Reviews of LG 42LH50 from Amazon.com
Love this TV!
I am really happy with this LCD. The newtwork features are what really set this set apart. I am sure these type of features will soon be common, but for now LG is leading the way. Under NETCAST, you have streaming Netflix, Vudu HD movies and youtube. The Netflix setup was easy and the movies lookedmuch better than I expected. I tried both SD and HD movies and they looked good but of course I will be glad when they get a better HD selection. The Vudu movie service is one of my favorite features and not evem because of the easy access to streaming HD movies at your finger tips. The best part of Vudu for me is that you can view HD trailers for upcoming movies, and most of the previews aren't even on TV yet. They lso have all the latest movies, so it's a better selection than Netflix. The youtube streaming also looked much better than expected. An example of how cool this feature can be, my wife was watching a talk show with friends an it was talking about the viral video of the baby dancing to beyonce and she was able to quickly pull it up and see what all the fuss was about. Needless to say her girlfriends loved it. The other nice feature of this set is the ability to use the usb drive to connect a thumb drive or hard drive and watch video clips, pictures or listen to music. You can also view media on your network, so this tv really does it all. Oh and the yahoo widgets are aslo available. They allow you to watch Yahoo videos, follow your Twitter account, yahoo weather, news, sports, stocks and Flickr. Lastly, there are plenty of settings adjustments that can be made to tweak your picture. There are some settings on CNET that look great. Oh, and I went with some linksys powerline adapters to get it onlne and they work great. I have had no problems with streaming any media, even HD.

Best TV ever
I recently took delivery of this TV as I had purchased an LG surround sound system and liked that very much.
I am very impressed with the quality of the picture. I especially love the Netflix connection.
It was very easy to set up and connect my components to it.
I corrected the audio issue by going to the menu and selecting the audio options that felt right for me.
I use my sound system for movies and Netflix, but do not use it for regular TV. one of the audio options allows you to set the sound so that TV and commercials will be at the same sound level. This is a great feature. You can pick sound for Cinema, Sports, etc and you can select the same options for picture.
I have watched several Netflix movies on it and the picture quality was terrific. Some of those are older movies and not in HD, but they sure looked good on this TV.

Great TV
It is the best TV I have ever used. Great picture, but low quality sound. I use external speakers, so don't have any issues with audio.
No Cons, except the quality of integrated audio!

Brilliant Picture, Sleek Design, Sound Could Be Better
We purchased this TV about a month ago and I am very satisfied. The picture is awesome to say the least. I love the LG brand because their product seems to be top of the line. This TV pretty much has it all. I only have one complaint and it is with LCD TV's in general. The sound is good but it doesn't get very loud. Most of the time we have to keep the volume almost maxed out because it isn't very loud. Like I said though this is a drawback of all LCD TV's because there isn't much room fit larger speakers in it because of how slim it is.

Fantastic
Great TV. This is what I have been waiting for. I love Netflix and Vudu integration. Vudu is awesome. The TV itself is wonderful. Great picture quality and sound. I bought a receiver along with it but I will be returning the receiver because the speakers on the tv meets my needs. Unfortunately, I got it from Bestbuy for about $100 more than what Amazon is selling for.

Love my new tv!!
Just got this tv to replace an old one that broke and I love it. The picture is so amazingly realistic that when people on the screen start running it makes me dizzy :) The sound is awesome too. And I simply love my netflix instant queue being available on the tv. And it the cabinet looks very sleek too. Just a great tv. Bought it from 6ave here on amazon and got it in under 48 hours with standard free shipping - ordered 5pm on thursday and got it 2pm on saturday! Got it sight unseen (old tv broke and had to get one asap) but was amazed at how great it is. Couldnt be happier! And 6ave customer service was great too!

Great Bang For The Buck!
This is a Great HDTV For the money $850.00 Free Shipping and No Tax. Picture quality is AMAZING. Sound is ok! You can always do better sound wise so I elected to go with the LG Surround Sound DVD with Ipod adapter. Now This Set Rocks! I much rather watch movies at home now as opposed to going out to a movie. With it being Netflix Ready I just plugged my Ethernet cable in and now I can watch all the free movies they have to offer. I got the Netgear 5 port so I can use my computer and TV at the same time with my DSL service. Best Investment I ever Made.

