Reviews of Samsung LN37B550 from Amazon.com
Very Happpy
I bought this item to be used as a monitor for my MAC G5 Pro Computer. The physical size was determined by the amount of space I had on my desk, otherwise I would have gotten a larger one. The Samsung LN37B550 works great as a computer monitor and displays in 1920 x 1080 resolution, I can put it in sleep mode according to settings on the Apple, the picture is sharp and clear and easy on the eyes with my head just a little more than a foot away from the screen. I also have an Elgato TV card on the computer and I can watch TV in several different screen sizes which I select on the apple. Di-Def channels are displayed as such and cable analog displays as it should. No complaints. Great product for the price.

sound control does not work
Picture quality is perfect and much better then my $3200. Sony (2006). The Sound control is broken and will not glide up or down in volume. Control must be pushed repeatedly for proper sound placement. Not enough quality control.

Red touch of color. That is bad
The TV is OK, nothing like the series 750, but please Samsung, the red touch of color starts to peel off after a few months.
I have the 750 series in my living room and it is in miserable condition peeling al around.

Well Satisfied
...very happy with the new Samsung HD TV!!!!! The product was easy to install and set-up. The picture is very good with good sound quality especially hooked up with my external speakers. I was especially impressed with Amazon and One-Call getting the set delivered in a no-hassle process and 4 day delivery!!!!!!......john

Everything I could have hoped for.
I am the most indecisive person in the world, and within the past 6 months of browsing HDTVs and not being able to make a decision, I finally decided to jump in and buy this TV set. I've only had it for one day, but I'll continue to update this review as time goes on to make sure people get an idea of the long term aspects of this television.
First off, this TV is perfect for homes with small to medium living spaces. I have a living room that is roughly 15 by 15 feet, and this accompanies the room perfectly. Even after I set it up, I thought to myself that 42 inches would have been a bit too overpowering. Anyways, this TV puts my old 26 inch Westinghouse to shame. Although...I think almost any TV blows away Westinghouse television sets.
Anyways, right off the bat this TV is beautiful. It lacks the 120Hz processing, but in my own personal opinion, the only time 120Hz is beneficial is if you are watching sports or documentaries (Speaking of Documentaries, Planet Earth looks absolutely incredible on this TV regardless of the 120hz). All of the games I played today off of my PS3 looked much more polished and finely detailed, and Bluray (Planet Earth) was equally as incredible. I'll likely be giving some action movies a go on this TV tomorrow night, and I'll make sure to update how the TV handles fast moving scenes. However, I have a feeling that it will be great.
Before I close this, there was a review that I read which said that the television had poor viewing angles and back lighting. I just want to claim that when the sun went down, the backlighting on the TV is not nearly how the reviewer made it out to be, and the poor viewing angles are hardly poor. Do they exist? Yes, but barely. I felt like when the image became obscured due to the viewing angle, it doesn't even matter because the angle you are viewing the screen at is so awkward.
Bottom line, I am more than pleased with my purchase, and as stated before, this makes for a great small/medium sized living room TV. Unless you get a defect, you won't regret this product.

Worth the research.
Before buying a television with all the things I required, I read numerous reviews from several websites and dealers. It was definitely worth that research. This television has been everything I expected. Quality is definitely worth the extra price. My advice is to not let price keep you from getting a high quality television.

What an upgrade!
This Samsung replaced my 8 year old 26" Sony. I do not have a HD signal yet, but I can't imagine receiving a better picture. The old Sony weighed at least 100 pounds and I had to get my wife to help me get it out of the cabinet. This Samsung is light as a feather compared to the Sony behemoth. I have been waiting years for the LCDs to come down to my price range and I'm glad I waited. A excellent product!

Samsung LN37B550 37-Inch 1080p LCD TV
We're downsizing from an 8-yr-old 61" 4:3, Rear Proj. Sony. While we are adjusting to the smaller size, we are amazed at the incredible clarity and brilliance of this 37" 1080p LCD HD TV!!! The Pilot driver provided the scheduled delivery, assembled the stand, and tested the TV screen. While he was late by several hours, which was beyond his control, he called several times giving us an update on his status; very courteous and polite.
For this basic 5-Series set, it has a lot of bells and whistles in its menu. TV technology has come a long way in the last 8 years. Samsung has created a great product and we are very pleased and give it a strong recommendation!!! The bonus is that it is priced at around $700 by Amazon with a mrsp of $849.99 from Samsung!

Excellent Picture Quality - Tiny Volume
Like many others we settled for this 37" TV because of the fixed size of a expensive TV cabinet. I am replacing a SONY anlog TV, i am very happy with my Sony, which i had for 15 years. Unfortunately, Sony does not make 37" LCD's anymore :-( Sadly, i had to look out for other brands. We compared Panasonic LC37-G1, LG 37LH30 and with Samsung LN37B530. We eliminated Panasonic as it did not have analog audio output, LG did not have good reviews and Samsung LN-37B530 has only 1 component input (needed 2, 1 for wii and one for DVD player). This Samsung LN37B550 has what i need except 120Hz which costs additonal $300. When i compared this Samsung37B550(60Hz) and Samsung37B630(120Hz)at Best Buy i could not really tell much difference in picture quality that would merit spending another $300.
PRO's: Amazon service was Excellent. We were promised delivery in 5 or 6 days, we got it delivered the next day of my ordering as we live closer to Amazon's ware house. Setting up this TV is easy, could be done in 30 minutes or less. Picture quality is very good for HD channels, but not very good for traditional channels.
CON's: TOC (Touch Of Color) is a marketing ploy, please do not fall for it. I could not make out the red color during day or night. I had to look for it consciously. Also, the volume, power and channel buttons in the front bezel of the TV are practically unusable because they are touch sensitive ones on the bezel. The markings on it are not very clearly visible, much less distinguish between them, you just have to guess where they are. I had to always use the remote. So, do not loose your remote. Sound is too tiny out of the speakers, as i do not want to listen through my AV system all the time. Compared to my SONY this SAMSUNG sounds awfully too tiny. Think twice before buying if you do not have or do not plan to use a AV system with this TV.

