Reviews of Samsung LN40B530 from Amazon.com

all around winner.

Great tv. great price for what you get. Picture is fantastic - colors crisp and bright, definition is sharp for all colors/shades. I have direcTV HD. Cant see how much better this picture will get but it definitely will bridge the game for several years. I don't use other built in features like gaming to speak abt them. Sound is solid. normal viewing is at about 25% of limit. Tones are balanced and clear. for larger sound i go thru a stereo receiver. one sound quirk - the auto volume adjustment takes a couple of seconds to kick in; but that's nit-picking.

dissapointed

i guess my other samsung must be 120mhz cause the picture is not nearly as good as my two year old samsung. wonder if i can return this for a better model? I mean,it pic is ok but not even close to my 46 samsung from two years ago. i just assumed any new model would be better.

Fantastic Purchase!

I've had this tv for about a month now and it's great. It has superb clarity and the colors are vibrant. Definitely on par with or better than Sony and LG, especially for the price. My only negative comment is the sound. Maybe I'm going deaf or my space is too large, but I have to turn the volume up much higher than I'm used to...I've added my Bose speakers out of fear of busting the tv's. Overall, great tv!

Great HD picture and great service from Crutchfield

First I want to say how impressed I am with Crutchfield. When I purchased this unit through Amazon I really didn't pay much attention to who the actual seller was since it received the standard free shipping. I purchased this on a Saturday morning. With in 2 hours I received a phone call from Crutchfield thanking me for my purchase and explaining how the unit would be shipped, etc. I was very impressed with this and would absolutely purchase from Crutchfield in the future.

As for the Samsung - The picture is great with HD. I got it primarily for sports and the HD channels look great. Some of the standard def channels are not so spectacular but I don't necessarily think that is a fault of the Samsung, I think it is more a Directv issue. I have an issue giving anything 5 stars but if you are looking for an LCD in this size range you should take a look at this one.

Samsung 40 inch 1080p LCD HDTV

This is a great TV. The only thing that I found disappointing is the particular model I purchased did not come with the side inputs for hooking up my digital camera or camcorder etc. Getting to the back of the TV is an inconvenience and it also results in less input options.
It's my first flat screen so I wasn't aware that this would be an issue.

near-perfect tv...

i just replaced a new 32" samsung with this 40" model, wanted the larger screen size.
the picture is excellent (with a little tweaking); clear, sharp, bright.
my only regret...this model (unlike the 32") has no headphone out, so i can not use my powered speakers AND control volume/muting.
the internal speakers are, as usual, the weak link (again, made better with some serious tweaking).

price just went up on this, but worth it. the only gain in the next model up (the 550) is a slighter better contrast ratio, more inputs/outputs, and a red color on the bezel.

if you want a reasonably-priced 40" with a great picture, this is it...

Samsung

Looks fine at 60 Hertz on FIOS. Not enough inputs for main household tv or for a gamer. I am using it in a family room with just a cable box and a blue ray player so it works great for me.

Another great Samsung product

Had a 44" version of this in our old house and left in when we moved. Bought thisto g in our slightly smaller living room in our new house and love it. Sound quality isn't perfect but great for the price. Also bought matching DVD player for $69.99 and the are simple plug and play with HDMI cable. One remote does it all!

Smokin' Hot Deal - Samsung LN40B530

I purchased this TV on a smokin' hot deal from the Brick (buyer beware the Brick do not always allow returns) as we had a credit on account and needed to use it up we went ahead and purchased from the Brick. The Samsung LN40B530 is a second TV that goes in our bedroom. It was easy to hookup. I only had a cable box and a DVD player to plug in, both are HDMI so it was a snap.

I replaced the remote with a Sony Universal Remote which replaces the 3 remotes to run everything else. I love the Sound Mode, SRS, Picture Size and Picture Mode buttons on the remote and programed them onto the Universal Remote. P.MODE button changes the Picture Quality (PQ) in an instance, I love this feature as you can rotate through the different choices as quick as you can click your remote, the same is true of the other 3 buttons mentioned.