Love our New TV!
Our "not too old" Sony TV decided not to come on one day so we decided it was time to upgrade to something better. Were we in for a treat.
The previous reviewers have pretty much covered the basics of this TV, so I will relate my experience with it so far. I've had the TV for a couple weeks. I do not subscribe to any paid TV service (Cable, Satellite or FIOS) and have been relying strictly on digital OTA (Over The Air) for my TV channels. This TV displays OTA HDTV signals with unbelievable clarity. Also, it does a very good job with SDTV (480i) digital signals as well. I've watched 480i on other HDTV sets and was never as happy with the picture as I am with this one. Another surprise on this TV was how well it pulled in some analog stations from Canada.
I have a second HDTV tuner hooked up to the new TV via HDMI in order to utilize the guide and for scheduling recordings fro my VCR. Yes, my VCR! As I stated above, this TV handles 480i so well it makes VCR tapes bearable, even enjoyable! So, my VCR still has some use.
I have the TV hooked online via an Ethernet cable. I subscribe to Netflix and only have a 1 mps speed for my internet. Netflix does not look all that good at this speed, but is watchable, especially for animated kids shows. Having Netfix on your TV is awesome. The interface is so easy to use that our 6 year old had it down in no time. I also tried VUDU and found that the picture quality was much better than Netflix and was usable at my 1 mps speed. You-Tube was about the same as it is online - some videos looked OK, some don't.
I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to access and view files on my computer. You can view pictures, play background music while viewing slideshows, and view videos stored on shared folders on your networked computer or any type of memory device attached to the USB port, such as a thumb drive or external hard drive. I was a little disappointed that it would not play AVI files from my wife's digital camera, but I'm sure there's a solution. It will play WMV, other AVIs, and some DVD files I'd copied (VOB, I think).
Picture control is very good. I like the energy saving feature, but sometimes it seems the auto adjust feature leaves the screen a bit dark. I usually set it to medium or minimum, depending on the amount of light in the room.
The sound is OK. While it sounds good, there could be more control when watching online content. Sometimes the sound can be too loud for one video, then too low for another. Or even vary during a video. Hard to blame the TV though. The quality of the sound is good, not awesome but acceptable. If you want more, get a sound system.
The remote is a weak spot on this TV. I find myself hunting for buttons all the time. There is no natural flow to the buttons. The remote is very long and narrow, I cannot reach all most commonly used buttons with my thumb and I have big hands.
The inputs in back face the back so plan accordingly when mounting it to the wall.
The manual is on a CD, a printed one would have been better. There is an onscreen manual which isn't too bad though for most things.

Great Picture and Features
This 42 inch HDTV is a great combo with the internet for movies and sports. The Netflix feature is great and the picture is awesome. Widgets can be useful too. I like the ability to make adjustments to picture and the many hdmi inputs. There is also the abillity to output digital sound to your home theater system with the optical out. This is great if you dont have hdmi inputs on your surround sound amplifier. Overall my experience was great with amazon and Fifth Ave electronics. It was shipped right to my house in a few days.

Love this TV!!
We've had our tv for about a month now. It was very easy to set up and easy to use!! We are so happy with our purchase. The picture is just great! Never realized what a big difference HD made!

Fantastic!! ...unbeatable features/value for the cost
This TV is extraordinary! I can't find anything that I don't like about it. The thing that I like the most is being able to access Netflix and Vudu movies easily because the software is built-in. It's worth the extra dollars to have these available through the built-in Netcast feature. I use a (Linksys WET610N) bridge which mimics a wired ethernet connection to my router so that the internet connection to Netflix and Vudu is wireless and automatic. Any stuttering or buffering that I get when watching streaming movies is always due to a drop in my broadband download speed and not due to the bridge or TV. (And yes, VUdu does have the best picture and sound for HD.)
There are no problems with action scenes, dark scenes, Blu-Ray, etc. The TV has a lot of user setings or you can just set most things on auto. Plus, the user menu is intuitive.
Another big plus for me, which I had read about and actually found to be true, is that the picture is very good even in a bright room in the daytime. A lot of flat screens have a washed out look when viewed in the daytime with sunlight. The surround sound effect is amazing for a television without using external speakers.
The multiple connection options on the back and one set on the side also make connecting multiple devices easy, and using them easy also, since I don't have to use a switch box or disconnect and reconnect cables. I just select the input from the on-screen menu.
Actually, the only thing that I would want is built-in wireless, but since an ethernet bridge works so well, I won't hesitate to buy a larger screen in the LG50 series (which have Netcast) for my living room when I'm ready to upgrade.

Awesome Extra Features
I agree with reviewers who noted the great picture, ease of set-up, adjustment features and access to internet. I got this unit for about $800, and I am pleased with the price. I too wish this unit had a wireless capability, but I solved the problem by hooking a modem and router up directly to the TV. This was necessary because I did not have an internet cable in the TV room (bedroom), and it took a couple hours to work through the online connection instructions.
A couple of suggestions: Go with the biggest TV you can afford. This TV looks good from 10 feet, but I wouldn't want it any smaller. For those of us who made do with 19-inch TVs for many years, it seems unnecessary to have such size, but trust me, size matters. You will want bigger.
Note that Netflix's collection of movies for online streaming is limited. There are some great movies available, but they are usually older. VUDU has the latest in eye-popping HD, but you have to pay at least $2.99 per film.
The sound is only average. I am thinking of adding external speakers.
Use the included disc for set-up and/or technical questions. The paper guide is brief and inadequate.
Overall, a great TV with cutting edge features that I have grown to love.