A touch of what?
LN37B550 37-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with Red Touch of Color...As far as this "Touch of Color" ploy is all about, my set must have received just a mere hint of color from a dry brush as you must actually scan and look for the red color even during daylight hours. In any event, this touch, or lack of red color, doesn't really do anything for the TV at all.
Now, as for the TV, I've had it up and running now for just a few weeks and I like it quite a bit. Like so many others, I have a rather large (too costly to discard) entertainment wall unit that I purchased around 10 years ago that has become the centerpiece of my living room. It was designed with the traditional "square" hole opening for a TV that will accommodate a standard 32-inch "tube style / square" TV so getting a BIG/JUMBO set became somewhat of an issue. Fortunately the wall unit has a bit of a ledge right in front of the TV opening so I was able to get a 37" LCD and place it there. As a precaution I used some very small bungee cords in the back to keep it secure.
All in all, the set works very well (great picture) but the sound quality is a bit mild. The sound is not bad mind you for regular viewing but I will undoubtedly get some kind of sound system to enhance the sound quality for movies and such.
Great value!

Exactly what I was looking for
The unit itself is very sturdy and the swivel works very well. Image quality is great considering the multitude of options you can tweak. I use it a lot for my xbox 360 and being able to change motion blur sensitivity (game mode on or off), brightness, and backlight levels is great. Connectivity is no problem considering the amount of hooks up on the back and the side. GET this tv if you don't want to spend a lot, but get a lot.

Would like to be objective
I ordered this television from Amazon utilizing their scheduled delivery service. I scheduled the delivery for a date 2 weeks after the date the order was placed. Amazon was not the lowest price on this item, but I have had excellent service in the past so I payed for the privilege so to speak. The television was scheduled to be delivered to my mother in-law in Florida, I live in Ohio and was driving down to do a wall mount installation. The television never arrived, there was no call, nothing........ I drove 16 hours and placed a call to Amazon customer service only to find the television had been "lost in transit" by the carrier. The best that customer service would do was refund my money, and that was only after making 5 telephone calls. Looking back I should have requested that Amazon Air Freight this to me in order to make things right, this would have been the correct and responsive thing for customer service to have offered.
I located a substitute television locally, installed it with the other components that did arrive from Amazon and their vendors. The personal stress from this experience makes me question doing time sensitive business with Amazon. I probably would have been very pleased with this TV but I will never know.

Everything we hoped for
We did our research and decided on this model for our bedroom. It is perfect. The size, the clarity, the swivel base is just what we were looking for.
Buying from Amazon on these large items did not disappoint. They delivered it, took it to my bedroom, and installed it. All for no extra charge. Great service.

Yep, it's better than Sony Bravia
For my first LCD TV I debated..Sony, Samsung, Sony, Samsung. I just couldn't decide. Then the Samsung surround system I bought died, customer service was not able to assist and this was the system that replaced my elderly Sony DAV surround that only died when my husband sprayed oil into it to clean it instead of canned air (don't ask). Anyway, I decided that was a sign and went with the Sony Bravia. It's a good tv but is horrible outside of HD programming. It's worse than my old Sony Wega that it replaced. I did hear often that Samsung holds well when not in HD and I have to say when I put up this TV in my playroom the critics were right. Such an improvement over the Bravia for non-HD programming. It's stunning in HD when paired with my blu ray player or HD TV stations but it is still remarkable when playing Wii or watching netflix on Roku. Two things that were less than stellar on the Bravia. Sound is good for this set but it is in a very small room so a band with two tin cans and kazoo would sound pleasurable. Overall, I'm happy with my choice and glad I have both to compare. I will say the power plug on this set is just as horribly short as Bravia's. This makes mounting difficult. Anyway, now I will sit back and wait and see if it will die within a year like my last Samsung product...but that is another review for another time.

What Cosmetic Scratches?
I recently purchased this t.v. from the scratch and dent section and when I received the t.v. I couldn't even find the so called scratches and I saved a load of money. I have been using Amazon to shop for years and will continue to do so, especially after this big buy.

good stuff!
Very pleased with it. Great picture and clarity. Sound quailty is good but not great. Buttons on front are touch activated but difficult to see. Excelent for gaming when you get everything set up correctly.

This is a great product! 37 inches was perfect for my living room which measures 16 x 10.
Picture clarity in HD is outstanding. Would highly recommend at the pricepoint I paid - $714.

Sound chintzy, motion blurry
After owning a regular (non-HD) 24" CRT television, the sound from this TV was hollow and actually uncomfortable. I adapted to it after 3-4 weeks.
Last night I watched a non-HD broadcast of the movie "I Am Legend", and the action (fight) scenes were so blurry, for I while I thought the movie was made that way intentionally in a sort of fast-action cartoony format, with all the fists and arms flying and after-images trailing everywhere. Then I switched over to an HD channel where the movie was showing, and I discovered that it was in fact normal filming and you could make out the scenes.
On the plus side, when I first got the tv and was disappointed with the sound, I contacted the seller (Beach Camera) and got no response. I contacted Amazon and they jumped right in to arbitrate. Beach Camera contacted me immediately and sent a service rep out to check the tv. The sound couldn't be 'fixed', but I was really really pleased with the responses.
Thank you Amazon.
#One other thing - channel switching is shockingly slow, but I can't figure out if that's the fault of the Samsung alone #is it the way LCDs work?#, or the way the tv is interfacing with my Time Warner cable box.#