The picture is fantastic. My wife was amazed with the PQ. I have viewed the Samsung LN40B530 against other TVs with faster refresh rates and higher priced at the different box stores. Personally I feel the PQ is as good as other higher priced TVs with the faster refresh rates. If you are price concise, this TV is to be considered. One of the first things I noticed when I started watching this TV was the clarity and vibrant colors. I remember in the first day or two of getting the TV, I was watching a show, I don't remember which one it was, but I remember thinking, look at the hair on the arms of that girl, that is how good the clarity is on this TV. The PQ is awesome. I love the rich vibrant colors.

One negative item, when ever I see a label of HD on a program, I assume it is 1080 however the signal may only be 720 or less. On my Sony all I have to do to check this out is hit my info button on the TV remote and it would display 1080 or 720 or whatever it may be, however with the Samsung it always shows 1080 even when watching non HD programs. I have scanned the manual and haven't yet found where the correct info can be displayed. Personally if the PQ is not 1080 I would rather watch something else that is 1080.

If you can not differentiate the PQ of this TV from that of other TVs with faster refresh rates or if you watch little or no sports, don't be taken in with all the hype of the faster refresh rates and buy this TV and you will do yourself a favour and save yourself $100s of dollars.

Non expert review

I purchased the LN40B530 and received it yesterday. I currently do not game or the set so I can not talk about that. From an HDTV TV perspective it is an incredible set. The picture is fantastic. The setup was easy I did not need another person as the instructions suggested. It was nice that the stand is built for you. The instructions stated I had to assembly the stand as well.

I was originally going to purchase an LG 37HLH30. I went to a local retail to look at the set. There was a dramatic difference betwen this and the other 1080 sets. The Samsung was the best the colors were better than the others. BTW if you are looking at the 37HLH30 go with the 37HLH40 the colors are much better with the H40. The other set I saw at the store was the Sony KDL40S5100. All 3 of the final sets LG 37HLH40, Sony KDL40S5100 and Samsun LN40B530 had beautiful pictures but side to side Samsung has the best colors. Sony was second and LG third. The LG had more connections (inputs) but my old set a Sharp Aquous 26 has so many that I never used them all anyway.

The only thing that the Samsung did not have was the picture in picture. But I barely have used this anyway on my Sharpe.

After narrowing down my search to these 3 I was going to purchase the Samsung or Sony preferably or the LG if the price was a steal. In the end I got the Samsung (on Amazon) at $60 less than I could have gotten the other two so I choose it.

Overall the picture is unbelievable. Unless you are a

My suggestion to those researching on the web is to take a look at the TV and it competion in store. Seeing them side by side on the same image really helps your choice.

Wow! What a buy this was!

We purchased the Samsung LN40B530 HDTV as a family Christmas present. We had checked this particular HDTV out locally by comparing its picture and features. It far outshined the others. Our final decision was to purchase it from Amazon as Amazon had the best price around and we were already familiar with Amazon's fine shipping procedures.
We are very impressed, experiencing no problems AT ALL!

good

really good...got this for $650, can't beat that. Picture and sound are great. Only issue is minimal A/V inputs. Would buy again.

First LCD TV and I love it.

I spent a lot of time looking at TV's in the 40" range and love this one so far. It's only been a month but I can't say enough about the picture quality. I debated for a while about it being 120Hz and am glad I didn't pay more for 240Hz. I haven't done a side by side comparison, but this one works great for me.

HAPPY CUSTOMER

This is out third LCD tv from Samsung that we ordered and we are very happy with it. We love the sleek black design and easy to swivel stand. Putting it together was a breeze and it was working within 10 minutes.