Problem turning it on!
I just returned my first set. The new one was delivered yesterday. Same problem. The darn thing doesn't come on until 3 to 5 times of turning it on and off. This can't be good for the longevity of it. The thing powers up ok, but it seems it doesn't recognize the input. As this is the same exact problem I has with the first one, I must be doing something wrong. I'll have a LG tech come out and evaluate it.
Either way, the set should be way easier to turn the h*** on! Not a happy camper right now.
As an addendum, I must say Amazon's customer service is superior. No attitude, nothing but respect and diligence in trying to please me. They've eased my apprehension over buying sight unseen big ticket items over the internet.

Excellent TV with internet features!
We ordered this TV from Amazon and it arrived a day ahead of scheduled delivery which was great because we were dying to get this! We replaced our 15 year old 35" picture tube RCA and the LG 42LH50 was an excellent replacement. The old tube TV screen hieght is equal to the 42LH50, but you get the added bonus of the 42" having a screen width about one foot wider!
The picture quality is superb. Got to watch the American Idol season 9 last night, and its amazing how much detail we saw! Also, fast motion and high intense action scenes are flawless. We watched "Bolt" from the Netflix download, and was very impressed. The picture and sound were DVD quality and all from the internet dowload to the TV. The LG 42LH50 is definitely the future for TVs! Having a wireless connection as opposed to the LAN cable would have been the icing on the cake, but for all the other internet capable TVs, this LG is definitely cream of the crop.
I highly recommend this TV!

We LOVE it!
We got this TV a few weeks ago... we LOVE it... great picture, excellent sound (goes from 0 to 100... we always use it around 5 to 10 and 30 for movies). The TruMotion really changes the graphics for us in a good way.
Great product, really pleased with the TV

great tv
Bought this tv for my husband for christmas. He hasnt gotten off the couch SINCE!! Great gaming TV. We have an xbox 360 and it looks and sounds great on this tv. I searched and searched in stores and internet for the best price and found it here. Planning on buying an LG bluray so that we can get netflix on the tv soon. Love that all remotes interact so that I will only have to use one remote in the end, I'd buy LG products again

Great TV
I have had my LG for a week now and really LOVE it. I have been watching Netflix movies, which was very simple to figure out. I'm also having fun watching YouTube videos on the 42 inch screen. Setup was simple and the picture is wonderful.

I love it
The deciding factors were the extra features. I've had it for a month and I am enjoying it very much, we watch Netflix all the time on it, I can plug in a USB and share pictures while the music plays in the background and we can share and laugh at the youtube clips.
The picture is exelent, especially the blue ray DVDs. I am very happy with this tv.

I fell in love
Man!!! I love this TV. Picture quality is awesome. Sound quality is good but wanted it for the bedroom, good enough sound quality. I love its streaming capability of Netflix and Vudu. Once connected my Ethernet network cable I was able to stream excellent quality HD movies from Netflix (must have membership with Netflix).

Great value, great picture, customizable
I love this tv.
This is my first lcd tv.
I switched from a 32 inch old tube tv to this.
I bought this because I have Netflix and wanted to watch the movies instantly.
The Netflix feature is so easy to use and works great.
Just hook up the ethernet cable to the tv and you are ready to go.
The picture quality is fantastic for both Netflix movies and for regular tv viewing.
I am no audio expert, but the sound from the speakers are more than adequate.
When you consider that this tv cost only a little more than a tv without internet connectivity, this is a wonderful bargain.

