD is low compare to the size of it. I like that it's thin which make is lighter also.
I have no cons to mention this time.

Samsung 40" LCD HDTV

We love this TV! The picture quality is outstanding, though we need to take the time to read the manual and really understand all its features. We compared it to other well-known brands at a store and we liked it best. I don't think you can go wrong with a Samsung TV.

Fantastic value

I found this TV locally on clearance for $699 so the retailer could make room for the new 2010 model LN40C630. Even at Amazon's reasonable price, I think this TV is a much better value over TV's several hundred dollars less - a cheap piece of junk is still junk in the end, no matter what. You're better off banking that money in savings until it accrues enough interest to make up the difference between the models!

This TV has two sets of component inputs, which makes it more legacy compatible for those of us that can't afford the latest gear, and the upscaling processing I think is really nice. Closeup comparisons of my Xbox 360 running over component show that the TV's upscaler provides a sharper picture than running the Xbox at 1080p directly.

I spent about an hour in the store subjectively comparing this TV to a Toshiba model and a Panasonic model flanking them that both had decent reviews, and every time I'd change a setting, I ended up liking the picture on the Samsung more than any other model. Even if the panels in the sets are identical as my salesman claimed they were (so why not buy the cheaper one!), Samsung's image processor seems to have a lot more refinement than other less expensive brands, and I think that it really justifies the slightly additional cost of this TV. There is more color and detail subtlety viewable in the image on this Samsung than in its competing TV's, and the color is better and more naturally represented, even in the (tacky and over-bright) Dynamic mode.

The same retailer had a LN40C650, which has more features than the 630 model TV. I have a PC hooked to this TV as well and so fancy internet features hold no interest for me, but moreover the 650 models have a glossier screen which I actually do NOT prefer over the semi-matte finish of the 630. If I am trying to watch the TV in any type of light, the glossy screen increases reflections significantly, and I would rather take a minimal hit on the real-world-unattainable contrast ratio instead of hating my TV every sunny Saturday afternoon.

If you are not going to calibrate the TV, I'd recommend setting it in Natural mode. It was too dim viewing in the store, but most retailers have lights that are exactly one hojillion times brighter than in your home. If you view especially in the evening or in dim rooms, the brightness level is set very good by default in this mode, and I (subjectively) feel that the color balance is the most realistic. Rendered content doesn't 'pop' as much without the oversaturation, but isn't bleeding color problems the reason I got rid of my old CRT in the first place?

With regard to Digital Noise Reduction, the 120Hz processing, and other features: I do not see a huge difference, personally. None of the content that I have viewed so far on my TV has shown me much different sitting 11 feet away. My suggestion is to play with every setting, and find the viewing preferences that suit you. Each persons preferred content will play a role in what settings are best, so I will not suggest any. Just know that you can always say "Reset Picture" and start over if you muck them up too badly!

Thanks for reading.

Great value, great TV!

I'm going to keep it short but I really like this TV. I still haven't got to all its different functions, but the main thing is the picture is beautiful. If the specifications and inputs match your needs, I don't think you'll go wrong with this one.

Incredible LCD for such a good price!

At the time I bought this TV for $950, Best Buy was selling it for $1300 (which would've actually been $1420 after tax). That makes it the best bargain I've ever got. Thank you Amazon. The quality of the picture is amazing and it's so lightweight compared to other TV's sold for similar prices last year. My only problem is that it tends to tilt forward. The angle views are amazing too.