We have a set in Samsung's Touch of Red line which has a constant blue light under the center of the tv that could be annoying - this set has the same blue light when it first turns on and off and that's it. Yeah. This tv has a swivel stand with fluid movement and works great! I can now watch tv from the kitchen with just a slight push to get the perfect angle for viewing. The picture is super crisp and clear with the HD cable box provided at an extra cost by my cable provider and great viewing even without the HD cable service.

We considered a Vizio based on great reviews, cheap prices and it being touted as the #1 seller of flat screens but found that the quality was not as good. I also like the amount of control Samsung provides over the tv settings. Another huge plus is the Samsung service, they stand behind their brand and their customer service is outstanding. I love getting a live person to help with any issue or questions. I dare you to find that with other brands.

The only drawback (and lack of five stars) is the tv controller. This tv controller does not work as well as I would like: it needs to be pointed directly at the bottom right of my tv (the infra red spot) in order for it to work properly and you need to really press down on the buttons for it to work. Yuck! Controllers to other Samsung sets would much easier then this one.

Awesome

I didn't realize how archaic the picture on my old TV was until I purchased this Samsung HD. The picture quality is amazing with a standard over the air TV signal. I would highly recommend this product to others.

Great LCD (especially for a bright room)

This TV has been wonderful. When I compared in the stores, I saw little difference between the latest models with the most advanced numbers and this model that's a couple years older. The one difference I did notice was price: this TV is worth the money.

Most of the pros and cons of the TV are listed already here, but one thing to emphasize for folks buying this TV for a bright room is that it has essentially no glare or reflection. The picture is great even on the sunniest of days. Very happy with our purchase.
(January 14, 2010)

Great, affordable television

I am very happy with this purchase. I got it for a fantastic price. While there are models with better specs out there, this was an affordable option. I have not noticed any issues with picture.

LCD HDTV

No surprises - product exactly as advertised and expected. Shipped on time and arrived on time.
(January 28, 2010)

Not enough inputs

We bought this LCD just for watching TV on in the bedroom (gonna mount it on the wall), but it's now in the family room until we get our big TV. Everything about this set is fantastic, except for the lack of inputs. The sound was seriously lacking at first, but I just went to the Equalizer settings and moved the sliders from the middle over to the right a bit and now it's plenty loud.

About the inputs: If you have a lot of older equipment, like this cheapskate, then you're going to run out. I have a 75 ohm digital TV antenna input, a composite, or AV,S-Video, or 75 ohm input from an FTA system, another composite (or AV) from the DVD, and the AV from the VCR. I also play tapes and slide shows from the DVR and digital cameras, which require AV or S-Video inputs.

Well, this TV only has the HDMI inputs (3, I think), one set of composite, one set of AV, and that's it. There are no side or front inputs for a camera, and no S-Video jack. None of my boxes will let the digital TV pass through and be picked up by the TV, so everything needs its own cable and jack. All those HDMI inputs don't do me any good, since only the DVD has a jack, and I'm not about to spend $20 for an HDMI cable just to use for a week or two. Of course I'll be spending probably $200 on cables when I finally get my big screen, so I'm being super cheap here.

So I highly recommend this set for anyone that doesn't have a bunch of old stuff to connect. The picture is superb, the sound is great, the remote is easy to figure out, and the menu system is good enough. The instruction booklet is a joke, there are 2 pages of everything because of all the different models, but it does have a nice index if you need specific info.

Oh, one more thing. Ordering from Amazon was great, and Pilot shipping rocks. Good communication, right on time, and the driver unpacked the TV so we could plug it in and verify it wasn't damaged or DOA. Unless we find an incredible deal locally (not likely), we will order our big screen from Amazon too.
(January 27, 2010)

WOW, good job Samsung!