A Big Bang for Your Buck!
I bought this from Video Only where it's known you can bargain with them. Although, I wouldn't recommend buying from that place because it's a hit or miss. Forget customer service if you happen to end up with a disfunctional product. Only go there if you're willing to take a risk in order to save money. I've been lucky with three big purchases from there (60" Sony, 52" Sony, and this 42" LG) all at about $200 less than the lowest price out there at the time. I bought this LG tv about 2 months ago when I believe the normal price was $1099 everywhere, and Amazon was selling for $899. I paid $750 out the door for this tv and I am the happiest customer ever! (Right now, I think Amazon has lowered its price to $749, but I live in WA so that means tax wouldn't make it a deal for me.) With its loaded features, I think this tv has the best value. I'm scared of the quality of cheaper brands like Insignia or Vizio, but do not have the money for an expensive brand like Sony. I think this specific model from LG offers a lot more than a Samsung of the same price.
Its features surpasses my other two Sonys mainly due to the feature I use the most: movie playback through USB. I've only seen one other customer review that mentions this. I'm surprised that it's not mentioned in the specifications from various websites about its .avi, .mp4, .mkv, etc playback through USB (unless reading owns me and I overlooked it). I normally connect an external drive with a ton of pictures, music, and videos to the PS3 (which only reads from a FAT32 file system = 4GB file size limit). I connected this drive to my LG tv and I was surprised it does better than the PS3. It reads both NTFS and FAT32, so I was able to watch a 8gb .mkv 1080p blu-ray file. It looks absolutely stunning. The TruMotion 120hz feature made the movement seem so realistic. The colors are stunning on Vivid mode. I also love the ClearVoice feature because I always hate it when action movies are so loud during action scenes, but are so quiet during scenes with dialog so I'm turning the volume up and down throughout the whole movie.
My boyfriend plays Call of Duty on the PS3 with the tv and I can tell you his kills have increased dramatically :)
The Yahoo widgets, Netflix, etc features are probably the biggest selling points of this tv. The salesguy made sure to emphasize these features, but I can't make any comments on them because I honestly would never use it. An 100' ethernet cable running from the router through the house to this tv would be annoying. I know there's a lower model (LH40) without these features but for some reason it's either the same price or more expensive than this higher model tv (LH50). Weird? So these features are just a big bonus for what I paid. Maybe I'll eventually use it one day. I do wish it had wireless instead, but I know that could potentially degrade the connectivity quality for streaming. A minor issue I have is Volume 1 is not as quiet as other tvs, but that's subjective and it could just be my young ears.
I absolutely love this tv! And it didn't explode. I definitely recommend it. :)

I LOVE THIS TV
This is the tv from heaven. I chose not to have high def right now, but this picture is so clear, I think high def would scare me. I 'streamed' a movie from Netflix last night, 'Passage to India', and my friend, who has high def, swears the picture is clearer than hers. Clearness, contrast, sound, looks. The gentlemen who delivered the TV for Amazon were polite, on time, delivery came 3 days early, they unpacked it for me, and plugged it in to make sure it worked.

Honestly - not many flaw with this TV really!
So I'd say I have this television set for close to two months now.
Honestly - I don't have many complaints. I love this HDTV!
Pros:
1.) Surprisingly light. Two people would be nice to take this thing out of the box due to the width, but I did it myself.
2.) Stylish and simple - nice simple design.
3.) Internet ready. I have played/surfed Yahoo, You-Tube, and Netflix. While I do wish the search capability on all three were better...well...you have to admit...this is a tv set. We're looking for quality of the picture -- And on Netflix, that HD feed is holy-crap-frigging-brilliant.
I totally believe if you have Netflix, the HD stream to this this TV is amazing and well worth the price.
4.) Amazing Picture quality for all HD signals -- I was able to plug this TV into my cable outlet, and the TV picked up some digital signals. Eventually, I did pay my cable provider for a box and more HD signals...but honestly -- i may cancel my cable. The digital signals the TV picked up were more than sufficient. And if you have Netflix, you really can bypass things like HBO or TNT or whatever.
For non-digital signals, you do notice a quality deterioration....but heck...it's not HD.
5.) Crisp sound -- surprisingly, very good. Except when I play my DVD. Albeit, it's not that bad.
6.) No ghost or burn -- i think some people complained about images being ingrained into the LCD when the tv is turned off OR the channel is switched. Well...i didn't see any of that. It's fine.
Cons:
1.) My fiancee complains about the numerous options on the setup or switching from DVD to Cable to Netflix. I told her to stop complaining. But in her defense, you DO NEED to play around with the options/menu/setup to get use to maneuvering around on this TV set.
2.) No manual or anything -- honestly, i have no idea if i'm using all the features on this TV. Would've been nice to have a full-fledged manual.
3.) No wireless. for the internet connectivity, you need a wire going into the TV set. Honestly, there are just too many wires going in and out of this TV set now a days.
4.) Price fluctuation-discrepancy - I see the price of this tv going up and down...i guess based on demand/supply, and a wide discrepancy between stores. If you just need a tv...well...don't think about it, and just buy this beauty. Else...you may want to comparison shop here and there. I've seen a plus/minus 100-150 dollar range on this thing from what Amazon sold it at.
...but...yes -- I am very happpy with my purchase. This is an awesome product so far.
Life is Good
I have been looking at LCD TV's for over a year and reading reviews like this one that I am giving for a TV that I would have to live with. I also based my decision on the spec-sheet given out by the manufactures. I found that the bigger the integer in the model number the better the specs were. In the case of LG I only would look at sets with a model number 50 and above. These sets had tens of thousands of contrast ratio, response times greater than 5 ms, (the smaller the number the greater it is: 2 ms is greater than 8 ms) vertical rates of 120 HZ, and lots of inputs. This model had DSL input which was the straw that triggered my purchase with a price that I could manage. Cash flow being a major block for me to buy anything. I knew that even if I could afford the TV set I still would not be able to feed it content as charged by cable, or satellite feeds. Off the air was said not to be available for the area I live in. I am able to buy basic DSL and this LG takes the output of the AT&T 2wire modem just fine. Plug & Play is what you want. LG provides a Yahoo content which works will enough for me. Who wants to be brain washed by pay for view FOX noise boys anyway? I am getting my news from AP direct just like the commercial TV stations do all be it raw feed but than who needs pay for view FOX noise boys brain washing anyway? I use the YouTube to view PBS news, ABC news, CBS news, NBC news, Daily show, and the BBC world news. What more do you want, the pay for view FOX noise boys? I could get NetFlicks for $5. a month and view old TV shows like the complete 33 episodes of Buck Rogers, Dr Who episodes, Good Neighbors, Are you being served, Keeping Up Appearances, Monty Python, Weeds. . .etc from their first episode to their last, & Movies. Also you may buy into VULU which is sort of like HULU except you PAY. A good deal if you can give up the money for that content. I intend to put my computer into the mix so that I can access HULU just to see more free & current content. First I have to learn Linux because my experiments with MS XP causes major melt down of the OS when working with HULU thus far and they say that they program for Linux which may be the reason that MS windows blows up TOTALY! I learned the other day that we could have free TV content on line except Republican Bushy FCC tagged the internet not as telecommunication so that the FCC rules for free TV access do not have to apply. Go figure that one! (#$$$#) I have a dream that TV station will broadcast into the internet just like they broadcast into the air for free to view! I blame the cable companies & the Republican FCC for not seeing/saying that a cable is a form of telecommunication subject to free TV access to the public. All that money that the TV station & networks put into telephone lines, microwave links, satellite feeds, studios on local soil, and MEGA-WATT transmitters on local soil, TAXES to local soil, could be put into a DSL IP. I have a DREAM! No more copper wires! Just a fiber optic line running up & down under my street! To that end I am buying my TV's DSL ready, X0,000 : 1 contrast, 2 ms or better, 120 HZ vertical, HDMI inputs for DVD etc, audio output for Adobe 5 home theater, computer input, USB input, and of course DSL with a 42 inch minimum screen! IT WORKS GREAT! Life is Good with out FOX noise boys! LG. Amazon did me good providing me access to this TV. Thank you Amazon for the great deal! AND thank you LG for a great TV! Thank you YaHoo for some free content Telecommunication access!