I've been stuck with the same old box for yeaaaarrrrsss, no wonder I didn't do much TV watching and let me tell you, I've been missing out big time. First off, I got this TV shipped over to my home really fast, no problems with the delivery. This merchant offers the best price and I've shopped around for a bit (in stores and on the internet). For first time buyers, like myself, I recommend doing some research on the web then going into an actual store to get familiar with screen sizes and picture quality. Overall, the sound quality, picture quality, setup is very satisfactory...I'm sure my electric bill will skyrocket because I just can't keep this thing off!
(January 29, 2010)

great at first

Unit worked properly and had good picture for about 3 weeks then started failing with intermittent video, been in shop 3 weeks waiting for the back and forth between samsung and local repair shop, (supposed to be fixed in the next week) we bought samsung for reliability, A bit dissapointed

This is the 3rd Samsung flat screen we have purchased

Beautiful picture. We now have 3 Samsung flat screens in our house. This 40 inch is a little aggressive in size for our bedroom but I could pass up the great pricing and free shipping. Its like being at the movies from the comfort of our bed.

great tv for teenages

My grandaughters love the tv for their teenage hangout. An upgrade would have been better with their WII and Play Station but it is great for the price.

Great TV for the price!

Honestly I was pretty skeptical about purchasing this television based on a few of the reviews. Overall the reviews were great but specifically one of the reviewers mentioned a power switch problem that he suggested was chronic for this make. I decided to purchase the TV anyway because I have a larger Samsung (plasma) TV that has held up beautifully and I figured for the price I'd take the chance. So far it has not let me down.

This TV has a great picture and decent sound that delivers a wonderful overall experience. 1080p makes everything come to life.

I'm giving this TV a 5 star not because I think it's the absolute best TV on the planet, rather because it has been a wonderful addition that has delivered exceptional quality and performance for a more than reasonable price.

All around solid buy!
(February 01, 2010)

Viewing at it's best

After much research and comparison shopping with many models we chose the Samsung. It may have been just a tad more expensive then a few other brands but we felt confident with the reviews and features. We are not sorry. It is a very nice TV. A friend bought the Sony Bravia 40" and we thought it was a bit more user friendly but the Samsung has measured up everywhere else. Amazon was great to deal with, they offered a better price then Walmart. They also had free shipping and the deliverer even unpacked it, set it up, and made sure it was working properly. That was a real plus and much appreciated.
(February 02, 2010)

Excellent TV for the price

I purchased this Samsung LCD TV in December of 2009 and have enjoyed it immensely. This was my first LCD Tv, and my first HDTV. I waited a very long time to finally get one at the price I wanted and as such, my review is probably tainted by HD being newish to me.

Anyways, the tv is wonderful. It works well in my living room, which has a lot of windows and is very bright. The black levels on the tv are about what I expected out of a standard LCD (ie, not LED). There is some motion blurring during sports, but I can only notice this when sitting too close. This tv is a great buy for the price.

Great TV for $664 taxes included

This is a great tv for a bedroom, sound isnt that great but for that price u cant go wrong. picture is ok also, one thing I did notice is that tvs always come with that info sticker on the side of the tv letting u know all the spec's it has, my tv didnt come with that sticker. I dont think its a big deal everything looks new. Over all its a great tv for a really good price. If anyone else was missing the info sticker please comment back just wanna make sure I got a new set.
(February 05, 2010)

Great Product

I ordered this for my in-laws for Christmas and it arrived in plenty of time. It was very easy to set up and program and easily connected to their DVD player and satellite box. This set has good quality sound and is very responsive and has a clear and crisp picture. Control menus and picture adjustments are intuitive with on-screen icons that can easily be followed to get where you want to be. The remote control is easy to see and easy to use even for those more mature in age. We were able to teach my in-laws how to change channels, switch between antenna and satellite, and adjust the picture in under 15 minutes. This is a very good value.
(February 06, 2010)

Pleased!

Our first big screen purchase and we are quite pleased. The quality is excellent and the set up was not a problem.

great tv for the price

This is a very good tv for the price i was upgrading from a 27 inch insignia so this was obviously a great upgrade! Haven't gotten hd programming yet but tv still looks amazing. Must buy for gamers too i have a xbox 360 and it looks insane on this overall very satisfied samsung has not and did not dissapoint me with this tv!