Absolutely Outstanding
A truly great product. Super sharp picture. Multi-connections to both PC, internet, TV, video etc. Amazing that it can get both NetFlix, VUDU, and Yahoo Widgets through internet connection. Multiple HDMI connections, reads video and jpg directly from my external hard drive, great sound . . . lots and lots of special features.

Best for 1st time HDTV owner...
This is a decent TV for the price and features. However, I really don't agree with all the enthusiam of other reviewers (I wish I did). The image is good but it is just not "the best", "unbelievable", etc. Feature-wise, you get a lot for the money. The widgets are nice, although not enough of them, the Netflix integration work very well. I suppose VUDU is nice to have but I personally don't see what it has to offer (at a cost) that Netflix doesn't (if you're a subscriber).
IMO, this TV has only a decent picture. If you have never owned another HDTV, you will probably be totally satisfied. I returned a Sony 40"S5100 due to QC issues. That tv had a much better picture. Better blacks and colors. It was however, plagued by quality issues that made it a headache. The LG has had none of those issues so far (knocking on wood).
The TruMotion is really a joke, IMO. It is not made for movies or TV but for Gaming and some sports and makes anything else look very unnatural! Note that this set is 120hz and that has noting to do with the Trumotion in the setup. It is confusing the was LG has it in the settings. 120hz is on by default and turning the 120 setting is selecting Trumotion.
Sound on the LG is good. I have no problems with it and is probably better than most. Granted, none of these tvs is made to impress with their sound systems.
So, if you're a gamer and not too particular (AKA picky) you will most definitely be happy with this set, especially for the money. This is especially true if you want easy access to Netflix w/o having to be a techy.
If not a gamer and you are particular, I'd say get another tv and set it up with an HTPC which will give you more internet viewing options. I'm happy with my purchase but I'd probably do the latter if I could do it again.
Hope this has helped someone.

Great TV!
I finally decided to come into the 21st century and purchase a flat screen! After weeks of researching features, size, and price, I chose this LG. It seemaed to have the best fit for me. I am extremely happy with this TV. The picture is vivid, the sound quality good, and setup was very easy. When I compare it to the Samsungs that other family members own, I cannot see the difference. I have long been a fan of LG products and this has reinforced that opinion.
Whether watching Blu-ray, HDTV, or standard cable the picture quality is very good.
A valuable lesson that I have learned.....always check with Amazon BEFORE making a purchase elsewhere. They had the absolute best deal of anyone out there!

Great TV, Decent Price, Nice Features
I purchased this TV with the idea it may retire to my bedroom after a while with a larger replacement - thus I didn't go top of the line (250hz LED,etc). Though I was pleasantly surprised with the clean appearance, ease of set up, great picture, excellent sound (for a TV), and the broadband/netcast features are nice.
I have a Blu-ray player that allows me to stream netflix, though not having to turn on that device and be able to stream netflix directly to this TV is a nice feature. Via use of USB (or I can only assume, NAS Storage device via ethernet) you can watch downloaded TV shows/Movies with ease. (playback of avi, mpeg, mkv, etc) As well as view photos and play music.
120hz is a little surreal at times but that's true with any TV - though it looks great on sports - I've also noticed on some HD channels that are known to knock out ever other frame (ABC...) the 120hz at LOW setting seems to smooth back the playback a little. Though I generally have it turned off. the 24p Cinema mode, when coupled with a blu-ray player gives a nice smooth playback. Dynamic contrast and "Eye Care" settings are good for watching movies in the dark without having scenes that go so bright they blind you.
I was surprised by the quality of the audio coming from the built in speakers. The 'invisible speaker' stuff this TV touts is actually nice, there are no visible speakers on the unit, yet it sounds full. Granted heavy bass does drop out - but this is one of the first TV's I've been comfortable listening to the audio from directly. (Minus the old school Monster projector TVs with the 10 speakers below the screen). Though I have this set up via optical cable to my 5.1 Surround - the week or 2 I didn't have that set up I wasn't cringing at bad sound.
The price doesn't drop as low as the 42LH40 or LH30 price - but with the added features of the broadband and netcast, I don't regret spending the extra cash. I got the TV in late January for $799 shipped.
This is my first fullsized LCD display - I can't say its 'The Best' but for the price, features, and overall quality - I feel this product in the range of similar projects holds true - which is why I gave it a 5 Star rating.

Impressed!
It came down to LG or Samsung. I am very glad I chose this TV because the LG is sleeker than the Samsung. Furthermore this set being a 42" was more affordable with more features. PLUS the Netflix feature which I gotta say has been Huge! You simply go on your computer and set up your Instant Que and then after a simple synch up on Netflix your TV then has your Instant Que right there. I have not used the Yahoo widgets much nor the Youtube much. I also cannot wait to hook up my laptop to this thing. All in all I love this TV and the picture is superb.

Spotty picture
Periodically the picture goes dark although the sound remains on. This lasts from a few seconds to several minutes. Nothing seems to help except turning tv off then back on. Customer service said to reset the tv but this did not help. We are waiting on them to make good their promise to send out a technician.

First new TV, first broken TV ever received
I got my first new television that I ever bought... my wife recieved the TV, the delivery people were great and the unit turned on with my wife not noticing anything wrong.
I got home, hooked the television up and began the setup process, as soon as I got a picture up and not a snow screen I immediately noticed a line of dead pixels from top all the way down to the bottom, a bit left of center screen.
I called Amazon immediately and they have sent me another TV and it should be here in a few days.
Customer service was great, (thanks Ryan).
I have had the television connected and have noticed that the television locks up or freezes on cable, blue ray, and worst of all on netflix. I watched netflix from my computer with no hitch, but the television locked up or froze (I had to physically turn off and turn back on and restart the movie) This happened about 6 times in a ten minute period and I decided to let the kids watch their movie on the computer instead.
I truely think that this television was dropped hard, at some point after leaving the factory and has severly jarred the internal components. I am confident that this television will be a 5 star TV once I get my new one. My brother has this same television and has had none of these issues.
Great things...
Lables on the different inputs.
When they work... The widgets will be great!
Networking and playing my music through the television to my surround sound is awesome.
Power light turning from off to on goes through a night-rider like light effect, which is really neat to watch.
picture is amazing, dead pixel line not-with-standing
ease of adjusting the picture
not great things, read the first few lines, msotly I think I got a dropped TV which has effected almost everything negative I have to say about this television, and once I get the new one I will most likely change this to a 5 star review.

Purchased New TV
I purchased this TV from Amazon with free shipping. It arrived on a timely basis and the delivery men unpacked it and plugged it in; however they were unaware of how to scan for channels.
After reading the manual I figured out how to scan for channels and began watching TV with an over the air antenna. Right away I began having problems. After a few minutes the TV would shut off and then try to turn back on. Usually the picture would freeze or there would be no picture at all. This happened on all channels and also when playing a DVD.
I called the local repair shop and they installed a new video board, power board, and keypad all under warrenty and without charge. Now the TV appears to work OK.
Even though the TV did not work properly at first, LG made the appropriate repairs on a timely basis and overall I am satisfied with this purchase.

Awesome LG TV
I love this TV- We've only had it a week and the picture and features are awesome. Setup was easy, my electronically challenged husband can even work the remote. Getting Netflix directly to the TV is very cool. Get HD hookup though- It is almost 3 dimensional. The sound is pretty good too. No gripes about anything on this beauty. I'm glad I picked this one. Buying from Amazon was very easy and delivery was prompt- they called to set up a time to deliver and made sure it had power before they left. Amazon was cheaper than anywhere else and the price for shipping was great too (free). If you're going to mount it check out Amazon's deals on mounts. We got a discontinued one for about $75 that is wonderful. Thanks Amazon and LG!