Nice TV

This is our first LCD TV and we are very pleased. Love how it looks on my wall and the picture quality is great.
(February 19, 2010)

I'm Loving It

The value is remarkable I love this. I'm very happy about that since I spent days and hours researching different TV's before my purchase.
(February 21, 2010)

Samsung is still #1

I work at Bestbuy so I asked everyone I knew there what is the best brand for a television. 100% agreed that Samsung is the A+ brand. TV's aren't cheap, so if I'm gonna spend all this money, I want the best and that's Samsung. The tv arrived with the stand already built, so that was nice. Then after attaching the tv to the stand I got set-up with adding my new blu-ray player and HD DVR with two HDMI cables. This is the best picture quality every!!! There is no way I could be happier, I love this TV!
(February 24, 2010)

Quality 2nd TV

I picked up this TV for my bedroom, so it is not my primary TV. I have only had it a month, but all is well. Very clear picture for HD channels and surprisingly good picture on the non-HD channels. I also like the feature that automatically spreads non-HD channels across the entire TV vs. having the black bars on the side. Definitely a good price for quality TV. Hopefully it will hold up for the long haul, but given that it is a Samsung, my guess is that it should hold up (hopefully I didn't just jinx myself).
(February 25, 2010)

rough Start

After getting the TV set up and figuring out how to use it, we enjoyed 2 nights of watching high def tv, then the screen went dark. The company I was directed to for service could not come for a week. We decided to haul it ourselves to another authorized service center. We had to pick it up and then set it up again. It was a bit discouraging, hope it's not the beginning of a trend. It looks great....for today...
(March 10, 2010)

quite happy with tv so far

had this tv for about a month now. we don't have cable so it is mainly used for watching movies and playing video games. i am very happy with the colors and the picture is tight. movies and 360 games look great on it. i would buy this tv again, samsung almost always makes a quality product. also, product was delivered via pilot freight services. this was my first experience with them and i read mixed reviews. i had no problems with the delivery. the delivery truck arrived when they said it would and they called about a half hour before arrival to make sure i was home.
(March 11, 2010)

Matte Screen is Key

I also have a Samsung 58PN560 to compare to, so.....

The color is great out of the box, whereas i fiddled with the plasma a lot more.

The matte screen does a great job of limiting reflections in a sunny room with a big picture window. I don't know if they make many models any more with a matte screen, but I would highly recommend it.

Watched half of the superbowl on the TV and noticed no streaking or blurring of motion of any kind.

Only thing I can't seem to find on this TV is how to set the time - not sure if it is a feature or not. Don't really need the instructions to get up and running.

Sound is better than on last tv...36" Toshiba - picture tube and all...probably 175 lbs.
(March 12, 2010)

Plain awesome, excellent bang for your buck!!

This TV is just awesome and I love every aspect of it.

First of all, the exterior design is dark, sleek and really attractive, it mainly continues with the line of Samsung designs we've grown to love.

The TV isn't heavy at all so it's easy to move around and set up, be it the normal stand or the wall mount.

The image will blow your mind. It's just as awesome as it comes. The 60,000:1 aspect ratio gives a pretty nice black-to-white transference and the brightness is really good too. The colors are really vivid and really make the images stand out.

I have an xbox360 and a PS3 hooked up to it and the gaming experience is just mind blowing. The blu-rays on this thing are just breath-taking, the image is really sharp and clear and brightness and color depth will really amaze you.

Many people have critisized the built-in speakers, but I think the sound is really good and clear. I also have it hooked to a 5.1 home theater system, but the built-in sound is not bad at all.

The price is excellent IMO, I paid U$705.00 and it arrived in perfect conditions.

Overall I think this item is a great buy. An excellent TV for a very good price. Highly recommended.