LG's Web site: LG 42LH50 is discontinued & "Not Sold" any more. Really?
I just bought this TV, so it clearly is not true that it isn't being sold. I really like it, so I would assume the reason for being discontinued is that there is a newer model, not that this one is defective in any way. Either way, it's strange, though that may be why the price is so good. Really like the TV, picture is crisp, sound is good.

Eventhough picture quality is not perfect, TV looks great, it is very thin and affordable

LG 42LH50 TV
This is a great TV. Only downside is the confusion related to hooking it up in order to get Neflix. We contacted LG and got rather confusing info from them so we're still working on it.
Buying from Amazon was easy and the delivery was quick and professional. We hooked it up with no problems except as noted above.

I did not know a TV could look this good
I replaced a 42" plasma which I had thought was great, but when I hooked this up and watched Avatar bluray I had never seen such a high quality picture. Tonight we watched the Wizard of Oz since tomorrow we are going to Wicked and we wanted our daughter to watch the movie first and even there the quality difference was amazing. You could see the graininess of the film and the incredibly fake props. Even with that, the picture quality was still incredible and I was able to easily see details I had never before seen such as the scarecrow's support wire when he was against the post, and that the Professors trailer said "Balloon Exhibitionist".
I cannot rave enough about this TV. The only problem, which is with the entire line, is that the beautiful black exterior gathers dust quite effectively. The screen does not, but the black exterior quickly looks gray with dust.

Very pleased with this purchase
This was purchased for the den, which is where my internet router sits. This made it possible to directly connect the TV to the internet for high-quality Netflix streaming, which works beautifully and reliably. The TV does not support a wireless connection.
Besides Netflix, the TV is used to watch HD/SD cable programs and for playing Xbox 360 games.
The TV has a beautiful picture, once you adjust the settings to suit you. There are built-in wizards to help you adjust the picture quality. I suggest turning off the "TruMotion" option, because it tends to make film look strange during panning shots, as if the show were on video rather than on film.
The sound is ok, better than average but with very little bass or depth, at least in our den environment.
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT SOUND OPTIONS: There are no RCA audio-out jacks. The only audio-out option is the digital optical output port. I wasn't aware of this - I never thought to check, as all other TV's I've had provide the RCA ports. Because of this limitation, I wasn't able to use the external speakers that I had planned to use. However, I was able to buy an inexpensive (< $200) Philips home theater system that did the job just fine.
Overall, I'm extremely happy with this TV and would highly recommend it.

Great Home Investment
This TV has really turned up the entertainment level of our home! We replaced an aging 27-inch analog television with this for "over-the-air" television broadcasts. A few months ago, we kicked our monthly Dish Network subscription to the curb by purchasing Dish Network's DTVPal DVR. We currently connect the DVR to the LG 42LH50 using an HDMI cable, but we can also connect with the multitude of other options listed in the product description.
The remote for the LG has functions that can not be duplicated on most Universal Remotes, and the LG remote is not a Universal Remote for controlling other devices. That's a shame. Now I *must* keep at least two (2) remotes out at all times: One for the device I am using, and one to access the LG Netcast features. There seems to be no other way to activate the Netcast features other than using the supplied remote. If the LG remote gets lost or damaged, we are S.O.L.
Pros:
Intelligent Sensor Mode LG's Smart Energy Saving Technology (when enabled) will reduce the screen brightness if you watch it in a dark room or increase the brightness if you watch it during the day with the sunlight shining in. Great feature if you can use it (see "cons" below).
Several aspect ratios to pick from, from Auto, 4:3, 16:9, Cinema 1-6, etc. Taylor any video to fit the way you want or leave it on the Auto setting.
Never have to watch some stale old program on TV again with shows from your Netflix account's Instant queue, when it works (see "cons" below).
Plug in external USB drive into side port to watch movies you've burned (only tested with VOB, WMV and mpeg). As soon as drive is inserted, a menu pops up on screen asking if you want to view photos, listen to music or play movies. Very easy!
Input Source selection is very nice! Press the Input selector and input sources that are currently powered on and available show up first. Other input selections are still there, but they are grayed out - usually (see "cons" below).
Vudu "Pay Per View" and free movie trailers are a nice touch.
Cons:
Intelligent Sensor Mode: LG's Smart Energy Saving Technology interferes with DTVPal DVR remote (may affect others). Disable Energy Saving Technology in LG menu fixed this problem.
Netflix is not always able to retrieve titles from our Instant Queue through our network connection. Sometimes, we can "auto reset" the Network's IP settings, sometimes we can surf out to You Tube, then go back to Netflix - and it works! I don't know what the problem is. Anyone have an idea?
Netflix, part 2: Netflix movies have to be loaded into your "Instant" queue first, or you will see no movies available. To do this, you must go to Netflix on your PC and add movies to your Instant queue.
You Tube: There isn't an organized method of locating information on You Tube or adding something to a queue (that I've found). You are limited to what someone has named their videos.
LG Inputs: We have our DVD player connected on HDMI2. If we turn on the LG 42LH50 *after* having watched a show on the DVD player and the DVD player is off, the video input selector seems to be buried 10 items deep. I would find it more convenient if the video input would default to the first available when input sources are not available.
Yahoo! Widgets: These appear to be useless as far as I can tell. The Yahoo! Videos are only for previews (there are only about 10 to scroll through), Yahoo! Weather just shows sunshine or a rain cloud along with the temperature (I can tell this by walking outside), etc. I'd like to replace the Yahoo! Widgets with a radar loop from [...]! That would actually be useful!
Vudu: Vudu accounts have to be secured with your credit card and are $5 - $30, depending on popularity and quality (SD, HD, HDx). I can't link my Vudu account to a credit card because there is no way to stop the baby sitter from racking up a $150 bill while my wife and I go to dinner.
Closed Captions: The LG tuner supports closed captions, but the captions option seems to be grayed out (unavailable) unless the input is set to the TV source. Our Dish Network DVR on HDMI1 can be set to display captions, but the LG will not display captions from it. There seems to be no way to display captions for any of the Netcast features either.
In summary: I like this TV because of all the Internet capabilities it brings to the table that other televisions do not offer. As the Devil's Advocate, I will admit that if I had a Media PC plugged into the back of this device, I probably would not need these features. A Media PC would be a more complete solution, but this is good for what it does.
I hope that helps you make a decision!

Great features, good picture, HORRIBLE sound
I won't bore you by parroting the other good reviews, other than just to say I mostly agree with them.
My 2 cents:
- Netflix woks great with a hardwired connection all the way to your cable/DSL modem. I originally had the TV on wireless (plugged into bridged wireless router) and while it worked, the connection would occasionally drop, as wireless connections do, which meant the stream would break and have to rebuffer. Fortunately it never meant I couldn't get HD, if available. I dropped a network cable from the router that is connected to my cable modem and it was smooth sailing from then on.
- Never used Vudu since it's over priced, but the trailers are cool
- YouTube is... YouTube. It's "neat" and you aren't subjected to the IQ-reducing comments.
- The picture is as good as it should be, no better, no worse. The anti-reflective, semi-gloss screen IS actually kind of impressive: not as sharp as a good plasma, but not as soft as a matte LCD. Nice work, LG.
- LOTS of controls for OCD home theater peeps, especially for the price. On a related note, I am not a fan of the 60/120/240Hz hype. I don't care for the, uh, weird, artificially overly smoothed video game-like motion. Sure, I don't like motion blur and tearing, but that was only ever an issue on early and/or cheap displays. It's 99% artificial sweetener so they can charge more. Period.
OK, now the catch: THE SOUND SUCKS!
It just is plain horrid. LG should be ashamed and issue an apology.
Not everyone wants to use surround sound to watch TiVo'd Daily Shows or have an immersive aural experience when their kid just wants to watch Shawn the Sheep. If I spend hundreds of dollars on a TV, I should be able to just turn it on and watch it without wondering why it sounds worse than my 10 year old 13 in. tube.
Seriously, the volume goes to something like 80 or 100 (?) and if a show with low volume (the aforementioned Daily Show is notorious for this), you try turning it up and it's like nothing really improves after maybe 40. I kid you not it's really, REALLY bad.
I came so close to returning this unit just because the sound is that bad. It managed to JUST be livable enough though.

Great TV
I resisted ditching my 32 inch tube Panasonic for a flat screen because I didn't see the price/performance benefit. That is until I saw this TV on display at the local electronics store. The picture was amazing and price was very affordable. I broke down and bought the LG. I've had it for 7 months now and my wife, 2 teenage boys and I are very happy. It took awhile to get use to the very realistic picture. Everything looked like a live performance! But over time and with the easy adjustment available (AV modes) for the picture we have been able to adjust the picture properly for the content being viewed. The sound is a bit disappointing as even at the highest level it is still not very loud. Decent but not what you would expect. I don't have a home theater hook up so we depend on the TV speakers for sound. Everything else exceeded expectations. The external hookups are plentiful. Even though the TV does not have a wireless connection we connected the Ethernet to a wireless hub and that works just fine. We love streaming Netflix right to the TV! We have a WII connected directly and that works perfectly also. LG as an extremely inexpensive extended warranty that gave us a total of 4 years of coverage. I couldn't match that anywhere. No regrets from my family in finally taking the LCD plunge with this TV.
